OP. i face same problem anytime i go to barber shop.

buying my personal clipper didnt help.

so, what i did was simple,

scratch the surface and it would turn to a wound. then apply salt to it.

its no easy but thats what i do everytime i sense it coming back.

anytime I barb, they surely comeback and i apply same.

Good morning good people of Nairaland. I hope you all are doing great and keeping safe during this period of corona virus endemic..

Pls I need help!! My younger brother has been battling with a certain rash on his head since 2013. We keep on treating and after sometimes the rashes disappear and appear later.

He has used all kinds of creams and was even on pills to treat the rashes yet the rashes refuse to go. Pls is there anybody that knows the name of the rashes and how it can be treated because my younger brother is gradually losing his self-esteem because he can hardly go out without putting on cap to cover the area that is affected by the rashes.

Suggestions, criticism and possible solutions to the problem are welcomed. Doctors in the house your input will be highly appreciated. Attached below is a picture showing the true state of the affected areas

Pls mods move this to FP for wider coverage
The cap is source of reinfection...do away with...after treatment proscribed here you need hair cream rich in sulfur and eucalyptus oil to keep bacteria infections down at all time...it will go.

INGROWN HAIR
An ingrown hair occurs when you cut a hair and it grows back inside your skin. It can result from shaving, tweezing or waxing. While not serious, ingrown hairs can be irritating and can cause you embarrassment.

What causes an ingrown hair?
There are 2 causes of ingrown hair. Cutting a hair can force it back into its follicle, or dead skin clogging the follicle can cause the hair to grow under the skin or re-enter its follicle or one nearby.

The hair then grows inward instead of pushing through the surface of your skin.

Your body detects the ingrown hair as something foreign, as it would a splinter, and triggers an immune response that causes the area to become swollen, red and itchy. It can become inflamed so that it is painful and look like a pimple with pus.

Common places for ingrown hairs are:

men’s chins, cheeks and necks
women’s legs, pubic areas and armpits
buttocks
Illustration an ingrown hair vs normal hair.
An ingrown hair occurs when the hair grows back inside your skin, causing the area to become red, swollen and itchy.
You’re more likely to get ingrown hairs if you have very curly or coarse hair.

Cutting curly or coarse hair can lead to a type of ingrown hair called pseudofolliculitis or ‘razor bumps’ after shaving, tweezing or waxing hair in the area.

Ingrown hair treatment
Ingrown hairs often improve without treatment. It may help to stop shaving, tweezing or waxing until the condition improves.

Washing the area with a washcloth or soft toothbrush using a circular motion for several minutes can help release the hairs. You can also try inserting a sterile needle under the hair loop and pulling the ingrown end to the surface.

Talk to your doctor if you have a lot of ingrown hairs. There are medicines that can remove dead skin cells, reduce inflammation and treat infection.

Ingrown hair prevention
Try using creams that dissolve hair or laser hair removal, which are less likely to cause ingrown hairs than shaving, tweezing or waxing.

You might also prevent ingrown hairs by:

washing your skin with warm water and a mild facial cleanser
exfoliating before you shave
using a single blade or electric razor
shaving in the direction of the hairs
using shaving creams to cleanse the area

Squeeze bitter leaf and rub it on the boil. When next you shave , use bitter leaf water as after shave for 3 day to avoid this.

I have the solution,I base in Lagos, that's fungi infection and it's very stubborn .This fungi hide under the skin making it difficult for some cream to get to it, unless some hard anti-fungi medics. If you are in Lagos kindly indicate.
Thanks.

I had it in the past too. I went to a teaching hospital to see a dermatologist but they gave me a long list of tests to go and do. Luckily, a good friend of mine linked me to one AB BUMPS clinic. They tried their best at least by reducing it to a reasonable level. Since, little of it still appeared from time to time, I started applying NEO MEDROL AND NEO PRESOL. These drugs have made the stuff to disappear. But you have to continue rubbing these drugs or else, it will reappear. But, firstly visit AB BUMPS.

He should stop visiting those very cheap saloon in the hoods,

He should apply warm water in a clean towel to the affected area some minutes before going to get a hair cut and he should do same after having a hair cut.

He should apply Neo-medrol to the affected morning and evening for about 4 days after having a hair cut. Aloe vera works too.

He should get his own clipper .

I've been using my own clipper since 2005...the good thing is that you don't even need to Sterilize your own clipper...it is way safer and cheaper in the long run..why people still risk their health with public clipper is what I will never understand.
