gregyboy: Gregyboy, I submitted before that the Oghene would have been situated in the region of old Benin empire that call their God Oghene. There is a Benin researcher that traces Uhe to the area of etsako in the mountainous area of Edo north. |

samuk: They yoruba people are trying to replace owo connections with ife so as to have a form of supiority over edo Benin had connections with various yorubas such as, ekiti, ondo and even oyo Benin had connections with oyo on several bases While protecting its territory against oyo expansion into ondo which was settled through war and benin always came out victorious Thier aim is if they can hold on to the myth benin - ife connection then every benin glory wilk be indirectly accorded to them sine they believe Oduduwa established benin monarchy I have told a yoruba guy on this thread to prove benin ife connection he has since ran away unable to prove it |

gregyboy: Gregyboy, I submitted before that the Oghene would have been situated in the region of old Benin empire that call their God Oghene. There is a Benin researcher that traces Uhe to the area of etsako in the mountainous area of Edo north. The Benin call Lagos eko, every Yoruba adopted that name for Lagos. If Benin had called Ife or Ooni, Oghene, the Yorubas would have known about it not waiting for later day revisionist to link Oghene to Ife. No modern day historian told us that the Yorubas call us Ado, we heard the name directly from them for centuries. No latter day historian told us the Igbos call us Idu, we heard it directly from them for centuries. |

gregyboy: That was also the area the Benin researcher and author traced and linked to Uhe. Just also leant from Silversniper's submission that there was another war recorded in that area against the people that were called I think Salgo. Benin did alot in that area in it's earlier history that's worth exploring. Ask yourself, why will a Benin chief instigate the Attah of Igala against Oba Esigie to cause the Ida war, if there were not some sort of relationship and connection Between Benin and the people of Igala at that time. It's the middle belt part of Benin history, the Yorubas are trying to replace with Ife. |

gregyboy: Have seen this extract from Ryder also pointed to the North rather than Ife. A Reconsideration of the Ife-Benin Relationship1 A. F. C. Ryder DOI: https://doi.org/10.1017/S0021853700005314 Published online by Cambridge University Press: 22 January 2009 Extract The traditions now current among the Edo of Nigeria trace the origin of the Benin dynasty and the associated cire-perdue technique of brass-casting to Ife. Some of the information recorded by European visitors to Benin since the fifteenth century is not easily reconcilable with this tradition. Material evidence, especially that contained in the Benin bronzes, and the results of archaeological investigation have also raised difficulties. It is suggested that many conflicts in the evidence could be resolved by adopting a hypothesis which would ascribe a more northerly origin to the dynasty. The Nupe-Igala area straddling the confluence of the Niger and Benue emerges as the key area in such a reconstruction of Benin dynastic affiliations. The Yoruba States would seem to be related to the same general complex, but the chronology and direction of dynastic movements still remain obscure, and the seemingly fixed points of reference become far less certain when placed in context. |

MetaPhysical: Dapper derived his information on Benin mostly from a Dutchman named Samuel Blomaart (or Blomert) and also from another Dutchman, Michiel Evertsen, both of whom actually went to Benin. But even if one decides to ignore Dapper, Andreas Joshua Ulsheimer's account of Benin from decades before the publication of Dapper's book (Andreas Ulsheimer, or Ultzheimer, visited Benin directly; he described some aspects of Benin at the end of the 16th century, and his account was published a few years later in 1602) describes the king of Benin as a "powerful king" who "conducts war all the time". Once again, this perspective is basically in accordance with everything else from everyone else. I don't see why this is really in doubt or controversial. Dapper's book isn't the first to portray Benin as powerful, there's nothing unique about Dapper's portrayal of Benin as powerful, and his account basically lines up with both earlier and later independent sources, so that aspect of his account of Benin isn't really seen as controversial or exceptional by academics. |

Sarah20A:Benin doesn't have relationship with Oduduwa, they had relationships with the great grandson of Oduduwa that's Oranmiyan that later became the first Oba of Benin..not Ogiso of igodomigodo now. |

TAO11: You are still continuing with this your self deceit lol. Which historical evidence points to Oyo gaining military might over Benin? Only oral accounts said it but even the oral accounts never narrates about any confrontation between Oyo or Benin or describe any scenario where Benin paid tributes to Oyo. On the other hand there are multiple oral accounts supported by historical evidence that Benin conquered and ruled over Yoruba for hundreds of years. Details are given of how Benin conquered Yoruba Kingdoms and villages.. You should promote the present achievement of the Yorubas. If you keep engaging yourself in history that never favoured you, you will always be a loser. |

samuk: Actually Benin soldiers fought alongside with the Yorubas during the Kiriji wars. Benin was protecting its interests in Eastern Yoruba and supplied the Ekiti parapo with weapons, logistics and soldiers. |

gregyboy:Oba Oranmiyan(Yoruba) stole your glory from the hands of Ogiso. He's son Oba Eweka still Yoruba are the real binis. Ogiso kings were bannished by Oba Oranmiyan in his surjorn in Benin. He replaced it with Oba a yoruba kingship title. Oduduwa never came from Ife to be king in Igodomigodo...Oranmiyan did, and he was the first Oba. All other Obas are Omonoba translated to son of the Obas. |

Mraphel: Please keep quiet. Oranmiyan never set foot in Benin proper. He couldn’t defeat the people to enter Benin. He could only reach the outskirts of Benin and there he stayed till he left. |

Sarah20A:Grandson and Great grandson means the same thing in Yoruba language But the grandson of Oduduwa was Obalufon (Past Oni of Ife) It was Obalufon that sent his son Oranmiyan to conquered Igodomigodo to be their king. 1 Like

Mraphel: I don’t have to start teaching you what is common knowledge. It is well known fact that Benin Kingdom subjugated almost all of Yorubaland. Even your Alafin have been documented as saying that his predecessors and other Yoruba Kingdoms were paying tribute to the powerful Oba of Benin. |
Re: Benin Kingdom In Edo State Remained Part Of The Expansive Yoruba - Ooni Of Ife by Mraphel: 2:17pm On Apr 10, 2020 |
davidnazee:Benin can never conquer Ife kingdom or Oyo kingdom, they only installed king in Yoruba region that doesn't have Kings. Oba is never igodomigodo title it is a Yoruba title..Ogimien ( Ogiso family will tell u that) |

gregyboy: You are right, the Awujale of Ijebu is a reluctant participant in their current Yoruba experiment. Every now and then, you keep hearing the Awujale making statements not in tandem with one Yoruba project. It's either you hear him referred to the Ooni as a descendant of a shrine keeper or you hear him referring to Yoruba as a brand name to unite people of different tribes who didn't share one common heritage. I wonder where their story of queen of sheba fits into their common Oduduwa heritage history. |
