Told you guys so. We just DONOT have the capacity to lockdown Nigeria. We certainly donot have the capacity to test, too poor (60 percent living on less than a dollar at the best of times) to self isolate for any reasonable time frame and finally goverment doesn't have the administrative structures to either palliate responsibly or secure the country against anti-social activity.

In a nutshell we are in serious problem. I cannot see how Nigeria will beat this pandemic before a vaccine comes out next year.

The problem is that lockdown is not working because people still gather around. When you put a lock down in place you need healthy officials to go round and ensure compliance and educate most people who think the disease Covid 19 is only for the rich. You don't just tell people to stay home without a plan. For example the markets still run in a tight crowded environment. I only saw something online about new market locations on some streets during the lockdown but nobody enforced it.
Secondly the lock down only stopped people from going to work but did not stop them from playing street football and drinking in crowded beer spots all night.
Thirdly Nigeria is not like western countries that you make announcements on TV and expect people to take you seriously. Nigerians are superstitious in nature and many believe there is something spiritual about this situation so they prefer self medication than going to the government for help. Another issue is the fear of stigmatization and non availability of testing centers in local areas. For example if someone is having a cough and fever and tdecide to call NCDC, they will ask you if you have been in contact with someone who has been confirmed or your travel history and if the answer is no, then you are referred to your GP. If you have to go to Yaba center yourself for testing then you could infect more people on your way if you are positive already especially if you don't have a car.
Another problem is that WHO and scientists are not really sure about the way the virus spreads , some scientists are now working on a theory that this disease can remain in the air long enough for people to inhale it and get infected. Even if you wear mask your eyes are still exposed. This is not proven yet but in the light of the uncertainty I beg everyone to stay at home if possible. It takes little to get infected and a lot to get well and this is avoidable. Thanks

D lockdown wasnt supposed to cure ppl of d disease, it was supposed to help ppl already exposed tons virus to self isolate and to reduce spreading to others while contact tracing is ongoing. By showing symptoms dey can be easily identified and tested. But d only problem with dat is d number of ppl dey would have com in contact with within those period.

The total number of cases is not a true reflection of the situation in Nigeria. NCDC have barely tested 6000 with under 400 +. A simple projection will give a true case if we improve testing to 60,000

The ONLY purpose of the lockdown overseas is to slow the rate of NEW infections so that the healthcare system is not overwhelmed. It is a time buying strategy, that's all.

What you then do with the time you gain will determine just how much an individual country will suffer. We have so called locked down for 2 weeks and in that time tested a total of no more than 5, 6000.

That to me is a total waste of GDP for paltry returns. It will ultimately mean we will be in this pandemic regime for months to come, long after most other countries have recovered.

Once again our lethargic goverment is in the spot. What is their strategy to beat this virus and restart the economy. Siddon look is not a strategy. The longer we stay so called lockdown the less likely will compliance be guaranteed and the vicious cycle of pandemic and economics will guarantee the bleeding of the Nigerian state akin to the insurgency in the north east.

FG Should av distributes testing kits to each of the local government of the federation and announce total lockdown for next 3 weeks,that will be the best strategy to map out those that av have the disease even at asymptomatic stage.

Most of u don't think of the future nemesis if the cases here is out of control.we don't av up to 500 ventilators in this country,our primary health care even federal medical center is nothing to write home about u are here shouting they should lift the lockdown.

Honestly, instead of nagging we should be grateful. Its been about 4 weeks we are still below 400 with 70 discharged. In this same period countries have recorded thousands of death. we are still fairly among the least affected states in Africa. Given our population its fair.
My only fear is if the figures are real or close to reality.

2.lift the lockdown.. Mandate everyone to always wear mask and gloves and failure to do so will be 6 weeks in medical center.. Let people chose their poison.. Hunger or coronavirus....

Your number 2 is irresponsible government. You can't let people choose their poison because 1 persons decision may affect hundred others who didn't choose that decision.

The lockdown down is necessary. We should be calling on the government to do more instead of saying no to lockdown
