Idris Deby just warned Nigeria and Niger that he will soon be withdrawing his troops from captured territories.

Very Exciting read from Thisday newspaper.

Kingsley Nwezeh in Abuja

Republic of Chad, a member of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) against the terrorist groups, Boko Haram and Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP), has issued Nigeria and Niger Republic an April 22 ultimatum to reoccupy territories Chadian troops seized from Boko Haram because it will withdraw its forces from those locations by that date. President of Chad Idris Deby said he had warned the two countries that his forces would move out of the bases seized from the jihadists by April 22, regardless of whether their armed forces moved in or not.

Speaking in an interview, Derby said his troops deployed to fight jihadists in the Lake Chad region and the Sahel will no longer take part in military operations outside national borders.

“Our troops have died for Lake Chad and the Sahel. From today, no Chadian soldiers will take part in a military mission outside Chad,” he told national TV in Arabic. His remarks were broadcast in French on Friday.

The Chadian president’s position depicted widening cracks in the coalition, which he said was the outcome of poor commitment to the war against insurgency by other coalition partners.

Derby had led his troops in a counterattack that decimated about 1,000 Boko Haram fighters, prompting the leader of the terror group, Abubakar Shakau, to appeal to his fighters not to be deterred by the onslaught against them by the Chadian troops. Chadian armed forces said they had wound up the operation against Boko Haram in the Lake Chad region, saying 52 soldiers have been lost and a thousand jihadists killed.

The operation was launched after 98 Chadian soldiers were killed in a Boko Haram raid on a base at Bohoma in the lake’s marshlands on March 23, the biggest one-day military loss in the country’s history.

The four countries bordering the lake – Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and Cameroon – and Benin Republic had in 2015 set up the military coalition, MNJTF, to fight Boko Haram. But Chad, which has some of the strongest armed forces in the Sahel, showed frustration with the MNJTF following the Bohoma losses.

“Chad is alone in shouldering all the burden of the war against Boko Haram,” Idris publicly complained last weekend.

In announcing the end of the offensive on Thursday, the army said its troops had expelled jihadists from Chadian soil and had advanced deep into Niger and Nigeria. Derby said he had warned those countries that his forces would move out of bases seized there from the jihadists by April 22, whether their armed forces moved in or not.

Army spokesman, Colonel Azem Bermendoa Agouna, told the AFP news agency that 52 troops died during the operation, which was launched on March 31.

“A thousand terrorists have been killed, 50 motorised canoes have been destroyed,” Agouna said, referring to a large boat also called a pirogue.

Agouna said the operation, which was launched after nearly 100 soldiers were killed in a Boko Haram attack last month, ended on Wednesday after the armed fighters were forced out of Chad.

It was the first official snapshot of the outcome of Operation Bohoma Anger, launched after about 98 soldiers were killed on March 23 in the deadliest-ever attack by Boko Haram on the country’s military forces. The armed group had mounted a seven-hour assault on a Chadian army base at Bohoma.

The Chadian expedition and declarations of Derby triggered a flurry of activities in Nigerian military circles. The Defence Headquarters said on Tuesday that Chad would not take the glory of Nigeria’s gallantry and contributions to the war against insurgency. Coordinator of the Directorate of Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche, said Nigeria was not slowing the pace of the war, as claimed by Derby.

Enenche stated, “To say that we are slowing down the war is not true at all. By our mandate, you can go in pursuit of insurgents and criminals for 25 kilometres without consultation.

“For His Excellency (President Derby) to say that is not right. They are playing their part of the game. It’s not true.”

Enenche said Nigeria fought in Sierra Leone and other countries where it left a legacy of restoration of democratic rule and “somebody wants to take glory with 30 men. When you are in a situation like this and it is coming to an end, some people will be trying to take the glory. It is a distraction for a military to say I’m taking the glory. We have done so much there.”

Army Spokesman Col Sagir Musa had issued a statement on Friday debunking claims that foreign troops were occupying Nigerian territory.

Musa stated, “The Nigerian Army’s attention has been drawn to the statement now circulating on social media claiming the security and defence forces of Chad are deeply stationed in the islands of Niger and Nigeria, waiting to handover to the respective armies of these friendly nations. Nigerian Army wishes to state that there is no Chadian or any other foreign country’s troops on Nigerian side of the Lake Chad or in any other part of the Nigerian territory. As a responsible organisation, the Nigerian Army finds it necessary to clear the wrong impression or misinformation for history and posterity as well as to avoid spreading falsehood and mischievous publications.”

The army said regarding the Chadian onslaught on Boko Haram, “The operation was especially welcomed and supported by the Nigerian Army because it would deny the insurgent’s rear and logistics bases in Chad from where they often plan and launched attacks into Nigeria. It is hoped that the Chadian forces will sustain operations on their side of the border to permanently deny Boko Haram criminals of rear bases from where they can launch operations into Nigeria.”

The statement further declared, “For the avoidance of doubt, the Chadian Operation Bohoma Wrath took place only in Chadian territory and not on Nigerian territory. The Chadian security and defence forces did not cross into Nigerian territory during the operation and, thus, there are no Chadian troops holding any Nigerian territory.

“The Nigerian military is fully committed and in total support of the continued cooperation between Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria to finally and speedily decimate Boko Haram/ISWAP criminals and put final end to terrorism in the region.”

The statement said, “Members of the public are requested to disregard the claim and misleading information that the Chadian security and defence forces are deeply stationed in the islands of Nigeria waiting to handover.”
It also said the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai, had relocated to the North-east.

I thought those weapons are in Chadian custody

I don't think you understand.

Because you have no sense of practicality, prudence and pragmatism. As well as strategic deployment.

How big is the land mass of the NE❓

How many individual units of insurgents will be operating across the entire theatre that present a current and continous threat in multiple locations at any one time.❓❓

At any one point in time how many actual engagements with the Boko enemy are ongoing latent and active by the NA❓❓❓

I really don't know, but l think SamuelAnyanwu can give us some insight.

But l would project across there are at least 50 Fluid Hot spots across the NE at any one point.

Then you buy how many tanks to deal with that huge spread of the NE , you are using a table spoon to dig a trench, it's ineffective.

Countries who are very serious about making sustainable impact procure assets in 100's of units, not 10's.

It's like saying you have to move 1000 people by road to Abuja from Lagos. Then you buy a $400k Rolls Royce Culinan it's the best SUV fastest most comfortable and luxurious but it doesn't meet the required need.

On the other hand you could get 60/70 4x4 Ford Expedition or Chevy Suburbans Big sized 8/9 seater SUV's not more than 8/9 years old. That does it all almost in one go.

With $152 million, in the same way you could procure over 200 BTR80's,100+ T72/64, 100+ BMP3's as well as 200 multiple light armoured vehicles e.g.Gaz Tigre. And you will still have change.

That means you can have complete strategic spread across the entire theatre of the NE that changes entirely the dynamics of the War and creates the capacity to completely wipe out Boko.

There was a highly decorated T72 tank commander Colonel in the NA, who was killed without his tank. Because they were rotating the tank assets across to different engagements in the NE, because they didn't have enough.

It's not EFFECTIVE because you haven't bought enough assets to make a sustainable long term change and difference. Furthermore, we are not engaging in a sophisticated enemy in Tank to Tank warfare, like Algeria or Egypt.

Yes, in Nigeria. In Syria, the Syrian Arab Army and the RuAF are tearing terrorists and their supporters apart. While in Nigeria we keep on winning through press release.

Well, buying all this military equipments might not change anything if the soldiers on the front line do not change their attitude. I don't want to see boko haram or iswap posing with those tanks or light tanks.

The Chadians strike boko haram and ISWAP, they start fleeing, in fact shekarau had to start begging grin but we do see videos upon videos from the air force yet, we still have lots of IDP's in Maiduguri, I will believe Nigeria is wining the war, when people start going back to borno north and south.

Well, we're about to start all over again. Let's watch out for what will happen in the North east in one to two month. I don't want to hear cries about air force not showing up o grin

Boko Haram: Chadian gov’t dismisses recent onslaught by President Déby

Aidoghie Paulinus, Abuja

The Embassy of the Republic of Chad to Nigeria has dismissed recent reports which portrayed President Idriss Déby as leading the country’s army on an onslaught against Boko Haram.

The reports which also showed the capturing of Boko Haram armoury by the Chadian military, according to the embassy, were misleading videos and images dating back to 2015.

In a statement made available to Daily Sun in Abuja, the embassy noted that the report, with dubious origins, had been circulated on the web and in some online or print media designed to wrongly attribute to the Chadian president, completely distorted remarks, taken out of its context and alleging inaction or non-participation of the Nigerian Army in the fight against Boko Haram.

“The Embassy of Chad strongly rejects and denounces this regrettable misinformation which only aims at deteriorating the excellent relations that exist between their Excellencies, President Idriss Déby Itno and his brother and counterpart, President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the cooperation and exemplary and dynamic interaction established between defence and security forces of both sister and neighbouring countries bound by history, geography, culture and blood,” the Chadian Government said.

While commending the spirit of mutual understanding, regular consultations and active solidarity between both countries, the Chadian Embassy further said such height never reached in the past, characterised the relations the two sister countries and the two leaders enjoyed.

“This new dynamic which also translates in a more and more efficient efforts of the defence and security forces of both countries, deserves to be consolidated and appreciated at its just value.

“It is important for the embassy to point out the imperative necessity to figure out and understand the deep qualitative development that has occurred in all areas of bilateral cooperation. Nigeria is the number one economic partner of Chad and security challenges, as well as common sustainable development require further rapprochement between the two nations,” the Chadian Government also said.

The Chadian Government, however, counted on the Nigerian media to adequately explain the stakes related to the common destiny of both countries towards sub-regional and continental integration.

It added that the cooperation established in the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and the common fight carried out together within the Multinational Joint Task Force were perfect illustrations of the excellent bilateral ties between both countries.

“Nothing can distract both countries and people from their goal which is to restore peace, security and stability in the whole sub-region for a sustainable development mutually profitable to both Nigerian and Chadian people,” the government further said.

What a surprise. Not. There really are so many enemies of Nigeria. smh

You open your wild stinky mouth calling the thread a dormant one, have you ever contributed anything on the thread, yet you have the effrontery to ask about personnel issue.

In 201/13 there was a shortage of combatants and the British army started recruiting directly from some common wealth countries.

In particular Gambia and Ghana in considerable numbers. They wanted to come to Nigeria but the political vibes were not encouraging.

Quite a few Nigerian have while at university applied for reserve officer training and from there gone full time regular. I met the son of a very senior officer who was on the programme.

Be warned it's not a game you will find yourself deployed in very hostile environment in Iraq, Afghanistan and now more recently the joint EU operation this year in the West African Sahara.

But applying directly from Nigeria when you are not resident in the UK simply not viable.

It's also a more expedient way to go through citizenship application with s higher favourable response.

Beyond that l can't say anymore or know anymore.

It is not correct, the frontal armour of a t72 will not be penetrated by a RPG7, If it has reactive armour then its simply a NO NO.

As you probably know the silhouette of the T72 is very low, the effective range of a rpg7 is about 300 metres its not precision weaponry so trying to hit a moving tank in the Sahel with all the dust kicked up obscuring your vision is not that easy. Every tank has weak point trying to get isn't that easy.

Now getting hit by ATGM is another matter.
i never meant using an rpg from a distance , i meant in the heat of battle, hostiles getting entangled and all and then the hit, if youve.noticed most of the ambushes NA has faced has all been flanking ambushes

Nice. Wouldn't mind fighting for Britain for a while if it assures me citizenship status.

You can pass your comments without using foul language on our leaders. If someone uses similar language against the current what would you say? Suprised that everyone is keeping quiet to this
