Whyem15: You are right and wrong. The drone you are talking about is multi role too. It can carry either armaments or surveillance equipment. So, when the Boko issue is gone, we can use the drones to keep an eye on our borders, or loan it to the police to track bandits. And in case of invasion, these drones can do a good job of either bombing the invading army to bits or performing a reconnaissance mission. The airforce doesn't have much aircraft. But can you ask them what happened to the Jaguar aircraft we bought a few decades ago and why they were allowed to rot. And why maintaining platforms here is incredibly difficult. However, they are buying the JF-17 and that is multi-role enough. 3 Likes |

GabrielYulaw: Quick questions, can the wing loong fire air to air missiles? Is it capable of taking on interceptors and other aircrafts some of our neighbours posses? What is the probability of it surviving the air defense systems of our potential enemies? What is the max payload it can carry, how many bombs will it be able to drop before returning to base? If we have excess money and already has aircrafts performing other roles, why not? It is even advisable getting it. Note: transferring armed drones to the NPF when they are only using the helicopters they have for VIP transport is an irresponsible thing to do When it's not as if we want to be assasinating criminals sef. Giving the customs and immigration is a better idea. |

Whyem15: I don't really know if the Wing Loong can fire AAMs, but there are other drones that do. Defeating aircraft does not always mean shooting them down in the air. You can crater their runway so they can't take off or simply bomb them on the flight line if they are parked out in the open. I stand to be corrected, but I don't think our neighbors have a modern air defense system in place. I could attach wings to my house and fly it to Ghana or Cameroon and they won't know till I land. If you want to see modern air defense, look to Egypt, Algeria and South Africa. As for the NPF using helicopters for VIP transport, that happens but not all the time. But then what do you expect 2 Likes 1 Share |

GabrielYulaw: How can someone say a drone is a multi-role platform for an air asset ? In what form and how is it multi-role ! Do you really know what the term “multi-role” means ; some people can make you laugh and crazy at the same time 6 Likes 1 Share |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by rka2: 5:55pm On Apr 18, 2020 |
bidexiii: I tire o!. Multi-role in the proper sense means it can carry out CAP, CAS, Strike, Interdiction, Intercept, surveillance missions (air to air and air to ground missions) when asked to do so when on a sortie. It can change roles while on a mission. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

bidexiii: The drone we are talking about is not a true multirole aircraft. It's also not a one-trick pony as it can perform both reconnaissance and attack missions. Lots of people are crazy and deluded on this platform. Thankfully I'm not among them. 2 Likes 1 Share |

GabrielYulaw: People should not get stuck up on definitions they are fluid and are determined by the use you put the particular asset too., If something can be modified then it can be used for whatever you decide too use it for, that makes it multi use and therefore multi role. With regard to Sepecat Jaguar , probably the best set of air craft the NAF have ever acquired in recent times all 18. However, our military has always from inception been cursed with political wranglings, tribalism and religious discrimination, the British started it as a means to prevent the south from agitating for independence. But back to recent times, the suspicion of coup and counter coup created deep mistrust as well as undue paranoia with the senior officers. The NAF as well as the Navy required a certain degree of academic excellence and knowledge for progression. As a consequence the ability to flood the NAF and or the Navy with your own kinsmen in the past was limited. There was a coup planned against Babangida in which NAF officers was heavily involved. They were in their positions by merit. Babangida could not control or manipulate the NAF. So he essentially rendered it impotent and the first victims were the Jaguars which they feared so much. A group of technicians came from India years back to do some assessment in civilian times and were shocked at how the aircraft were in such good condition. The all had very flight hours comparative to their ages. I expected the NAF to revive those airframes (for small money) which are still better than those Chinese rebadged Mig 21's we bought for stupid money IMO. Thankfully we are leaving those dark days behind. Unfortunately have not been able to deal with corruption completely. It is the same historic mentality that has plagued the NPF, it seems the only weapon they have are assault rifles. Police forces across the world are equipped with MRAPS, HMG , Grenade launchers and multiple heavy to light weapons. But the fear that the NPF would therefore be equpped to stop the NA from carrying out coups or limiting the NA influence has seen that tent continue. Because in all honesty the Mobile police force should be equipped with HMG, LAV, RPG7, Multiple light weapons Sniper rifles, and should be able to contend with BOKO. The police many a time are outgunned by criminals and why have their weapons not been upgraded to reflect the current threat levels bot with bandits and terrorists. That would free up the NA to concentrate on its core task. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

komekn: Bro, hope you know the Nigerian Police is hopelessly corrupt and incompetent. Not a week passes by without their killing innocents and getting away with it. And your solution is to give them heavy arms? No, first they need to be massively retrained and the crazies among them weeded out. Even then, I don't think they should have heavy weaponry. But replacing their AK with something more modern would be nice. 3 Likes |

Why this wastage of money? JF-17 is metallic architecture and it has only single axis Fly by wire(It would be good by late 90s era) that is why China(Manufacturer) is not even using this and selling this trash to few desperate countries.. Future is in composite Fibers. Look at their neighbor India they took time and developed their LCA Tejas from scratch, it took them time but they were determined to develop Composite materials for different section and all Axis Fly By Wire. I would say instead of buying and relying this copy trash from China it would be far far better to have few used MIG 29 etc from Russia. GabrielYulaw: 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Completely Agree with you,, This Chinese copy 90s era JF-17 is wastage of money, Even Chinese are not using this. It would be more feasible and logical to make an arrangement with India to upgrade and renovate these already existing inventory of Jaguars also there could be opportunity to get India`s BVR ASTRA missile with upgrade as well . This is utter wastage of funds by planners or may be there was some pressure from China? komekn: 2 Likes |
