These are mountains that are beyond the sky - Himalayas is now visible from Northern India. I don't think you understand how tall these mountains are - even if you were to see the cloud and the snow cap.

These are mountains that literally enter the sky, That is why they are first and 2nd tallest mountain in Africa. They are nothing of course to Everest. But the moment you see an ice-cap or snow-cap in the middle of tropics in the equator - don't think these are small hills. They are some largest free standing mountains anywhere in the planet. The Himalayas are great mountains that stretch countries....but not really as free standing as say Mt Kilimanjaro.

The main reason Mt Kilimanjaro is mostly seen from Nairobi is the due to the geographical topography of the southern parts of Nairobi. Kilimanjaro which lies to the south of Nairobi has no mountain or any hill blocking it and also remember that you also said that Mt Everest can't be seen 140km away and that's the main reason I posted Mt Kenya's views from Nairobi which is equivalent to your estimation. You have to consider that Mt Everest is 8,000m going up compared to Mt Kenya and Mt Kilimanjaro which are 5,000m each so your point was complete guess work.

Nairobi to Nyeri -150kms - Nyeri to Mt Kenya peak is 50km - and that nearest distance to the peak. Mt Kenya itself extend over I think 5 counties. It huge.
