Nobody is more f.ucked than Nigeria. Please. Don't project. Oil is now zero. That is about 60-80B dollars from Oil exports about to go down the drain. I am not even sure how you're keeping sane grin

Kenya tea prices have soften for 3yrs because of over-production - so the total earnings really haven't changed - because quantities being sold makes up for the reduction of prices. Horticulture - people have to eat - only the floriculture is having issues.

obaaderemi:
[s]Every country is affected including Nigeria due to the fall in oil price. But Kenya's agriculture and tourism and tea exports were already fairing poorly before covid19. Unlike Nigeria's booming agricultural industry. That's why you are more fvcked than everyone else here.

Precisely. IMF think kenya will grow by 1.5%, gov 2.5%, and IMF i think 2%. I think the consensus is kenya economy will grow by anything 2-3% - but of course nobody can really predict.

As for Nigeria - we are looking at contraction of -10% - IMF may have to revise their figures with oil prices blow out.

Shma:

Kenya is not broke obaboon, we're all trying to shield our economy from depreciating, but that's something inevitable as far as corona virus is concern,
The question should be, at what extend should our economy depreciate?
Our projected economy rise was at 6.2 according to central bank, but that was cut down to 3.4% owing to the pandemic that has affected our economy.
This of course had been signified by reduced demand by Kenya’s main trading partners, disruptions of supply chains and domestic production across the globe.
I don't know the case of Nigeria but I bet is far worse than kenya grin
You're having huge exportation on oil sector( which is one of the big four sectors that carries your economy) the tourist services, I mean your own countrymen from diaspora who contributes to huge sector of your GDP are nowhere to operate grin.. I guess naija is far worse , as a matter of fact, you're broke.

The most unadulterated nonsense of the day. Yes, it true that Nigeria and Ghana were doing well - with an indigenous palm oil industry - and Kenya had to literally start from scratch - and but it's not true that Kenya copied West Africa in education or skyscrapers.

After independence - Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania decided they wanted nothing to do with colonial borders and formed a united federation - EAC - with Kiswahili as the language.

So Kenya began with Uganda and Tanzania in the most advanced union in Africa - EAC - and education system, economy, currency, name it were all one - and the same. However, when Tanzania chose to go communism as Kenya remained Capitalists - the union was increasingly torn apart and unravelled in lates 70s after Uganda and Tanzania went to war.

Kenya then began in the 1980s - as a unilateral country - started to build it's own systems - again. The education system we had was changed to copy the American & Canada system - 8-4-4 as we dumped the British system (that still in use in all British colonies in Africa save for Kenya).

I pity you. You mean East Africa started a union that lasted just about ten years. And then had to form the union again after more than 20 years because they saw what West Africa was able to do with ECOWAS. grin

You dropped British system of education and adopted the American system only for you to run to West Africa to hire a Ghanaian to run your oldest and best university.

With 29 years of research under his belt, Prof
Stephen Kiama takes over from a past Vice-
Chancellor at UoN named Peter Mbithi who
was accused of numerous counts of
mismanagement.
And you and your ungrateful lazy little Indian brothers still have the temerity to insult Ghanaians here. grin

Every country in the world can stop the virus
If they take the necessary measures
You guys were mocking us on social media not long ago about coronavirus have you forgotten
And that pastor of yours said how we are ungodly that is why the virus spreading fast in Kenya
You're always playing victims when things turn against you and ready to mock others when they are in trouble
I don't know about other people mocking but the words of one idiot aren't the stand of the whole nation. The world could have prevented the spread of the virus when it was first detected in Wuhan, then there were few cases and it was easy to isolate them until it settled down. But since that did not happen it will be difficult to contain it since the incubation period differs from person to person, maybe put 2 month total lockdown will only show who where the infected and with the lack of cure, 7% of them will perish. If it was easy to stop the virus some states in the world have both the means and the will to do so but they have failed so it easier said than done.
P.S. If the president had mocked you i would have apologized on behalf of the nation but since it was just an idiot well them on behalf of Tanzania, he/she can go to hell.

You are not a good student of world affairs nor of how the global economy works!

Oil as we speak has rebounded to over 20$ from your phantom'zero'.
There are very powerful nations and cartels behind the oil industry. That's why they can't allow it to remain down for a long time. They would rather turn the whole world upside down than watch 'big oil' remain down. This works in Nigeria's favour. As at December 2019 oil sold at $69 a barrel, the problem only began in March this year. So Nigeria isn't in a position as bad as it looked. Besides we've got other viable industries such as agriculture, trade, etc.

If worse comes to worst we can take care of ourselves and by then, it would be clear that the oil palaver was a blessing in disguise. We have plans all along to diversify our economy and this year's problems would be the needed push. grin

Meanwhile, look at Kenya with your troubled agriculture. The best you can have from tea export is just about $1bn. Now, it's far less!
Your tourism is gone. So what are you left with?

Finally, you will be shocked and heartbroken at the rate at which oil will go up after all this is over. If I were in charge of Kenya, I would stock up on cheap oil now instead of laughing.

EAC was more advanced -when ECOWAS was not even an idea - and if it not for Tanzania - EAC would be miles ahead. Kiama is a Kenyan. Please don't write nonsense. You West Africans are so desperate you look for the most TENOUS link one can find to allege we have copied or relied on you. Why would we rely on the most backwater region of Africa - that like DRC cannot find it's bottom with two hands?

What is there to copy from Ghana or Nigeria. Just tell us? You have so much oil and yet you're the poverty capital. Ghana has so much gold and yet it remain dirty poor.

We can copy South African countries and Northern Africa in many things - but WEST AFRICA - please nigga get hold of yourself.

Lagos GDP alone is bigger than Kenya's economy.
That's why Kenyans are starving in spite of the cooked data.
Nigeria on the other hand has Africa's largest economy built entirely by its people. The richest African is a Nigerian, Dangote and the second richest African is also a Nigerian, Adenuga.

Indians own Kenya from business to crime and everything. The guy below is Kenya's richest man. He is Indian and his name is Bhimji Shah. grin
