The Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu, has said that the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 is running against time because Nigerians want to return to normal life.

He also explained that Lagos State has more testing capacity than Kano State because the first COVID-19 outbreak happened in Africa’s largest commercial city.

Ihekweazu spoke during a virtual press briefing by the World Economic Forum/World Health Organisation on Thursday.

He said: “We will be transferring some of our knowledge from states to states. We are running against time because people are pushing to live normal life.

“At the same time, we are confronted with the escalation phase of the figures. So how to balance this will be very a difficult decision to be made in the coming week.

“We wished we had the laboratories and ventilators we need, but we simply don’t, and the supply chain of these things are fragmented at the moment, so we will have to make do with what is available,” he added

only about 4% of those infected meet their demise, the NCDC should do its job by liasing with various arms of government, the public need to see results from the commission, not press releases.

I doubt you have doctors that can successfully intubate a patient with a respirator and besides You don't need ventilators because the offer no benefits to the patient ..

Wait O! Is there any coordination here?

Politecnic Ilaro just exhibited portable ventilators begging for Mass production.

NDA Abuja also exhibited prototype ventilators ready for Mass production.

Innoson and another company in the West are waiting for green light.

Is the right people's hand talking to the left?

Abeg make una call o.

Ventilators are not CURES for the virus. They only serve to help by the patient time while the patient's own immune system fights back. So, I would not throw ventilators out completely. If it gives even a few a chance to make it, why deny them that chance?

You said billions that people contributed all over the are not to be used as palliatives but to use fight covid-19 we said OK. The cases haven't reach 1k yet and they've already ran out of ventilators.
Don't tell me they've already spent it all o cos that would be a big lie... I just hope that they create a vaccine very soon cos all these politicians would rather loot the money and let thousands die than to fight the covid 19.
Millions are already starving.

How much are you paying private laboratories who are interested in donating their facilities as collection centre/testing centres in the network? And how much are you paying yourselves?

Let's start from there..

You had 3 months to prepare for COVID

You also had the experience of Ebola 5 years + ago

Still, no vision to think ahead to ensure adequate health technologies are available

Ventilators has been proven ineffective. They need less of it at moment. They should focus more on PPE for the care givers and testing kit. Their treatment method has been working relatively fine.

early testing before manifestation of the symptoms is the best approach. That is what help Isreal and co. Our testing rate is extremely too low.

Ventilators have not been proven ineffective since the use of ventilators were never as a CURE for the viral infection but to help buy patients time while the doctors help their body fight the virus.
