Whenever I see pictures of this Proforce ARA-II MRAP, am so happy that such hardware is coming from Naija.
Can’t wait till they go further in adding RWS and Radio/GPS navigation system and other accessories too.

Most of them are. Besides we bought only 10 units.

The main problem is their main 30mm cannons no longer work.

I heard NA didnt buy 30mm rounds for the btr and the air force refused to give them, hence they stopped using it.

They did use the FN P90 and F2000 during YarAdua days.....then decided they were too finicky and didn't stop adequately.

So they went for IMI's Tavor and Galil, then Negev LMG finally.

IMI Jericho is their sidearm of choice.

If I'm correct, they operate all the personal weapons IMI makes.

The FN F2000 is still in use,and there have been pics of some DSS agents armed with the FN P90 during the Jonathan Era. The only fire arm i hardly see them use since the Obasanjo days is the Styre Aug assault rifle. But you're right about DSS and IWI made fire arms (Tavor CTAR-21s, Galil Ace, Negev LMG, and Jericho pistols), although i hardly see agents use the Galil Ace assault rifles compared to the Tavor.

An observation though: I don't know why NPF MOPOL squadrons, particularly those in hot zones, haven't adopted the Negev LMG like the DSS. These squadrons are meant to tackle insurgencies, so i think armed with only Type 56-2 assault rifles isn't fair at all.

Now that is a surprise. Never thought any of the services used the AUG.

F2000 I doubt they still use. I know they withdrew them from Frontline service and were using them for stationary guard duty at HQ, which I don't even see anymore.

Boys that go on COIN and raid duty dey carry Galil well. Some HQ guards use the short barrel version.

Have seen pics from Beegs blog and even on this thread of some squads using the FN MiniMi.
I do agree that arming them with Type 56 in their mandated theatre(s) is wickedness. At least original AK47 or AK103 na!

Will the "original Ak47 or AK103" dole out the effective suppressive fire they need?

Nigerian Army T-72 (Right)

Vickers MBT ( Center)

Scorpion Light Tank ( Left)

Nigerian army Vickers MBT firing at the range in Bauchi.

Army Vickers have an effective firing range of 5000 meters, that's 5KM.

That little L7 105 gun can accurately reach 5000m!? Are you sure?

Agreed it's the same rate of fire for all AK family rifles.

However the higher manufacturing quality of the "original weapon" reduces the likelihood of stoppage/ jamming.

Right?

Don't mind him, he doesn't know what he is saying....that gun will struggle with 1500m to get an accurate shot, most especially with the old school fire control system

Ours were pimped out 7 yrs back with true IR not just low light camera and improves FCS.
The L7 gun however is the same -IIRC max accurate range is JUST 1000m.

For dedicated AT role max range is 1000m. HEAP rounds, High Explosive Anti Personnel could probably get to 5000m but with much degraded accuracy good only for area effect

The Nigerian army armoured corp commander knows better.

NIGERIANS SURVIVING WITHOUT A COMMITTED GOVERNMENT

Covid-19: Why Nigerians Must Not Worry But Stay Alive

By Ebiowei Lawal

When I read the news that crude oil price in the international market has dropped to about $11 or $12 per barrel, I was reminded about an interview I watched on the NTA Network Service. That night, the person featured on the interview program was an American born Economist (I have forgotten his name). He visited Nigeria to validate the speculation that Nigeria was actually the Giant of Africa.

In course of the interview, the interviewer asked "you have spent two weeks in Nigeria carrying out your research about the strength of her economy, what are your findings?" He replied "well, I wouldn't say I enjoyed my stay really but I discovered that Nigeria is the strongest economy in the world."

He went on to explain that "I have not said she is the most prosperous economy of the world, mind you. I say so because Nigeria happens to be the largest economy that can survive with the absence of government support except in the area of ensuring security, law and order.

"In America for example, the Wall Street would crash if there is failure of public power supply for two hours. In London the transportation system would fail and there would be huge economic loss if there is power failure for two hours. There would be chaos and breakdown of law and order if government fails to supply water and gas to the people for one week.

"But in Nigeria, the government fails to provide health facility, the people don't complain. Private individuals provide it at high cost, they live with it without complains. The government fails to provide quality education, private individuals provide it at high cost, they embrace it and live with it without complains.

"The government fails to provide electricity for local industries to thrive but when private individuals want to start a business, they use their personal funds to purchase a power generating set and buy fuel at very high cost to run their business then still feel comfortable paying multiple tax to the same government.

"When the government fails to provide public transportation for the free movement of goods and services, in Nigeria a private individual would somehow source for funds to buy a car and convert it to a cab to ensure the free flow of goods and services and at the end pay tax to that same government and feel cool about it.

"So in a nut shell, Nigeria's economy is surviving almost without the support of her government. But take away 50 per cent support of government from the so called great economies of America, England, Germany, France, China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, South Africa and Japan, their economies would crumble within weeks."

So my take home from this interview is that when crude oil was selling at $65 per barrel before Covid-19 came, Nigerians didn't feel the effect. Rather it is a selected few that keeps looting the money. Now that crude oil is selling at $11 or $12 per barrel, we still do not feel the impact. The only problem of the average Nigerian is the fact that he/she has been deprived the freedom to go out to look for daily bread.

At the end, I believe we shall overcome.

Let me say something here, Nigerians need to be very, very, very worried that oil price is selling between $11 and $12 per barrel.

Before I left Nigeria, I worked in the Oil & Gas services sector. A drastic drop in crude oil price would exert a lot of pressure on ordinary Nigerians, let's not kid ourselves.

The highest salary earners as a group work in Nigeria's crude oil sector. When that group get paid at the end of the month, they spend on average higher than any other group of workers in Nigeria. Where do they spend that money?

Then you have oil services providers in Nigeria, they are in their thousands. If you look at Nipex for example, the number of oil servicing companies on that platform are more than 40,000.

NLNG Train 7, I read more than 3,000 vendors were verified.

If Crude continues to sell below $15, Companies would retrench workers, thousands of them.

If workers lose their jobs, they can no longer spend, they can no longer afford to pay rent, who suffers at the end of the day?

Low oil price is very bad for Nigerian citizens, as well as the government.

I'm talking about the energy industry in general, the potential effects of the Train 7 project, as a comparison for scale of losses if things continue to nose dive with the price of crude.

Once countries open up, demand for oil will increase and so will the price.
