[quote author=Officialgarri post=89165968]The part I do not understand according to Wikipedia is, his father's name is ''Oladipo" but from sierra leone. How come? They don't want Yorubas to claim him in peace? Hmmmmm. funny u |

Why can't we wish the young man happy birthday in peace, must we always fight about tribe? |

Officialgarri: It's amazing how tribalism has derailed our focus as Nigerian youths. The politicians know that we are too busy arguing over stupid things than to fight for our future. Even after the suffering most Nigerians are passing through during covid19, they know they'll still manipulate us make us fight over and vote for APC and PDP. |

Saaog: I can't argue unnecessarily with you biko, it is obvious you are saying what you don't know. Adebayor dad also migrated, right? He's not from Nigeria according to him, do you know better than him. Don't be stu.pi.d biko. BTW, he does not give a fu..c.k about you, stop this famzing, it makes you look stu.pi.d. Because Dangote is a hausa man, hausa people should start famzing or because late Professor Chike Obi is an Igbo man, Igbo people should start famzing, right? Abeg go read or research about him if you don't know... |

Jaqenhghar: OLADIPO actually identifies as a Nigerian. If you check his Instagram page - you will see pictures of him celebrating Nigerian Independence Day, Nigerian culture and stuff like that. |

FuckAllTheMODs: That’s actually not true. His mum is actually both Yoruba and Igbo. Even his Dad is a Yoruba man that was raised in Sierra Leone. His aunty and I once attended the same church in the US. His Mum is partly Yoruba and she gave all her children Yoruba names. OLADIPO is actually a twin - his sister’s name is Victoria. |

Crispels:Every year the Americans and a few other countries celebrate the chinese new year with a lot of chinese themed events. I guess that makes them Chinese too. |

Jaqenhghar: You are actually funny. Do you know OLADIPO in 2014 applied to play for Nigeria’s Basketball team and he was told to hold on then? In fact, he later represented Nigeria in a basketball competition a couple of years ago? (I attached a video of his interview below) Mind you, most Americans(who are not Asians) don’t celebrate Chinese New Year. OLADIPO’s AUNTY and I once attended the same church in Baltimore. They are all Nigerians in every area - including dressing, culture and food. I still have pictures of his mum, his AUNTY and his twin sister in Baltimore last year. I’m a Nigerian in the US and the fact that my cousins or siblings were born in Georgia and Canada does not make them less Nigerian than anybody else. OLADIPO is the same as Davido and Banky W - who were also born here in the US and spent a good part of their lives here. Holding dual citizenship does not make much cultural differences. Below is a video of OLADIPO and Chineye Ogwumike - who are both Nigerian-Americans making reference to their Nigerian roots. OLADIPO represented Nigeria in this competition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WMU4m_XMh4 1 Like |

Crispels:No need to get all upset over this nah. I eat Chinese food doesnt make me chinese. I dress in a suit doesnt make me European. He will talk of his cultural background because that is all he knew growing up but I believe actions speak louder. In 2k14 he applied to play when he wasnt that big. Recently he was seen working out at the team American camp and will likely join them in their next outing. The Nneka too represents the US. Giving shoutouts and talking about their background but when it was time to bring glory to one country we all know who they choose. |
Re: Victor Oladipo Celebrates His 28th Birthday Today by Crispels(m): 12:03am On May 05, 2020 |
Jaqenhghar: You see, you are not sure of what you are talking about. This is not Nneka but Chineye. And who told you OLADIPO has not brought glory to Nigeria? When he represented the country during a competition less than three years ago and he won the MVP during the tournament as a Nigerian representative? He may end up playing for US national team later in his career but that does not make him less Nigerian. So because Hakeem Olajuwon played for the US national team now means he is no longer a bonafide Nigerian? What makes OLADIPO less Nigerian than you? He was born in the US(so is Davido, Banky W and many other famous Nigerians). He plays in the NBA? So is the current captain of the Nigerian national basketball team. Has he ever denied being a Nigerian? The answer is no. There are several videos of him introducing himself as a Nigerian -American and he has even represented the country before. So, I do not understand how you are making it seem as if he has never associated with Nigeria. By your logic, the fact that I live in the US now means I am no longer a Nigerian or if I give birth to my kids in a few years and they decide to play in the NBA like OLADIPO, that means they are also not Nigerians even though they have Nigerian blood flowing in their vein. There are reasons people adopt identities like NIGERIAN -AMERICAN. It is to show their ancestry, heritage and nationality. Unlike oyinbos in America who wear Nigerian cultural wears but do not claim Nigerian ancestry, OLADIPO and co do both. 3 Likes |
