F-35B SVTOL
F-35C carrier type...
But I get your point though..
But what about the Issue involving US, Russia and Turkey concerning the F-35 and The Russkies S-400 air defense system offered to Turkey

That's what I'm saying. It won't be possible for now. The F-35 is still a very new plane, but give it 10 years, Turkey should be able to purchase it.

Also remember after the US, Turkey has the largest military in NATO.

Nigerian Defence Industry

Locally built seagoing barges that would be used to replenish Nigerian navy ships at sea.

we don't and honestly presently it'll be a waste if the navy acquires it maintaining an aircraft will gulp billions of naira annually

We don't have a reasonable warship just minesweepers fast attack craft patrol cutters etc nns aradu WAS the only thing I could say was a warship considering our navy size but its obsolete though its being repaired to take the role of combat trainin and patrol

Don't worry about modern warships. Any ship can be armed within hours. The most important thing is having the ships that are ocean going. And maybe 3 well equipped fast attack crafts.

Nigeria has missile armed fast attack crafts and we are skilled in anti-sub warfare. That ia what matters for now.

Big ships need big maintenance, which in peace time raises the question of necessity. Two or three warships are just ok. And we have them.

Thank you for your reply. You see, many people confuse naval warfare with land warfare.

In naval warfare, every boat is a potential weapon. Iranian small boats harass US warships in the Persian Gulf. In fact, hundred small boats can potentially destroy a big navy, if strategically armed and deployed.

For Nigeria, all ships of length 30m and above can be missile armed if necessary. The most important thing is having sufficient ocean-going ships and enough weapons in storage.

Nigeria currently does not have missile armed vessels its hence why the NN is looking to buy a new frigate

You need to do some more research. ... So, If an enemy ship is approaching Nigeria now, you mean we have no vessel to attack it... the very fact that you think we have not one missile boat makes me want to ignore you.

No service chief will dare command a navy that cannot attack.

Smh. Yes, Hundreds of small boats can, if strategically armed and deployed, destroy a big navy.

See bro, a ship is just a platform. It is the weapons onboard that fights. Haven't you heard of missile boats. Small missile boats can maneouvre like hell. Iranian boats are harassing US ships in the Persian gulf.

So, only frigates can carry missiles abi. Do you know how many years it takes to build a frigate. You mean, we would remain without missile capability until a frigate arrives. Smh.

NNS Thunder and Okpabana, when in US service, had missiles and CIWS. They were stripped down before being gifted to Nigeria.

What makes you think the Nigerian Navy cannot fit missiles on those ships? What of Centenary and Unity, they can all carry missiles at short notice. The navy has skilled radar and missile engineers to do the job within hours.

According to wiki. NNS Thunder (USCGC Chase WHEC-718) and NNS Okpabana (USCGC Gallatin WHEC-721 in US navy ) had only an Otobreda 76 mm and a Phalanx CIWS as armement , no missiles .

The P18N OPV ,NNS Centenary (F91), and NNS unity (F92) could be upgraded like the bengladesh version and eqquipped with C-802A anti-ship missiles but it will take months and only done in china , its not only putting missiles , you need to install all an optronic and radar tracking , fire control systems , live fire tests ect ....

Nah, you are incorrect. Well, fitting missiles could take even years in peacetime. But if under aggression and all equipment in storage, it would be done in hours.

I think the problem of argument is "frame of reference". Ordinarily, it would take decades to invent half of what the Biafrans invented within 3years.

They refined crude, produced rockets and Ogbunigwe, build armoured vehicles, had a currency, etc. In just 3years. Haha.

So, most of the argument on this thread is factually one of context and is really not worth it.

Smh. It would take "months" to fit missiles on a ship, wow. And can "only be done" in China, Hmm. Na wao.

During war, nations build warships in months, let alone fitting missiles.

Just to mount launchers and install radar, will take months. Smh. Modern navy missiles are 'fire and forget' and don't need much luxury.

Sorry Wiki is not a reliable source. NNS Thunder or one sister ships was upgraded with Harpoon missiles. They were long range patrol cutters of a Super Power and were sufficiently armed.
