NNS Thunder and Okpabana, when in US service, had missiles and CIWS. They were stripped down before being gifted to Nigeria.

What makes you think the Nigerian Navy cannot fit missiles on those ships? What of Centenary and Unity, they can all carry missiles at short notice. The navy has skilled radar and missile engineers to do the job within hours.

Well, Nigeria has plans to purchase at least 1 submarine. It is part of the recently approved 1.3 billion dollars maritime security plan by the National Assembly.

Some aspects of the plan have began, we are building Seaward Defence Boat 3, they Hydrographic Ship from France, Helicopters from Italy etc etc

However I don't think we would go ahead with the submarine for now, COVID-19, oil price fall, not a priority.

We cannot build submarines in Nigeria as we don't have the expertise to do that, we are just growing.

we aren't ready for submarines in the Navy..

Yes Im fully aware that NNS Thunder was fitted with missiles and Im also aware that these vessels can be refitted/upgraded with missiles. Im simply stating that it doesn't take a couple of hours and also the missiles in storage are otomat mk1 missiles which would need to be replaced.

Ships are not aircrafts. For ships, the missiles come packaged in quadruple launchers, ready to be fitted to the ships.

Fire control and weapons integration are not very necessary. Target coordinates can be acquired and inputed into the missile systems and missiles fired. Modetn missiles are Fire & Forget. They need no mid-course guidance to find and hit targets.

The problem is people commenting on issues they know nothing about.

So yes, missile launchers can be fitted on ships in hours. And armed snd ready. Ships are not aircrafts.

(1) I spoke of fitting missiles in adverse conditions, not peacetime.
(2) Nigerian navy has other missiles you do not know of. The ones you know of have been destroyed.

I know them, they are based in Warri. We have so many of them but we need them to up their game, build large vessels 30 - 60 meters patrol vessels at least.
