Dada is a magical hair that grows on the head of people with spiritual powers and supernaturals. You can't cut the hair (Dada )unless you make some sacrifices or take the child to religious center like churches. If you don't want the Dada spirit to disturb your household, you need to attach key or cross on the hair, that will save you. ............................... This is why I'm convinced that Africans will be backward for many years to come because they prefer to believe in MYTHs, FALLACIES, TALES. Anyway, for those that want to learn ,Dada is a hair type that is peculiar to Africans or black people and it is just the TANGLING of hair strands together. Its caused by the nature of our hair loving to curl together, and that is why Africans hair are called CURLY/COILY hair. Just like white's people have different types of hair, we also possess several types of hair which is based on genetic. Type 4a hair 4b 4c 4d In Nigeria, 4c is the most common type of hair. All African hair types can turn to Dada if left uncombed. The kinkier your hair is, the more its ability to tangle. That is why some children are born with Dada (tangled hair). Our African hair just love to romance one another meanwhile White people's hair stand one by one, and they have what we call type 1 hair, type 2 hair and type 3 hair. Their hair is straight and it falls down, meanwhile, ours is curly and grows up. This is why people often think that African hair cannot grow long or that white peoples hair is usually longer than black peoples hair. My present hair is longer than many white peoples hair, but if you see it, you will think it is short because of the nature of our African hair, CURLY/COILY and KINKY. Its is caused by genes, just like our skin is black, some are darker, some are lighter than others. Same goes with the hair Some hair are curlier than others. Dada is the easiest way for Africans to grow a longer hair because our hair hates to be overly manipulated, combed as it breaks very easily and roll up together. So when you leave it alone, it will grow longer easily. Dread is beautiful if you take very good care of it, opposite is the case when you don't. ................. It is with shame that Africans still don't know about themselves in this 21st century and prefer to believe in stupid myths. Some people still think Twins are supernatural beings and they need to dance for them in the market, and beg people for money. As far as hair is concerned, I give credit to the black Americans, for researching about African hair (what a shame to Africans), and now we know everything about the African hair. And the fact that Africans can grow hair as long as their butt, waist etc. 15 Likes 1 Share |

It is really spiritual and cultural especially to the Jamaicans. They don't cut out any part of their body from birth. That believe it is God plan for you to remain whole until you die. Main reason of Bob Marley's death after he got infected with cancer if the toe when he was poisoned by by the American government.. Do some research.... 6 Likes |

Dreadlocks are the natural result of just leaving hair to grow without combing or washing. There is nothing magical about it. Wait why am I even replying to this old thread? 5 Likes 1 Share |

dread is a natural gift from God,just that this part of the country we tend to barb the hair from small,I bet many here wud have dada if it wasn't cut at an early age... there's nothing spiritual about it we only see it through our religious mindset here as bn fetish or evil. Jamaican have it natural and it doesn't mean anything 3 Likes 1 Share |

Some people are born dark, chocolate or fair (skin colour ) so also some people's hair appear short, long or dreadlocks..we are all creations of God..if you have any of these look for a better way of caring for it and you will appear pretty fine and God will bless you for taking care of his creation.. @OP there's no spiritual, superstitious or physical attachment to dreadlocks apart from what you are seeing.. If you want to serve God he will not reject you because you have/don't have dreadlocks, that you are rich or poor, working or jobless, sick or healthy has nothing to do with your hair Just work hard and serve God and you will be fine 4 Likes |

In Igbo land, it is believed that children born dada are of spiritual origin — the dark side — and are possessed because their mothers visited shrines and made pacts with deities to conceive them. And I am dada. I should be furious. I should claw my way into my mother’s grave just to ask her why; but if I ever find the stomach to do the excavation, it would only be to embrace her and tell her how much I miss her. Why? Because dada is just a type of hair that is naturally and untidily matted. The word ‘dada’ also refers to children born with that kind of hair and, though it’s of Yoruba origin, the sentiments around it are more dominant in Igbo land. The hair is similar to dreadlocks and is tough to comb. That’s probably why the bearers are sometimes called dreads — but not in Igbo land. The Igbo people call children with dada ‘ezenwa’, meaning ‘child king’. One could argue that this is because the toughness of the hair denotes resilience, which a king should exude, or that it is because the hair most times sits over the head like a crown. The reason behind the name, however, resides in the so-called ‘spiritual origin’, which apparently gives a dada immeasurable wealth and success etc; and a mother making a pact with a deity means her dada child is under that god’s protection and has been destined for great things that would favour the schemes of that god. Hence, the Igbo people observe many traditional rules and beliefs when dealing with a dada. The most important of them is the ritual performed before clearing a dada’s hair. The hair must be cut by a chief priest (this means a jujuist in Igbo Land), but since the advent of Christianity in Nigeria, most parents would rather employ the prayers of Catholic priests. The ceremony also entails calling friends and family over and treating them to a nice feast after the shaving. Dadas whose hair is cut without the proper ceremony are believed to die within three days after the shaving. Even so, there have been cases of those who survived after being shaved without the ritual. My parents were not very superstitious, hence did not observe the tradition, but I survived, although my dada had to be cut three times for normal hair to start growing. Prior to the shaving, touching a dada’s hair, whether to feel its roughness, to scold the wearer by pulling at it, or to comb it, can be tempting considering that it looks unusual; but that would only make the child sick — unless of course you are the mother. Why, because only the mother can touch the hair without making the dada sick. That you are the father does not count. However, if you could not resist touching the hair or you mistakenly touched it, you must give the child money or tie a cowry to his hair to stop him from becoming sick. That is why most dadas carry a good number of cowries on their hair, the number representing the many or few times their hair was touched by someone other than their mothers. The cowries, I think, rank among the reasons dadas do not comb their hair; that is, along with the difficulty that comes with combing something so tangled up. But most Igbo folks believe the hair is left unkempt because dadas are considered to be the Samsons of our time. Combing or cutting their hair without the proper ritual would only alter their grand destinies. Dadas are sometimes also called ‘ogbange’, meaning the reincarnated. Most Igbo communities believe they are the reincarnations of some great men and women, jujuists, and even deities. These rules and beliefs about dadas make them live in isolation through their childhood as other children point fingers at them and avoid them, whispering, “He’s possessed. Ogbange…” While this can be damaging to a child’s psychology, it can also give the child some sense of security, since the stigmatisation is as a result of fear and not disdain. But it should be noted that fear can stir violence. Thus, that sense of security becomes an illusion. These are just children born with hair most communities in Nigeria aren't comfortable with. Do they deserve such a damaging childhood? 13 Likes 2 Shares

MistarT:the words u write is nonsense if u can't collaborate it with the Bible. the bible said we should be fearful for nothing, but with prayer and thanksgiving we should make our supplication known. Dreadlocks, especially the natural one, appears naturally. if you like it on your child keep it. its not stated in the bible anywhere or advised by science that one should cut a new born baby's locks. you are right about Samson however, when you said his case was ordained by God. moreover the bible didn't say he was a 'dada', it just said he was asked not to cut his hair 1 Like |
