A part of me does like it has gone out .... It's because I got attached to my nails and hair that's why all those sickness like stiff happens. |

CAPSLOCKED:Very very superstitious set of people my dear. I traveled home last Christmas and my niece who put to bed of a Male child told me that the baby used to cry whenever his hairs would be combed, and people told her to stop combing the infant's hair that he is dada and that her father (my elder brother) was also dada and if she continues combing the hair, something bad will happen to the child. I warned her seriously over that rubbish and urged her to continue combing the boy's hair. Being that she once lived with me, she obeyed and started combing the baby's hair. I visited home again last March and the baby's hair is still being combed every day. The child no more cries, nothing happened to him and he is now used to his hair being combed. I have two children and I don't tolerate such rubbish. 1 Like |

informationNaija: I was born a Dada and so was my younger brother. We both had our deadlocked hairs cut at a very young age after specific rituals were performed. My mother up till now still say the Dada eulogies (praise words) anytime I call her on the phone or when I visit home. She used to cook beans and share to members of the communities as part of the things parents need to do for their Dada child. In fact that was always done up till my university years. In Yoruba mythology, Dada is one of the many Orisas and was the son of Yemoja (goddess of the sea). One of the reasons why it is believed that Dada children bring abundance. I really don't believe there are any superstitions to this since it's part and parcel of Yoruba mythology. Nonetheless we are all humans that are here to experience life and may face all of life ups and downs as every other human. |

Re: What Is The Mystery Behind Dreadlocks 'Dada'? by ajl: 3:30pm On May 14, 2020 |
silverr: Dada only refer to children or individuals who were born with or developed dreadlock naturally. Its not to be used for those who choose to develop dreads artificially by leaving their hair unkempt. For the true Dadas, even when your parents continue to comb your hair, the dread continues to develop. I guess most of you are disconnected from your culture. So this crazy views. |

Dreadlocks from birth are natural gifts from nature and the have spiritual benefits as in my case helps to foresee future happening and also detect things around, but sadly it's now associated with raggae and all sorts of weed stuffs! |

CAPSLOCKED: Many of you are not enlightened and lack knowledge of your culture and traditions. In Yoruba mythology, Dada is the child of Yemoja and elder brother to Sango (god of lightening). |

If hair is naturally dry and it's left unmoisturized and uncombed it will roll by itself into dreadlocks. This the Cele (spiritual) type of dada. My daughter has such hair and if I was superstitious, she would be in dreadlocks! |

There are definitely spiritual undertones to people with natural dread but i really don't know much about it. For those saying its always dirty its just another lie. I have a beautiful little nephew who was a natural dread and his mom takes good care of the hair. Washes it and applies the right ointments although she is cele sha a strong one who owns her own church. I remember how i used to stroll with this little kid on the streets in Ibadan back then. Na so fine fine girls dey hustle to just carry am or play with am and me no dey fail to finish work He's grown now... that was some nine years ago |
