Pls is staphylococcus aureus treatable . I have used so many antibiotics. This thing keep resisting all . I also posted peer reviewed articles on vancomycin and its safe usage in treating infections such as the one you stated. But I am being attacked tooth and nail, talking about you ending up in AKI or ESRD. OP, at the end of the day, the choice is yours. These herbalists here will rather see you sick so they can make money off your condition. Nigerians are truly evil people.

Right. Being abroad intoxicates me like liquid cocaine straight into the veins. I thought I knew medicine when I was in Nigeria. Little did I know I was as dumb as a cold rock.

In the past, vancomycin has been reported to cause renal failure during intravenous administration; however, more recently, such renal toxicity is alleged not to occur because of increased purity of the vancomycin preparations. Even among these 4 patients with documented worsening of renal function, we suspect that deterioration was related to the infection being treated. With close monitoring of dosing, the propensity of vancomycin to cause nephrotoxicity may be less than once thought.

I suggest you show us a recent study showing that deterioration of renal function is due to the underlying infection and not due to vancomycin, preferably a randomized control trial or a meta-analysis.

As a Cardiovascular and Nephrology Specialist based in US, can you show us some of your publications so that we may also learn from you.

Lastly, as a specialist that you claim to be, I thought you should have known better than online prescription. Granted that Telemedicine is the way to go in this Covid-19 pandemic, the consultation between you and the Op should have been outside the public domain.

OP I'll want to believe you've not seen a specialist in infectious diseases. Like most have said try visit a tertiary health facility where you'll get specialists in different fields of medicine. It's easier to see one there that will handle your case. Every State of the nation has either a Teaching hospital or a Federal medical centre, do yourself a favour and visit one.

Note that Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is treatable mostly using a combination of antibiotics not just one. Else you are only wasting your time killing your kidneys with antibiotics.

Vancomycin is good no doubt but using it alone while managing a resistant form of Staphylococcus aureus is not a wise decision.

You're right. But I don't wanna just go ahead and prescribe 2 at a time. I almost was going to prescribe Gentamycin 60mg per day alongside the Vancomycin but I decided to let him try the vancomycin first. If it didn't, then we'll go with Ceftadizime and gentamycin. Good observation

It is also important to tell the OP to drink lots of fluids. Many people here are attacking me for prescribing Vanco but didn't tell him to drink lots of fluids for renal flushing. Anyways I do what I can to help people.
