According to Wikipedia Edoid languages are made up of Ora Benin urhobo isoko esan estsko etc. They span many southern states like Edo Delta river bayelsa ondo. The talk of nigeria division is forever growing argument and it's stronger now more than ever. Many Niger Delta will like to have Niger Delta republic but there's a second option. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edoid_languages

Nor go start wetin go give una unneccessary names i beg. This is a 21st century and No ethnic group, No matter how vast they are in population will be able to coerce any part of urhobo territory into any union without proper liason. cc owologbo what do you have to say about isoko people? 1 Like |

Igbosmoker To tell you the truth, i'm completely fed up with this contraption called called Nigeria. I Believe Southern Nigeria would have fared much more better if assuming we were not amalgamated into what is now Nigeria, so i do not believe in the Nigerian Project. I believe the Yorubas and igbos would in no way hamper the progress of the Niger-deltan People if a southern confederation of states is formed for instance, with true federalism and total resource control practiced. I believe the Relationship will be a healthy one because we will surely need the educational sophistication of the southwest and the business oriented mindset of the igbos to also thrive such a state. and most importantly, we will have the yorubas to checkmate and contend with the excesses of the igbos and vice versa. As an urhoboman, i do not mind having the capital Of the New Republic in calabar for instance, as long as treaties and MOU's are Signed to ensure that the warri port and refinery becomes functional. 3 Likes |

Lostz: beside there is nothing uniting urhobos and benin other that we have a language patter under same language family. If there was a central ediod language spoken by all group. that would have been a unifying factor 1 Like 1 Share |

Igbosmoker: my parents , grandparents + prominent people I know told me stories of their experience when it was Bendel so I don't need to look for another source. secondly, there was jubilations when we became Delta State........ people will be sad if the Bendel experience was okay 1 Like 1 Share |

Igbosmoker: Well thank God you know that I am Ipob with a difference. Urhobo, Edo and Itshekiri are just cluster that will be part of yoruba nation in future. Already the geography has placed them rightly for Yorubas. There is nothing to argue here. 1 Like 1 Share |

Lostz: Really? And Delta people had so many positions in govt and politics? I knew the civil service very well. Anioma benefited most in positions. Osadebey was premier. No state university in Benin area. But in Ekpoma and education faculty in Abraka (now Delta state university). The only Benin man that ruled Ogbemudia, you need to check what he did in Warri and other areas in Delta. If anything, Benin always compromised, not to be seen as domineering. In my opinion, I would prefer smaller homogeneous nation's even if 3 to 5 million people. Bendel was the most egalitarian multi-ethnic region. Aside Benin, did Abudu, Iguobazuwa or any other town.get much attention? You also forget that around 20% of people in Benin were from Delta. Every classroom had like 30% Delta people. Even till today the Deltans remain in Benin. Benefited from whatever you say Benin took for themselves. Ibori, Uduaghan, Olu of Warri Ikenwoli, all schooled in Uniben that Ogbemudia developed before FG took it over. The Ebies, Unukegwos and Omo-Ageges were people I knew well. All did very well in Bendel. I would prefer Delta to be on their own or join Niger Delta Republic. Not to have argument over oil. Ijaw and others can sort out oil arguments in NDR. Being Edoid is not enough to have unity. If no common purpose, lingering historical issues or potential for fight over oil or anything, better not.⁷ 2 Likes |
