losprince: This goes a long way to show you didn't even understand the comment...there was no place where I mentioned box office money.. I was talking about being in more "blockbusters" aka being in more high caliber movies... obviously those movies would make commercial success but that's another discussion..I was talking about being in them in the first place you won't say he (Cox) never auditioned for them or that he wasn't interested in any of them at all |
Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe by losprince(m): 3:15pm On May 15, 2020 |
pu7pl3:Alright my bad, I've always taken blockbusters to be movies that make huge money, thanks to google, I have now been re-educated. Still, having said that, I still think that's not a good metric to judge an actors acting ability. |

losprince: What other metric do you want to use? I agree this metric isn't really authentic |

pu7pl3:I am showing the flaw in your logic. Popularity and number of blockbusters you're in means nothing in regards to talent or quality. It's a measure of popularity. That's not the same. If your logic were true, The Rock would be a better actor than DDL. 1 Like |
Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe by nyarlathotep(m): 7:53pm On May 15, 2020 |
pu7pl3:This I can answer for me. Cavill has never in anything he was in shown the dynamic level of acting Cox did in Daredevil alone. Cavill is a guy I have always seen as ''fine'' in the movies and shows he was in, but he has never stood out or wowed me. Cox has shown me that. Therefore, better actor. Better quality work = better actor. |
Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe by AfricaGalactic(m): 8:19pm On May 15, 2020 |
pu7pl3:your argument is nonsensical. You’re essentially saying that quantity is greater than quality when it comes to measuring or evaluating talent and that is a ridiculous argument. You can believe Cavill is a better actor than Cox until you’re blue in the face; that’s your right. But measuring talent the way you are (“They’re the same age and one guy was in a bunch of blockbusters that were met with a lukewarm reception at best and the other was the headliner of a Netflix series!”) is one of the most ludicrous things I’ve seen on this forum all year. 3 Likes |

pu7pl3: The numbers say otherwise? Hahahahahaha wetin this guy dey talk? That if you are in a movie with a huge budget then you're a better actor than someone who is in a movie with a medium budget? You are a clown . I suppose you think that Avengers: Endgame, Avatar and Titanic are the best movies in the world? 'Cause numbers don't lie. How about looking at critical acclaim for a change? Cavill has never been the lead in a project that got as much critical acclaim as Daredevil. It's funny, one of Cavill's best reviewed movies is Stardust ... which Cox is the lead in |

I guess the whole Cavill v Cox with regards to Superman really depends on which actor was the better fit for the role. That doesn't always mean that the better actor is the better fit for the part. There's always going to be an actor who's better than another actor. That really doesn't matter to me with regards to an actor fitting the part . The degree to which which actor is better trained , has more skills, is important but its not the be all and end all in the casting of these parts as we've seen through out the history of shhow biz. In regards to who was the best to play Superman or Daredevil for that matter, I think the question is who is the better fit for the part. Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Al Pacino were all better actors than Chris Reeve when Superman was cast , but it didn't mean they were therefore better fits for the Superman role. There were better actors than Tom Welling and George Reeves when they were cast. There were several thesp and established actors considered for the Bond role who were better actors than Sean Connery , but as history shows, he was the best fit for the role at that time. You could go on and on with the casting of all of these films. Imo, Cavill was the right fit for the Superman role. Is he Matt Damon, Leo DiCaprio, or Bale acting level wise? No , he's not. But he certainly fit the part pretty well, all things considered, and with all the complaints about the Snyder films, none of them centered on Cavill as an actor. Not even the most cynical fanboy has questioned his acting with regards to playing Superman. If anything, the sentiment is that he got a raw deal with the scripts. Not saying he's been universally beloved, but it'd be a reach to argue that fans have been complaining about his acting level for eight years. KING |

Acting ain't errythang.... Bale as Batman isn't nearly as iconic as Chris Reeve as Supes despite being a better actor .. Sometimes sheer presence trumps character acting chops. |
Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe by AfricaGalactic(m): 10:58pm On May 15, 2020 |
Lala39:That's sometimes true but in the Cox/Cavill debate I don't think that's a factor. Cavill's Superman had the presence of a cinder block. 1 Like |

Cottonmouth:Robert Pattinson turning out to be a great actor is one of the all-time stunners for me, because I didn't think much of him at all in his younger days. I would have had him pegged as being Hayden Christensen 2.0. He sure proved me wrong. |

HbJ2:You’re not alone. I saw both Twilight movies in theaters and remember just being bewildered as to how bad the acting was across the board. But his second act has been really impressive. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ // Watched Homecoming for the first time in a while. Cutting to the Marvel logo after Keaton says “business is good” is still an all-time flex. It’s a shame FFH was a relative letdown. 1 Like |

nyarlathotep: Actually, your talent speaks for you..if you are talented enough and show it you would always be called on for these kind of projects.. If Cox is as talented as y'all claim he would have been a bigger deal than he is now..it's simple All of you here backing Cox as a better actor are just talking about his role in Daredevil..that's his highest point/level, that's where his range stops..Cavill on the other hand has alot of range Comedy, Action, thrillers and almost all prominent roles...we have seen him helpless, we have seen him as a spy, we have seen him handle swords etc and he looks to just be getting started Again this comparison isn't the same as comparing Daniel Day to the Rock in any way, they are totally different comparisons 2 Likes 1 Share |

nyarlathotep: I just saw this... I agree the Daredevil performance was good...nothing otherworldly but it was definitely above average and the role suited him well cos the man looks naturally helpless... Cavill maybe wouldn't be able to play that role like he did but check out their work over the years, acting has to do with range...Cox plays almost the same type of character (charmingly helpless but mostly intelligent character) in everything he has been in, even in music videos and short films then check out Cavill who has largely played different roles with different character traits Better range = better actor 2 Likes 1 Share |

pu7pl3:It’s obvious from this statement that you don’t know how Hollywood works. See above. It takes more than just talent to become famous or star in blockbusters. All of you here backing Cox as a better actor are just talking about his role in Daredevil..Because 1) he’s very good in it; 2) that’s his most well-known project; and 3) this is a superhero thread. Uh huh. Right. Because Cox never got the opportunity to demonstrate range on DD. He was never funny or charming or scared or enraged or sad or helpless or anything but...whatever you think he was. Tone down on your nonsense please. Attached gif: sO mUCh RaNGe 4 Likes 1 Share |

I'm just going to come out and say it. The reason Cavill gets bigger roles than Cox is because he's better looking. That's it |
Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe by AfricaGalactic(m): 8:08pm On May 16, 2020 |
HbJ2:i didn't know this but it makes this whole debate that much funnier. Lol @1000waystolive, You definitely nailed it, it seems Cavill gets more leading roles because he looks like he was carved out of marble |
Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe by 1000WaysToLive(m): 8:17pm On May 16, 2020 |
It isn't just Snyder's direction either, as much as I loathe it. I feel that way about Cavill in pretty much anything. I just watched MI6 again a couple of weeks ago, and anybody could have played that role. He wasn't terrible or anything, but difference between the level of acting from Cavill and the level of acting from actors like Tom Cruise,Alec Baldwin , Angela Bassett, and Simon Pegg that he was sharing scenes with was noticeable. I can't even..with you guys anymore... someone that claims to know how Hollywood works is saying that Cavill gets more roles just because he is good looking There is nothing else to add here...run from it all you want, deny it all you want Cavill is the better actor and he will continue to be more prominent and relevant than Cox.. Cox can stick to his usual music videos and short films..it's what he is really good at... |

pu7pl3:How is the comparison not the same. The Rock is in more ''big'' movies, which is the entire basis of your argument. You just don't like me pointing out your flawed logic. Otherwise, you'd be able to come back with more than ''it's not the same!'' Well, explain your position then? Since you're not, then I assume you can't. Therefore, I'd exit this argument. You are starting to look foolish. 1 Like |
