Scores killed as gunmen stop Governor, DSS, Army, Police from entering town. Scores of persons are feared killed in a communal conflict in Tigno town of Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa. Samuel Danga and Usman Babale, both residents of the area, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Yola that the incident sparked off by misunderstanding between two youths. They told NAN that many people lost their lives from gunshots, while several houses, shops and filling stations were destroyed. Scores, millitant, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, also confirmed the development. Nguroje said the command received report of the conflict on Thursday evening and on Friday. The police spokesman added that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and security chiefs in the state had visited the area. He confirmed that the governor and security chiefs were however prevented from entering the town due to heavy gunshots. Nguroje said: “But some security operatives from the convoy entered the town professionally and rescued about 30 people.” According to the PPRO, the situation is now under control as heavy armed security were deployed to the area. He said: “Yesterday (Friday) Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Commissioner of Police, Brigade Commander, Director Department of State Services among other security chiefs, visited the area amidst heavy gunshots. “Even though the governor and security chiefs’ convoy did not enter the town due to the heavy gunshots, they were at the area for almost three hours. “We rescued about 30 people to Lafiya Internally Displaced Persons camp and the number of casualties are yet to be ascertained.” Nguroje also said the Commissioner of Police had deployed the Squadron Commander of MOPOL 14, Area Commander from Numan and all DPOs within the area to the conflict centre. He further stated that the immediate response had yielded positive result as the gunmen were chased away from Tigno town to nearby hills. He said the command had deployed officers from the Criminal Investigation Department to the area to establish the remote cause of the conflict and those behind it. Similarly, Humwashi Wonosikou, the Press Secretary to Fintiri, said the governor visited the area with security chiefs in the state amidst heavy gunfire. Wonosikou equally said the governor’s convoy could not enter the town. He said the remote cause of the conflict was still unknown to the government. “But Government is going to take stiff action and proactive measures to contain the situation and that anybody or group found wanting will definitely face the wrath of the law,” Hunosikou said. NAN also reports that in less than 12 hours after the deadly communal attack, some gunmen invaded Mbemun community in same Lamurde Local Government Area and rustled cattle and other domestic animals. Burton William, the Chairman of the local government, confirmed the attack to newsmen on Saturday in Yola. “The gunmen after looting the community last night burnt down the entire village,” William said. The chairman said the level of damage was yet to be ascertained. |

People in Northern Nigeria tolerated and even at times encouraged lots of anti social behaviors and vices among their youths for several years. Drug abuse in that part is in a class of it's own. They tolerated idleness, joblessness and lots of other factors that eventually led to the violence they are witnessing today. Their youths did not suddenly become violent killers, it was a gradual process. When almajiri kids grow up, what do we expect them to do to earn their livelihood? Continue begging? Lol... Southern Nigeria is a bomb waiting to explode. Drug abuse is on the increase, we are tolerating touts, thuggery and cultism and even encouraging it by not doing anything to this problems. I still remember those days when "we" were justifying internet fraudsters because "we" felt they were retrieving the wealth the colonialism stole from us, when scamming foreigners became tough for them and they already destroyed Nigeria's image in the international community, they started scamming us. It is only a matter of time before internet fraud becomes less lucrative and these "youths" turn to kidnapping, armed robbery, money rituals and drug pushing. The greed in them will continue to make them get money by all means. The kids we fail to train today will be our bane tomorrow. The quantity of illegal weapons in Nigeria today and what we are doing about it foretells what will happen in future. 11 Likes 1 Share |

komekn(m): 9:09pm On May 14 You miss the point completely, the embraer aircraft in its basic form is simply a turboprop aircraft everything is a retrofit to make it the A29. It was made not as fighter at its initiation. That attribute was added much later. dragon2(m): 10:43pm On May 14 The tucano was built from day one as a military aircraft. The first aircraft was called tucano emb 301 and emb 311. The proposal was to the Brazilian AF. komekn(m): 8:54pm On May 16 The Embraer was built as a military training aircraft, absolutely correct. What's the particular point in that❓ Don't confuse yourself. Emb 311 and 312 was designed from day one for counter insurgency and was not a simple turboprop as you suggested to which I replied . ....komekn. There are so many aircraft, indeed the Alpha Jet was instituted as a trainer. Buy today it's probably out most effective and dependable ground attack asset over the decades. Yet it was essentially a training aircraft at inception.... Alpha jet was designed to handle light attack none was a retrofit from basic. 2 Likes |

Komekn Comparatively the South African Mwari was purpose built as a fighting light single engined turboprop aircraft. The approach has been modular. You said it has no identifiable weapon systems that's not true. It's stupendously adaptable to so many it has 24 hard points, the A29 has 5. Me. You said it was a comparatively cheap alternative to A29 ,I am saying the low price versions have no modules. Once you start adding the weapon systems the price goes up. That is why the made it modular. https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/rsa/mwari.htm The military variant of the plane called 'Mwari' was to be on market in 15 months. Cost set at $10 million in 2011, but no price given with systems in place. Komekn. Remind me why the NAF is spending $600 million package. Me. You are trolling. 2 Likes |

Komekn We already have aircraft that can drop 500 pound bombs. Albeit not very accurately when you rely entirely on pilot ability it's not precision. It is well documented NAF dropping bombs on friendly and or wrong targets. That's not what you pay $600 million for. Me. That is why you don't need drones that can only fire expensive 25kg missiles, but rather an aircrat that can loiter like the drone but drop much larger munitions with much greater effect on the enemy. Do you think repurposing a plane (pc-21) built for simulation into a ground attack aircraft with actual weapon systems will be cheap?! Komekn The rockets we make are not precision guided do you know the effective cast range❓ . They are struggling to exceed 1.5 km. That puts the aircraft delivering such munitions in a position of weakness for AA fire. Me. This is what we use all the time from our helicopters and Alpha jets, what is the attrition rate of those platforms? If both can handle it why not the Tucano?and we build it, but the drone can't be armed with it because they are not meant for such.Even if we decided to buy the 8km range hydra rocket (which we are, I gave the link) it is far cheaper than missiles. Modify, drones have killed civilians too 2 Likes |

Komekn Finally, which would you rather have 50 Wing Loong II UAV with complete 24 hr over watch and 2000 fit for purpose assorted MBT, IFV, APC, MRAP, LAV, tracked and wheeled with a good 15% with RWS in the HERE & NOW. Or 12, A29 turboprop aircraft that will be delivered on or before 2024 projected. Me. We already have drones, why do you think we don't have more?. You want us to kill 3 terrorists in a technical with a 1 to 10 million naira missile when we can use cheap made in Nigeria rockets as effectively? Have you seen the attrition rate of drones? Go and ask turkey. 2 Likes |

Kalapizim:SF for formations in the country? Even Paratroopers are not created to be in all formations in the country. If its base defense, the Regiment is more than enough to handle the threats. To me, the lines between their Regiment & SF gets too blurred at times...like an overlap of function. |
