STENON: Recalcitrant people would rather choose to advice candidates that IELTS is waste of money. They will not even leave it at the fact that other people have already answered the question clearly and concisely. They would rather prefer to show their ‘intelligence’ by suggesting that candidates choose other schools or courses which do not require IELTS. Yesterday, I asked a question on this forum to gauge why some people seem to have a morbid fear of IELTS. I wanted to get a fair idea, then offer my perspective. Two or three posts later, someone asked a specific question about IELTS. The person received an appropriate answer from another member. But someone else ignored that 1st answer and decided to push through his own ‘agenda‘ of saying the IELTS exams is useless (without recourse to peculiarities of the OP). In addition to your two ‘case studies’ above, I too personally know someone who went to the UK for an MSc. The uni required IELTS. They refused to write, called the uni all sort of names. They applied to another Uni (same course) and somehow managed to ‘pressure ‘ the Uni into accepting NECO. Well, they finished the MSc, spent £500 to register with HCPC. Spent a lot more money to have certificates verified in Nigeria. Final hurdle: HCPC required IELTS (which they didn’t have). It was too late to register and write as visa was running out. Guess who is back in Portharcourt? Hustling hard and wishing they had written IELTS ? Bottom line: IELTS is not waste of money. Maximum you may spend is NGN 100k. If anyone were to ask me whether IELTS is mandatory or not for UK admission, I would simply say: It depends on the course and on the school too. Best person(s) to answer is your prospective school. 3 Likes |

Dear Prospective Student (from Nigeria), I have seen several forumites coming here to ask for “A List if UK schools which does not Require IELTS”. I would seriously recommend and suggest that IELTS (or any ENGLIsH proficiency test) should not be the major decider in your selection. What is the point of running away from the IELTS-requiring schools/ courses and going for the NECO/WASSCE-requiring ones, only to end up with (what they used to say in the UK) a Mickey Mouse Degree? You want the ‘easy-way’ when it comes to admission. You get the admission. Finish the degree. You send 1000,000 CVs and no UK company invites you for an interview. No Tier-2 sponsor willing to issue you a CoS. Simply because you chose the ‘easy way out’ ab initio. Wetin you gain? No ‘Pain’, No Gain. 3 Likes |

LaaJiblik:Based on what you just said now... A quick look at Dundee MSc nursing has no pre-registration with NMC as been offered by GCU. Better to go with the right advice that has long term advantage , than because of money, go for the wrong path with no long or short term benefit. Another scenario apart from this IELTS is for any school requesting for UKNARIC. Please do not run away from them, kindly do it as this is an opportunity to further register with some Professional Bodies in UK. Without UKNARIC, you can not be registered to practice as a Professional in UK. **note : I am not referring to Professional bodies like APM, PMI, or others. 1 Like |

Aprokodaughter:GCU is very good based on some news I read about them. Maybe you should re-email them back because they are still offering admission during this lockdown. |

Seriously I feel some people just want to talk just for the sake of it. I for one understood what the person was trying to say when he/she said "it's a waste of money",the person never meant that the exam is useless instead the person was trying to say there are other easier alternatives. This should be so easy to understand. Make we sha dey observe Aprokodaughter: 2 Likes |

POP2CECI:Mehn since you have first class, there are so many scholarship opportunities you can obtain that covers full fee and stipends. 2.1 graduates can also benefit from these scholarships same as yours. But most scholarships for 2020 has closed. And the above scholarships are competitive. You can try applying for the above scholarships as it is still on. Meet and exceed the stated scholarship criteria. Having First class only will not make you win scholarships. It is not uncommon for 2.1 graduates to gain scholarship and win before first class. Things like work experience, volunteerism and family background is being considered apart from academic excellence. Also note the impact the study will make to you individually and home country, Nigeria. Dont write you plan to work and stay in the UK. Write a succint essay and have strong reccomendation letters from notable Professors. Other scholarships you could have benefit from are University of Nottingham (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/pgstudy/funding/developing-solutions-masters-scholarship) and University of Glasgow (https://www.gla.ac.uk/scholarships/universityofglasgowafricanexcellencefeewaiver/) also give full scholarships but these has closed. Other scholarship opportunities prospective candidates (First class and 2.1) may try out for next year are: Commonwealth Nominated, Commonwealth Shared, Chevening, PTDF, NDDC (not out for this year) , USA and Canada schools and many more. CURRENT SCHOLARSHIP YOU CAN APPLY FOR ONLY FIRST CLASS ONLY Education USA Scholarship https://ng.usembassy.gov/education-culture/exchange-programs/opportunity-fund/ Deadline is May 31st. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

STENON: Wahoo. Thanks didnt even know that dundee didnt have the pre registration process. Yet the tuition fees is so high. @apokrodaughter. Concerning GCU I applied last year for a course they replied me late and I wasnt able to meet up. I thought that was my only option so I kept mailing back and forth till this pandemic they replied me. With all the stress sef I dont even think I will want them again. If you want them follow up with the admission and they have a place where you can request for calls and follow up. |

STENON: Yes o good reviews. I mailed them like three weeks ago since I was meant to have an interview with them May 20th. They actually responded that my application is still with the department. Will have to wait next month which I can't wait again decided to firm DMU. So I can focus on other things like school fees and other stuff just incase VAC opens this month or next. |

Aprokodaughter:I guess some courses have very high applications and so it's taking time to sort things out. Sometimes, its easier and faster to get admission for courses like Project/quality management, than some core science courses. 1 Like |

mamacajah:UK NARIC is the designated United Kingdom national agency for the recognition and comparison of international qualifications and skills. It performs this official function on behalf of the UK Government. https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/ I did UKNARIC statement of comparability to compare my Nigeria Teaching licence and all my certificates with UK standard. 1 Like |

UK NARIC can be compared to WES in the US/Canada. Yes, it's similar to the ECA process for Canada. They provide a translation/evaluation/comparison of your documents within the UK context. pretty1986: The ones I have done: DMU: Zoom Chester: they sent me questions to answer through a recorded video. Second interview(since they canceled the first course I applied for) this week will be through skype. They will tell which medium they will use for the interview. For instance the I could not compete the DMU interview due to Nigerian network so I had to fix a new date and call them through a whatsapp video call. |
