Good day, I got admission into the university of Essex to study Finance and Big data analytics. I want to know how sell able the course is in the UK because I plan to stay back after my studies. Also, my total fees was 18,000 but I got 4,000 off. However, I may have the difficulty in paying the balance. Please I will like to know if there is a way I can pay when I travel. Thank you. |

Finance and big data analytics is good but getting a job upon the completion of your course is dependent on you (job search, knowledge demonstration, experience e.t.c). What do you mean by difficulty paying the balance? Issues with bank transfer, delay in sorting funds, insufficient funds? Any other reason apart from this? zaynabola: |

Good afternoon Stenon, Please what is ur advice to someone going for PGCE with the hope of getting QTS in Mathematics considering the fact that teaching mathematics is in UK shortage occupation list. Is it a good investment for easy stay after graduation compared to going for MSC instead of PGCE. STENON: |

That will be a tough one to pull off as your tuition balance is kinda high and what you have isn't even close to what you need. * You'd also have to provide evidence to UKVI to prove that you can fund your tuition and living costs and there's no way that you can get your visa with evidence of just 30% of your tuition and nothing for maintenance. * You can only work 20 hours during term-time on minimum wage (£8.72 if you're above 25) and if you find a job where you can work up to 20 hours weekly, your weekly take home will be around 174.4 (£697.6 monthly). You might be lucky to get something around £9.20 or £10 depending on the kind of business. And it's not a given that you'd find a job as soon as you get into the UK; it's also not a given that you'd get a job that would give you up to 20 hours work weekly. The above is a guide to help you figure out your estimated income based on working part-time. * Now, off-campus housing costs are around £300-450/month depending on what area of Essex you live in. That's leaves you with between £397.6 - £247.6 monthly. If you multiply this by 9months, you'd save roughly £3,578.4 -£2,228.4 which is not even enough to pay the 70% (£8,600) balance of your fees. And that's not including your transportation and feeding costs. *This will leave you unable to concentrate and commit to studying as you'd be too worried and stressed to study so I'd advice that you seek funding opportunities to mitigate your funding risk. Note: 50% of your fees (£7,000) is due at registration and the other 50% is usually due around December/January and in worst case scenarios, inability to make this payment can lead to a cancellation of your visa without you being able to achieve your main reason for coming to the UK. zaynabola: 7 Likes 1 Share |

This may sound mean but with only 30%, I will feel very sorry for you if you go ahead. There’s no kind of 20 hours work per week or even full time during holiday, that will cover the remaining 70% and your living expenses. Remember you’re also talking about going in this CONVID19 period where there’re job losses everywhere? It’s not like before when you arrive and get NIN, you will go and register with one agency that will start sending you shifts. As it is now, you’re looking at not getting a job until say a month or two after your course start date. Before you know, you will start falling behind payments and your uni will start bombarding your email with payment notices/remainders You will find yourself being forced to work more hours ........which will breach the conditions of your visa and come back to hunt you when you apply for other visas or ILR/PR etc. You might end up overworking yourself and coming out with PASS, because you will barely have time for study or visit the library. On top of the pass sef, you may not have any relevant work experience in your area of studies (because the easiest works to get are either care or security or restaurant etc) or develop any relevant skills to help in your pursuit of tier 2. My dear, who has done who now?. All that suffer for nothing. See my brother or sister, no go do pass yourself. I was in your shoes 2018 but I decided not to take such risks. It’s not worth it. It’s better to have 70% ready than only 30%. My opinion though... all the best. zaynabola: 5 Likes 1 Share |

realking:Its a very good option and that's another route for QTS in England. Other route which you can try assuming you are currently living in with any degree and have a good passion for Teaching is the assessment only route with more details here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-assessment-only-route-to-qts https://www.ucas.com/teaching-option/assessment-only-route-qualified-teacher-status-qts The providers are : https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/explore-my-options/teacher-training-routes/specialist-training-options/assessment-only/ao-provider-list |

zaynabola:If you have enough data and time. You can try canada as another alternative. They always take in Graduate assistant from Nigeria. Don't ask for scholarship, ask for a Graduate assistantship position either as Teaching or Research Assistant with full tuition waiver and monthly stipends. You can follow this guidelines : It is a "Do It Yourself" DIY thing. Search for any 40 different universities each in Canada, US, Germany Click on your department Click on "People and Faculty" Check their individual Profs/Drs. Page to know their research interests/specialization Copy their mails and name Send them your written statement by personalizing it to them like... Dear Prof. Nairaland, My name is abc, (Add the body of your 200 words statement here). Write a personal statement not more than 200 words and introduce yourself, your undergraduate institution name, country, course, cgpa(mention your first class or whatever, just write it as 4.. /5.00 and also in percentage maybe X%) ,your past research work, your publications and awards including names of journals, volume and pages of published work, any conferences attended, any software training you know in your discipline, Your hard and soft skills, Postgraduate research interest, how you intend to use your previous experience towards your new research, your present work, when you intend to start your postgraduate (mention spring 2021 or Fall 2021, depending on what opening they have) future career plan like going for PhD and becoming Emeritus. I wish to be your Graduate Teaching or Research Assistant. I have attached my certifcate, transcripts, publications, awards certificate, link to my publications to this mail.(please remember to scan and attach). Thank you in anticipation for your response. Warm regards, Your first name then surname Email address Active phone number +23470... Step 2. After a positive response, reply by asking of the funding package available for your studies while doing your MSc/PhD studies as a Graduate Assistant with the Prof. Pray along with it and have a positive mind. Here is it quote author=Skymoore1004 post=89622741]Please can you put a screenshot of your offer? Thought you said £5500 before? You can remove your details. So you can be guided better. I doubt tuition for the whole programme is £5500 or £6000. That’s for 1st year from my own knowledge sha [/quote]

Hello. I'm planning to study as an undergraduate in the UK (under a scholarship). Presently i do not have the requirements to apply so i plan to use the remaining of this year to get prepared then next year I would apply. I will also seek admission in a Nigerian university (UNN to be precise) just incase i dont get the scholarship. The thing is; will it be easy, if possible, to transfer if i get the supposed UK admission? Thank you |
Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 4 by Nobody: 10:25pm On May 17, 2020 |
Plaouse:To be candid, forget about obtaining undergraduate scholarship in UK as it is very competitive. Also A Levels is being considered for admission ? Do you have Cambridge or ATS A Levels? Your O level and A level should be mostly A's. If you want undergraduate scholarship, focus on USA schools and apply here: https://ng.usembassy.gov/education-culture/exchange-programs/opportunity-fund/ You can also try Federal Scholarship board undergraduate scholarship or Chiese undergraduate scholarship. Most importantly, just focus on getting Nigerian university admission. Try and score high in your JAMB as I hope your O level is top notch. Aim for first class. Then you can get postgraduate scholarship. Also with your first class CGPA in school, you can apply for many undergraduate scholarships like PTDF, Oando, Mobil, Shell, MTN, Total, Seplat, Chevron, Agbami, Agip and many more. I got two undergraduate scholarships and it was more than enough for my studies. So strive and be the best in your respective Nigeria school with high GPA. You can also get foreign postgraduate scholarship like how I did when you finish. The sky is your limit. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Good morning all I have a question Is it a red flag for a 38 year old to apply for a study visa via a masters program? |

Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 4 by Cyberknight: 8:44am On May 18, 2020 |
Sthill5: Why should it be? The UK needs the fees international students pay to balance its universities' budgets, so you are all welcome. The policy is to let as many as possible in, take their school fees money then allow them to work a couple of years (think eldercare) to earn some money back. Win-win for the UK economy. 3 Likes |

justwise: Thank you. But will i be able to transfer if i become a student in a Nigerian University? Seeking a scholarship isn't much of a problem - whats the possibility of getting one (I dont have a straight A result nor a great CGPA its more like Bs) Like hosey advised, is it better to seek these scholarships at undergraduate or postgraduate level? |
Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 4 by STENON(f): 11:07am On May 18, 2020 |
realking:PGCE is for someone with degree certificate but without teaching experience to be qualified as a Teacher with QTS in UK. With all the information you have already given, I am sure he met all the requirements to be a Teacher here and it will be a great investment. You can confirm from Justwise if international students are eligible for Tier 4 visa to study PGCE because I am not too sure of it. Better still, Please look for another school with cheaper tuition fees for him to do MSc either in his Mathematics discipline ( To be a master of his discipline) or Management courses ( it's a requirement and fast route to taking leadership position within the school). The masters will help in getting tier 4 student visa and he will manage the rest after coming over. 1 Like |

Plaouse: I doubt you will be able to transfer to the U.K from Nigeria. Getting scholarship at undergraduate level is a lot better, that is 3 years of free money and peace of mind. Like I said to you before. Use this opportunity to find out requirements for those scholarships then know how to get required qualifications to meet it. 2 Likes |
