Lagos Doctors Begin Indefinite Sit-At-Home Strike To Protest Police Harassment by References: 2:00pm On May 20, 2020
The Lagos State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association has directed members to embark on a “Sit-at-Home strike to protest alleged harassment of its member at the frontline of Covid-19 by security operatives.

The group accused the Police in Lagos of harassing its members through conflicting directives on the status of essential workers.

In a press statement, the association of doctors noted that “Whereas the directives of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhamadu Buhari, through the Presidential Taskforce on COVID 19, was clear on the exemption of essential workers including doctors and other health-workers from the ongoing lockdown/movement restrictions, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, has been issuing conflicting directives on social and mainstream media to the effect that essential workers, including doctors and other health-workers are NOT exempted”.

The group said as a result of the conflicting directives of the government and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, it has been inundated with several cases of harassments and intimidation of doctors and other health-workers by officers of the Lagos State Police command.

The group said it was no longer safe for its members to continue to work under the present conflicting directives; pointing out that it has directed all members to proceed on an indefinite “Sit at home” strike.

NPF - Nigerian Police Farce

You give fully automatic rifles to lazy, ill-trained, underpaid, demotivated and retired cultists who have no regard for human life and expect them to act civilized?

I will say drain the swamp and completely reform the Police, but then again the enemy is everyone of us... Talk to your father, mother, brother, sister, cousin, nephew, niece in the Police Force to change. After all charity begins at home and everyone of us has someone he/she knows in the Force.

Why Lagos the epicentre of this pandemic?. The govt had better tapered down the curfew a bit or at least bend the rules for medical doctors and health workers to avoid commotions.

Nigerian leaders are completely irresponsible and have zero passion for their jobs, all they care about is making money from their office.
How can police be harassing health workers despite the on going pandemic. This country is completely crazy
Nigerian leaders are fools

Very nice decision, what kind of nonsense is this? Taking the risk to attend to COVID-19 patients with insufficient PPE is enough sacrifice. How are doctors expected to make it to the hospital if the senseless police force insist on harassing them? That commissioner of police should be deployed to Rivers State to work hand in hand with Gov. Wike.
I hate fools that are overzealous when they try to implement their job. The term essential worker says it all, they require unlimited movement while they go to perform their legal duty.

The IGP post an update online this morning. The police should please respect the directives from the FG and state governments.

Medical staff are essential workers. Everyone knows that.

The police is the greatest nuisance in Nigeria.

If I were the President, I will start a new force for about a year, then scrap the existing police force.

I will give those still willing to work after the scrapping, the opportunity to plough government farms.
