That's why there are quota systems around the world; whether racial or gender- based ,this is a way of bridging the gap between the empowered and those whose potential has been suppressed. Yes,but the legacy of the past still affects our today, and many of the beliefs that caused the girl child to be left behind are still in place . For instance in many families, if they have a chance to take one kid to school,they will send the boy. Boys from a young age are empowered & groomed to be self confident & self reliant whereas the girls are still taught how to be good servants to everyone else but themselves. In some societies boys are challenged & expected to excel academically ,while no-one does that much encouraging or investing in the future of the female kids.
