.....For a farmer who s not well versed or lazy in thinking,...of not all Nigerian leaders and creme de la creme, wouldn't be spending their cash and investment on farms ,there is a secret behind their actions, cud still remember, the former Governor of Adamawa State ,Muritala N'Yarko, saying he derived nothing less than,9billons annually from his mangoes farms alone , does he need to be a agricultural middle men to achieve that ,..?..only that agricultural middle men save you stress and long time,to make profit unlike being Farmer originally, they both make profit

Thanks very much for your contribution bro.

Am from Ogun state Abeokuta precisely.
1) I would like to ask where did you get the tractor for the farm work?
2) what is the planting cost for the 2hectares?
3) where is your farm located
4) how much is used for fuelling the tractor
5) Do you mind if I can have first hand experience on your farm, if possible help out too.

You are welcome sir.
Ogun-Osun water tractor is 35k for ploughing and ridging 1 hectare of land fueling included but i Didn't use them as planned due to corona shut down, so i used manual labour which was more expensive but my july planting will be tractor.
Manual labour i used was 12k for clearing 1 acre, 12k for ridging 1 acre, 5k for planting 1 acre, 2k for spraying 1 acre.
I used igede people and they are very hardworking.

With tractor, the planting cost of 1 hectare to harvesting to harvesting shouldn't exceed 100k minus having a farm land.
Farm is located at a village behind Funaab but kinda far, about 30m from funab.
You can pm me to discuss offline

I believe so brother. Since we can grow groundnuts in south-west states like Oyo and ogun, i don't see any reason why it won't grow in Ondo. As a matter of fact, i know of a man that do plant groundnuts in Ondo.
Call hm - 07038680731
I believe he planted local seeds which doesn't give much pods but if you want to plant something that will give you more profits, plant improved seedlings especially samnut 21, 22 for 4 months or samnut 26 for 3 months.
Let me know your conversation with him.

Not at all ma.
I will constantly update the thread just that am stuck at work and my manager is the one sending me the pix.
After lifting the lockdown and am home, will be updating regularly.
So far, the major challenge we have been having is this erratic or irregular rainfall due to climate change, it's really crazy and i won't have bothered myself or noticed if i haven't been into farming.
By this time of the year mid may, we should have been having regular rainfall even from march sef but now, the last rain at Abeokuta was last week thursday, very pathetic.
I planted the groundnuts 1st of may and had to do a replanting on 13th may for those that didn't grow because the germination rate of the seed i bought is 95% while i noticed 70% practically, so i had to replant the 30% again.
I'm already preparing the land for the second/late planting in july for the second batch and will correct my mistakes from the first one in it.
Thanks for caring.
Pls I intend planting groundnut in July . I want to ask if you do buy from other farms too apart from the harvest from your farm?

Yes ma, i will buy from you if your price is okay by me.
Where are you planting it?
And how many acres or hectares? so as to factor you into my plan.

Are you planting local or hybrid? so as to know the oil content to be expected.
And when is your expected harvest time?

Hello nairalanders,

The new planting season is here and am about trying my hands on 2 acre of groundnuts.
Fingers crossed. I'll be uploading the progress regularly to teach and be taught so lets be positive on this thread.

I am into groundnut oil production and my major challenge has been the high cost of raw materials (groundnut) which has rendered the business handicapped.
I do buy groundnuts from bida, mokwa, kano, gombe and adamawa but the cost and logistics has made me to think inward and homeward.
Cost of leasing 1 acre is #6,000
Tractor for ploughing 1 acre is #5,000 excluding fueling.
Seed - i bought improvised seed, samnut 21 and 22 (12 kg per acre each) = #9,600 for all
Other things to do -
Tractor ridging - #5,000 per acre minus fueling.
Herbicides
Planting cost
Insecticide to be sprayed immediately after flowering.
Cost of spraying insecticide.
Cost of harvesting.
Thanks and will keep you updated
pls where did you get the land for 6k and how can someone also get it.

Op you did not make mention of fertilizer, don't you use it or there is no need for it. Also I will like to to ask which variety gives the most oil, local or improved seed.

No bro, i didn't use fertilizer because groundnut is legume and rather gives nutrients back to the soil rather than taking.
Hybrid seeds will give you a better oil yield especially samnut 23, 24 and 26
