People signed away their lives in a rush to phantom fame. Why turn around to blame your Record label if you made a bad deal? Everything is spelled out and they stick to the terms. Many have gone and more will drown. It is the nature of the beast all over the world.

U see record labels owners know exactly how to exploit an artist, as an artist u are so desperate to blow that u hardly look at the papers u are signing. In addition, many of us (fans) choose to be oblivious of the investments (particularly endless promotions which cost millions monthly) made on these celebrated artists before and after becoming famous. Unfortunately, for one successful artist in a Record Label, there are several other artists in the Record Label that have remained unsuccessful despite the expenses made on them.

My point is that the successful artist doesn't own himself nor his stage name (brand), let alone entire profits. Same way, the CEO doesn't own the entire profits. Profits made by the successful artist and other successful artists (if any) in the Record Label belong to everyone in the Record Label, down to the Menial Staff and several other areas of interest as designed by their Accounting Department.

One major risk in attempting to run a successful Record Label for decades is the indiscipline, extravagant and reckless lifestyle of some successful artists once the money start coming in from everywhere. They get so addicted to this lifestyle and even claim such lifestyle gives them the needed inspiration for another hit song. Yet no artist (product) remain relevant for life but the Record Label (Company) must remain relevant for that artist (while contract remains valid), failed artists and upcoming artists in the Record Label.

So please enough badmouthing of Record Labels. The same guys that signed the "360 Deal" could have never been rich nor famous if not for the Record Label, yet some of them later chose to give thanks with arrogance and ingratitude. Jawon, May D and others come to mind. Though, contracts can be reviewed often but that is if the artist really worth it. And such review should be considered for the long-run because entertainment industry is one of the most volatile industries where an artist can drop off the chart so suddenly like a tornado.
