Re: Benin Was A Yoruba speaking Empire. by lawani: 7:28pm On May 23, 2020 |
Juliusmalema:Yes, very true. The lingua franca of the empire was Yoruba. The palace was distinct from the suburbs where edo was spoken. The palace was a city housing over 50 thousand souls and their language was Yoruba not edo. |

lawani: That is to say the ruling house are Yorubas..This is revealing... 50 thousand souls? |
Re: Benin Was A Yoruba speaking Empire. by lawani: 7:42pm On May 23, 2020 |
Juliusmalema:The whole architecture of the empire was Yoruba but the suburbs of the capital or palace had their own vernacular which was and still is edo. |

Juliusmalema:The Benin kingdom not empire, is now edo. Edo speakers overwhelmed the palace in the late 19th century. |

[quote author=lawani post=89903202]The owa obokun monarchy is older than the Benin monarchy, so the Benin copied from the Ijesa.[/quote I never said that..... The owo palace is older then the benin palace does that mean the king occupying the throne is not a benin monarchy..... The owo palace is even older tgen the ife palace does that mean owo birthed ife..... |

lawani: You're a very funny fellow, you make authoritive claims like you're the all and all, no proves, no facts nothing you bring to prove your point rather What you believe and not what others have said you're argue a primary school student no offense tho Nigga bring prove to drive your point Owa originated from ife so am just mean to Believe it because you said it, when scholars had said a Yoruba king from ilesha paid benin to war ijesha and benin found away to install their king |
Re: Benin Was A Yoruba speaking Empire. by lawani: 1:16pm On May 24, 2020 |
gregyboy:I have said I can't post links because I don't know how to with my phone but you can google owo to see that the oba is not from Benin neither is the owa obokun of Ijesaland from Benin. They are both descendants of oduduwa like the oba of Benin. The fact that owa obokun Gbegbaaje sought Benin help during a war does not make the owa obokun stool to be from Benin. History does not say that. You ought to know that even if you reawake the Benin empire today, you will still have to use Yoruba as lingua franca and not edo. That is the point of my original post. Your ancestors lived in the Benin suburbs and not the palace or capital. 2 Likes |

gregyboy:what scholar said Benin install a king in ijesha gregy liar. Owa obokun throne is from ife just like urs. No scholar in the world has ever written that the ijesha king came from Benin. If I call TA011 over here wey get ur time now u go dey claim victim. 3 Likes |

gregyboy:owo king has no relation to Benin monarchy. Owo king trace their origin to ife just like ur king. Benin do not own bead or circular beads we have debated the issue in the past. Akun (bead) is a strong part of Yoruba culture 2 Likes |

Moneywomen17: Bro I noticed you spelt TA011 instead of TAO11 (emphasis on the "O" ). That gregyboy is my favourite sport. Just call on me whenever is around. Although I'm aware you're more than capable to trash him, but sometimes I just need to relax with my favourite sport. Cheers! 2 Likes |

Re: Benin Was A Yoruba speaking Empire. by TAO11(f): 2:22pm On May 24, 2020 |
Moneywomen17: No! The correct thing is "O". You've been mistakenly using zero ("0" ) instead. |

lawani: so the oba of Benin and the 7 chiefs that were speaking Benin were ruling over Yorubas Judge urself..Will a kingdom filled with Yoruba allow a Benin to rule? Since all of us want to be mad here... The ife kingdom used Hausa as lingua and had more Hausa citizens than Yoruba... |
Re: Benin Was A Yoruba speaking Empire. by TAO11(f): 3:44pm On May 24, 2020 |
Etinosa1234: Benin Kingdom was made up of Edos obviously. But the lingua-franca of the palace and the whole kingdom of Edo was at a time Yoruba language. 1 Like |
Re: Benin Was A Yoruba speaking Empire. by Etinosa1234: 3:52pm On May 24, 2020 |
TAO11:This is a complete fallacy.. I can also wake up one day and claim that the lingua franca of the oyo Empire was Hausa..... it doesn't correlate at all.. If they were speaking Yoruba as at that time..Edo language would have completely died by now.. if They were actually speaking Yoruba then...then what led to the decline of the language in the land... You can hardly find a Homegrown benin that can hear Yoruba sef There is no source, link , evidence or proof that this happened.... what u and the other guy are saying is even contradictory.. he said Yoruba citizens, u are saying Yoruba speaking Benin it's All bunch of lies and fallacy.. I never wanted to get involved..but it's really annoying |
Re: Benin Was A Yoruba speaking Empire. by lawani: 4:00pm On May 24, 2020 |
TAO11:benin kingdom is now edo but the old empire had more yoruba than edo and the palace which spoke Yoruba was a city on its own with over 50 thousand people who were all Yoruba speakers in the past. The edo lived in the suburbs. |
Re: Benin Was A Yoruba speaking Empire. by Etinosa1234: 4:11pm On May 24, 2020 |
lawani: Judge urself..what u wrote...is it reasonable.. How will the original citizens of an established kingdom be relegated to suburbs while foreigners be working in the palace.. Are u implying that the oba and his chiefs who were obviously speaking Benin were surrounded by Yoruba speakers... Don't u think a coup might have happened if ur story is true
