hotwax: China is pretty much a dictatorship and most Arabian countries are either theocracies or dictatorships that want to keep their people docile and misinformed. These are the same countries Trump has insulted time without number for oppressing their people yet here you are using them to defend Trump's actions. You are massive contradicting yourself, Trump supported Twitter until he broke the rules now he wants to silence them for enforcing their own rules. You still haven't answered my question, would you support this action if Buhari was doing it for nairaland? 8 Likes 1 Share |

hotwax: Don't mind those guys up there. They pretend not to see that social media is very baise. Do you know that about 300 Trump campaign videos were pulled down from YouTube early this month? What for? So his campaigns also violates their stupid law? When you make certain posts that show the truth, Facebook will block you or fact check you. But they will never fact check CNN and their fake news shared by supporters. I've seen various dehumanizing and twisted posts about trump, including memes and all on Facebook. None were fact checked. But the minute you put the truth out there, fact check. What Trump has done now is to make social media platforms responsible for user's posts. In other words, if you must fact check my post, ensure you fact check the opposition's post too. But trust some Nigerians not to understand anything. 3 Likes 1 Share |

hotwax: Not only not to censor people's posts. If you must fact check on Mr A's post then you must equally fact check on Mr B's post otherwise you can be sued. Imagine people are here comparing it with General Buhari's government intent on gagging and controlling social media. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Farki: Trump has been fighting Twitter since 2016. Get that into your head. TRUMP HAS ATTACKED them as tool of the leftist in the past. Maybe u need to read his posts in 2016 2017.. European Union is not autocratic or theocratic, yet they are boxing Twitter. Twitter is not holy heaven. They have political alignment. One of their investor is a Democrat donor. So trump know who is fighting. You people don't know what is going on. Twitter staff who is in charge of fact checking trump has twitted insult at Trump in 2018. What is going on is political war. Don't take side. Stay out of it ofcourse except if u support Democrats. But if u are a neutral, stay out of it so God will not punish you for ignorance 2 Likes 1 Share |

Farki:Obviously you don’t understand this bill. Where did you read he wants to silence them. Trump is accusing them of selective censorship, since there’s a disclaimer already stating this platforms are not liable to posts on their platform why censor and at worst censor selectively. How’s this censorship. He just wants to make them liable now so that when people post things you don’t like on their platform and they fail to delete it in a stipulated time you can sue them. Not the selective deletion they do and I support it cos Nairaland is equally quilts of this. 1 Like 1 Share |

hotwax:people call him orange head, if you fact check that such posts should be deleted cos he doesn’t have a orange head but it stays. You call him racist on Twitter it stays twitter doesn’t fact check. But when he fires back you want to fact check cos Trump is the only one that drops propaganda on Twitter. Buhari people are just dull I swear. 1 Like 2 Shares |

Business gone wrong between 2 individuals will now become international war. Thats why its not gud to take side. 1 Like 1 Share |

kokaneprodigy: You can also read provision 2 of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. (2)Civil liability No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be held liable on account of— See how it contradicts with this? When an interactive computer service provider removes or restricts access to content and its actions do not meet the criteria of subparagraph (c)(2)(A), it is engaged in editorial conduct. It is the policy of the United States that such a provider should properly lose the limited liability shield of subparagraph (c)(2)(A) and be exposed to liability like any traditional editor and publisher that is not an online provider. Meaning that all websites not just Twitter and Facebook are liable for what people say on their website because removing comments that infringe on the site rules are 'editorialising'. He views private companies like Facebook and Twitter as government entities It is the policy of the United States that large online platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, as the critical means of promoting the free flow of speech and ideas today, should not restrict protected speech. The Supreme Court has noted that social media sites, as the modern public square, “can provide perhaps the most powerful mechanisms available to a private citizen to make his or her voice heard.” But the first ammendment specifically says that free speech laws apply to the government not private entities. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. When Trump signed up for Twitter he agreed to their rules. Trump can say whatever but Twitter also has the right to moderate their websites. So now tell me, if Buhari wanted to pass a law making nairaland liable for the comments of it's users because it enforces it's rules and thus could be prosecuted for such would you support it? Because that was what the defeated social media bill was proposing. 4 Likes 1 Share |

kokaneprodigy: The bill is stupid because then Twitter is being punished for what the users said. If you have a problem take it up with the user. Would you sue a paper company for the words of a book writing slander against you? How will this work when a large number of users are bots or troll accounts? |

hotwax: Trump only started attacking them when he was breaking terms of service and posting lies. The EU laws are about consumer data protection and invasion of already existing privacy laws not about speech. Trump has also insulted American citizens, law makers and soldiers I don't see you complaining about that. Trump continues to break twitter rules yet his comments are not removed or moderated due to the nature of his office. He has been given more than enough concessions but he isn't satisfied. How can this be political? Trump is purposefully manipulating the laws to prevent others from criticising him. Your bias and ignorance is overwhelming. 4 Likes |
