Madam Ngozi is not an Igbo woman, but was married by an Igbo.
Her tribe is Niger delta.
PERIOD!
So her children are deltans by birth or Igbo? As a legally married woman she's now Igbo. So stop all this yeye analysis.

and what did this Amina do as Environment minister? zero, but she still receive a bigger position. quid pro quo

Modikko:
Educate yourself Man. Government cannot appoint everyone no matter how good the person is. There are other people who are as good as Madam Ngozi but prefer to play on the International scene. Amina J Muhammad resigned as Minister for Environment to become UN DSG, if you now what that is

Adesina is busy causing trouble. Adesina just throw all the former African presidents under the bus for his unethical behaviour. they have to support him to prevent america from trying to control the bank.

I think we have others beside Okonjo.

Nyanabo:

So far as she is human she can't. I'm not saying she is 100% or a thousand percent. All I'm saying is she is the best we've got that's suitable for the job at least for the time being.

Why is it that it's other people who values things that's under our nose ? We attach no value to them until other people starts appreciating them for their works. I remember Mr. Adesina when he wanted to run for the presidency I'd of the AFDB back in 2015 he didn't receive full support. But now see the exploits he is doing on the continent. Until recently his person wasn't questioned.

Kudos to the president for this kind gesture. At least, Igbos can now let us rest on this forum. Those among them praying for the downfall of Adesina simply because he’s from the south west can now get preoccupied with praying for their Igbo daughter’s success.

I can also bet nobody will talk about nepotism on this thread. The fact that the president withdrew support from Yonov Agah, a Nigerian from the north central and now supports an Igbo lady should not go unnoticed. If it was the other way round, the fury of hell fire would be a child’s play to what they would bring down tonight. I wish her the best in the election.
Stop that lie! No Igbo prays for the downfall of Akinwunmi Adesina. Igbos gave him a very big support when he contested for it.

He was probably advised by Gambari that Yonov Agah isn't that popular to clinch the post, and that he should nominate Iweala instead.

The withdrawal of Mr. Agah's nomination is in my opinion, a wrong decision influenced by local politics. Mr. Agah who joined the WTO since 2005 as Nigeria's Permanent Representative and later appointed a Deputy Director-General is an insider, and can be trusted and supported by colleagues to reform the WTO. His nomination received overwhelming support within the WTO and the General Council, a body he chaired while serving as Nigeria's Ambassador. May Nigeria not suffer the consequences of this political decision.

Nepotistically, he could still have damned it all and support the candidature of the current deputy DG of the organization. You cannot be coming up with excuses such as this when the president appoints or support an Igbo for an important position then turn around and accuse him of nepotism when he appoints or support Nigerians from other regions into positions. It smarks of hypocrisy.

Pls leave these hypocrites. It's a disease of hatred, more deadly than cancer.

Guy! There's something you guys don't understand. This is an international appointment that has to do with strong representation. Participating countries will send reputable candidates with a strong background in international politics, economics, and diplomacy. Quota system and nepotism don't abound in issues like this. Nigeria needs her wealth of knowledge and experience in gravitating through favorable international trade policies. Based on her stint in the world bank, she's even more qualified than every candidate in Africa right now.

Ist only Ngozi that can do it the whole of Nigeria?

Which 1 is the quota system? The current United Nations President of the general assembly is from which state? Let me educate you in case you don't know, he is from Sokoto.

United Nations deputy sec gen is from Gombe.

Had Buhari decided to nominate someone else, you guys will still cry.

This is one of the many reasons Nigeria is not united because bigotry and nepotism runs deep across all sectors of the nation's. Everyone os fighting for his pocket. Nothing else matters. How can such country grow? Indeed we are the Sleeping Giant of Africa.

so after 5 years of Buhari's lopsided appointment favoring the north - na now you wake up abi? INTERESTING!

Okonjo-Iweala currently chairs the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), a public-private global health partnership with the goal of increasing access to immunisation in poor countries.

She also sits on the board of Twitter and is a former managing director (operations) at the World Bank.

On March 7, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa appointed her a member of the country’s economic advisory council.

A month later on April 10, Kristalina Georgieva, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), named Okonjo-Iweala a member of the fund’s external advisory group.

Okonjo-Iweala is one of the four special envoys appointed by the African Union (AU) on April 12 to mobilise international support for its efforts toward addressing the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2012, she contested to become World Bank president becoming the first female and first black candidate.

She was listed among one of the top 100 most powerful women in the world by Forbes four consecutive times from 2011 to 2014. She was also listed as one of the top 100 most influential people in the world by TIME magazine in 2014.

Guy check her qualifications and achievement above thus far. If I should ask you again, who in Nigeria can favorably compete with her internationally?

She is still disposable. There are always alternatives. Had Buhari nominated somebody else you would have wail that he has chosen someone despite Ngozi profile.

Well, personally I wont envy the next DG of WTO....
America has threatened to pull out of WTO, if china's status as a developing economy is not reviewed.....
I'm not really sure how much of help the status of developing economy offers china, but I agree its a disservice for china to claim it's still a developing country.....
Angah is an insider and I'm not convinced he has the courage to muster the reform that WTO really needs....
WTO needs an outsider to reorganise the institution and ensure its relevance in this globalisation era.....

Even Buhari knows that appointment in WTO is for technocrats with astute qualities and not a place of mediocrity and quota system.

As the president of the federal republic of Nigeria, he knows that there's no other person in Nigeria who's best suited for the role other than the person of Ngozi Okonjo Iweala.

Nigeria has a lot to gain having a woman like Ngozi Okojo Iweala with her vast knowledge in international economics at the helm of affairs of WTO in terms of favourable balance of payment in international trade.

So my brother just take a chill pill and relax.

I am not against Igbo neither her appointment. Infact I support it, but what I don't like is your attitude (Igbos). If Buhari chooses her because of competence, then it's a good thing.

But rather than welcome the news in positive light and wish her success, you guys be like "it's because there's no other option bla bla bla." Always viewing things from the negative side. Common.
