the AIMS professional exams.

B) The AIMS professional exam takes place in March/
September each year in several cities around the world. If
are successful in this exams, then you are ready for STEP 4

Are you a medical lab scientist? You should be familiar with the commonly used textbooks if you are and lab tests are not learnt from reading books but clinical training. Books aid as a guide

Check the Australian permanent resident thread on travel section and read from page 1 to understand how it works first. Then follow the process outlined there, it is self explanatory, there are some medical lab scientist that have done it and gotten to Australia already like Bellong, Expereince4u, Oknee etc
Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by Scholar212(m): 3:24pm On Jun 10, 2020
So far Australia seems to have the only straightforward path to practice as a medical Lab scientist. US and UK do not have straight path except maybe you go there for postgraduate studies and pursue your residency from there.

For UK i disagree. It's not as lengthy or capital intensive as that of USA and Canada. For Canada after all the paperworks that lasts months you will still have to go there to write exams that has a terrible pass rate.
UK hcpc reg quite straight forward I believe.

UK HCPC is not difficult but it does not give you any Visa approval to stay in the country like the Australia, Canada skilled workers pathway. Even if you are registered with HCPC as long as you are not resident in UK getting a Job is very slim and you Hardly have employers that will be willing to sponsor someone offshore like they do for nurses

UK HCPC is kinda easy , but the funniest thing is that even if you're resident in the UK without any UK NHS accredited Laboratory experience, getting a Job will very tough
The tricky aspect is that, how do one have work experience without being employed? Then one needs to volunteer , 2-3 days per week in a lab.

This takes us to the solution you proffered(Postgraduate route)

Good afternoon everyone. I am a biochemist, please how do I get filled in to this mls stuff? I have found that mls has more prospects than biochemistry in Nigeria. My aim is to migrate out of Nigeria as a professional worker and I believe mls can grant me the chance. Do I need to write a professional course?

In Nigeria your only option is to go back to school through a DE program and start from 200level. In my set we had many people with first degree in BCH, MCB etc it is never too late.

Yes I agree with you. In my own opinion, going to the UK to study Masters of public health will give an individual a broad range of opportunities to chose from. With your Bmls you will be eligible for laboratory jobs and with your MPH you will be eligible for public health jobs too. So instead of a Nigerian medical lab Scientist to go study Msc biomedical Science in the UK I think an MPH will be better. I stand corrected though.

I quite disagree. Getting Msc biomedical Science in IBMS accredited University will give you an egde in your job portfolio progression. UK unlike Nigeria, needs you to continually take some exams and programs to progress in your profession

Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by Scholar212(m): 6:43pm On Jun 13, 2020
Our fellow MLS that have migrated and are practicing, please you guys can give us hints. Ease of getting job with your naija experience, if you had to do some training or schooling first, pay in comparison to other health workers there and cost of living, major difference on how labs there are run and here. I think I can only remember those in Australia, please we need your input, we know you have given general life experience on the various migration thread but just snippets into professional career. Cc Experience4U, Bellong, Oknee, Mamabigboy, those that just got grant and not yet on the other side apologies you can give update later. Thank you

Yes the connection factor is there, but there are still merit lists. I dont want to believe everything is about connection. Prepare well, write exams (in many states), pray and be hopeful. If you score well in your exam I doubt you'd be overlooked cos of influence. Just do your bit and remain hopeful.

Did you try checking the school website? I think that's where you can get a reliable information on this.
I only know of Rivers State University. where I did my first degree.
