The basic relationship between a landlord and a tenant is a pure business relationship. The landlords demand prompt payment of rent and obedience to rules and regulation. Housing is a business and should be treated as such.No sane landlord will maltreat his tenant because he(the tenant) is a customer. Some tenants are landlord somewhere while some landlords are tenants somewhere. There are some bad Landlords but Many bad tenants.

One land lady in Ibadan (July 2013) asked me to pack out of his house around 9pm in the night because my roommate didn't informed him that he is traveling and I will be staying in his place, he is my colleague at work and re-signed before his tenure expires, so I was already thinking of retaining the house due to proximity to work.
Thank God I didn't.
I just called my parents to bring there car to the place, about 35minutes drive.
While I use delayed tactics to pass time till they arrived.
I now live in my house. But since then I can't rent any house that the landlord or landlady lives in.
I believe I have paid you for your house for the tenure.
So I technically own the house (with condition not to damage it).
But landlord/landlady no dey agree with this, they will still have underlying preference for your lifestyle after accepting your money. You will enjoy a house without a landlord or landlady than I house with one no matter how nice or God-fearing the owner is. We are all human.

She couldn't understand that trick until when we are not around one day, she told someone about it and that person help her to on the meter, when we came back we where so annoyed that we have to off the meter again, that is how wahala begins, she suddenly went to community the following morning to tell them she no longer want us in her house, thank God I have been packing gradually to my site without informing anybody, the community summoned us and I said no problem I will leave, others too agreed to leave she wasn't expecting that reply from us, she thought we will be pleading,so that she will henceforth have dominion over us.Others said they will leave until she pays for their prepaid light, that was how I remember I am the one that pass Light into the house, i told my fellow tenant that I will be going in 2 weeks time and I will remove all the wires in this house, others supported the idea and we seal it. The day of operation, I have packed all my things before, I have to come back to remove all the wires at night with one electrician, one of the tenant called me that she is already sleeping that I should start coming, I remove it from the pole, the ones on the facing board down to the prepaid . It was a shocker, there was light that night but she thought nepa took the light, my fellow neighbors told me how she was in shock and serious problem the following day, she was lamenting that she didn't plan for all this kind of expenses . she is not a good mother because she doesn't care if we have where to go or pack our things, she shaa want us out immediately, that's why we treat her fuckup.

Did you stay in the house for a day longer than you paid for? if so, you are a cheat and a thief. It is very simple.

If you are honest, you would have packed out the exact day your rent is used up. Or any additional money you paid that you think is not justified is used up. However, you did not even have shame but was bragging you stayed in somebody's house without paying?

I'm really angry now because have paid and packed in after suffering searching for house over a month and wasted alot of money on agent dues and transporting different agent from one location to another. When I was showned the house they assured me there's water and it was locked from the back.. When I complained the landlady said I should go buy drum that even her uses drum for storage of water. Though the rooms of the house are big, that was what attracted me that atleast I could use for my work as well. But that baggage de disturb me and the gate is been locked so early.

tell that to the law that punished her, we all make choices, the consequences is far reaching than we think, was it my making that the same law she wanted to unruly use against me will backfire on her and made it worse for her? Telling her to pay the outstanding bills plus mine as I stay for two more years cos of her lies and antagonist behavior towards me as compensation for the unlawful attempt to evict me and stressing me, that's what the law did, call the law a cheat then.

You call it bragging, hmmm, if you're a landlord take note from my experience not to mess up with innocent tenants cos the law could end up ruining you, be honest with your tenants, just do your part and the law will side you, have honest and competent lawyers not the ones that want to chop ur money fooling you to take legal action against someone who has done no wrong whereas you're the offender,or you may end up worse than that landlady.

Years ago Our landlady wants us to do all her bidden. She Wants to be sending us, making us help her fetch water etc.
When we prove Stubborn she was telling us to leave the house if we are tired. When it remaining only 2months for rent to expire

Most landlords will kick against payments in piecemeal. It is even usually in your agreement that you will pay at least yearly, and it will be a breach of agreement if you do otherwise.

The more responsible thing to do is to set aside the monthly rent from the onset and invest in a financial instrument. By the end of the year, the investment should have accrued an interest of at least 5%.

This way you will kill 2 birds with one stone - paying your rent in line with the agreement and getting the money to work for you as well.

Hmmm, nawa o I have not experienced such a thing before, where I stay in school (off-campus) I pay 80k , self-contained . Failure to pay ur rent after 1 month grace, the Lawyer will come and lock up ur lock that's all. My lodge sef na 2 storey building,I stay on the first floor, I always mind my own business, I don't enter anybody's room,and no body enters my own.if we see for road we go greet. Over familiarity breeds disrespect.
Landlord doesn't even stay with us,
If u need peace of mind , never rent an apartment where the land lord or land lady lives in ... To avoid their wahala.
