Three PDP Aspirants Refuse To Step Down For Obaseki by Penaldo: 10:41am On Jun 22, 2020
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has so far failed to convince the three aspirants on its platform, to step aside for Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, ahead of their primaries, ThisDay reports.

Gideon Ikhine, Ogbeide-Ihama and Kenneth Imasuagbon are the three men that were screened and cleared by the party for the primary.

However, Obaseki’s decision to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for PDP, has changed the complexion of the game.

Obaseki defected to the opposition party along with his deputy, Hon. Philip Shuaibu.

The PDP primary was initially scheduled to hold last weekend, but has now been postponed until tomorrow, because of the new developments.

Ahead of Tuesday’s primary, Obaseki has met with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state; Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Aminu Tambuwal and the Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike, to strategise on how to get him the ticket.

It is understood that a meeting that held Saturday night between key PDP leaders and the three governorship aspirants ended in a deadlock.

Imasuagbo, Ogbeide-Ihama and Ikhine have so far refused to be yield to pressure from every quarter.

“Yes, there is pressure from them. But it is not about pressure, but about doing the right thing in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, due process and the Electoral Act.

“It is disappointing and a big shame in Edo State and the entire nation and it portends danger for the country and the party. Nigerians should rise up against what is happening. We are not in the jungle; it is not a do-or-die affair, but about the process. It is totally unacceptable,” Imasuagbon said.

Why should they step down for him? Obaseki has two heads or what? Obaseki want to be governor and they want to be governor. They should all contest in a free and fair primary election and the winner should be the party’s candidate. Telling others to step down is undemocratic.

If we are going to progress as a nation and improve our democratic processes, we need to start strengthening the internal democracy of our political parties. Political parties cannot throw up the best candidates if we keep manipulating the system to favour vested interests. General election is merely to fulfill all righteousness since the political elites already rigged the party primary against popular candidates.

It is a democracy. Nothing strange in their decision. It is left to the electorate on the day of the primary to make their choice out of the lot of them, which one gives PDP the best opportunity to win the election.

Clearly Governor Obaseki with the momentum and groundswell of support amongst Edo electorates offers the best odds for PDP amongst them all presently and the smart money is on his emergence as the PDP candidate & eventually Governor of Edo State.

All na initial shakara before money changes hands. The right price would do it.
PDP knows that Obaseki would be their best bet to finally unseat the APC

Obaseki should leave no stones unturned in matching Oshiomhole and Kabaka devilry for devilry.
No one is a monopoly of political thuggery.

Once Obaseki steps up his compensation package for them and get to promise them some juicy incentives including contracts should he be re-elected, they will step down for him. Those 3 guys have planned how to cash out big o, so nobody should rush them

Good decision. PDP should conduct a free and fair primary election, that's their only chance of winning this election. Obaseki doesn't particularly have a good record in Edo state.

Good people, please go through this thread. I need your advice/suggestions.

There is no way three of them will win the primaries. One winner must eventually come out.

And non of this three is popular enough to stand against Pastor Ize Iyamu

Why won't they just allow their selfish interest not ruin your party's chance of taking over Edo State?

Hallams:
Lol. We all know how it will end. They will still step down

And if they don't, what would Obaseki do? Decamp to NCDC party?

What most of you don't realize is that those telling them not to step down are bigger than Obaseki.

And the son of a prophet prophesy once again. It will be difficult to ask those in PDP to step down because that is where the main election is. The winner of the PDP primary is the governor-elect. It is worthy to note that APC has no valid candidate.
Take this to the bank.

For those of you who support one useless party or the other ask yourself why an enemy from another party will join them and all of a sudden the angels and best men for the job which pdp has been pushing to it's stupid supporters are suddenly asked to quit the race. The day you supporters of one party or the other realise that these people you are carrying on your heads do not send you then you'll have sense.
