Yes, I have.

One option is: the couple get pregnant naturally and an amniocentesis test (chorionic vili sampling) is carried out while she is still pregnant to screen for sickle cell. If the foetus has the disease it will be aborted. Unfortunately, the testing process itself could lead to miscarriage

Second is: IVF with PGD(pre genetic testing). You should already know how IVF works....but before the embryos are transferred they are screened for sickle cell disease and only embryos that are free of the disease will be transferred to the woman. There's a possibility that all the eggs harvested during one procedure will have the disease and there'd be no embryos to transfer. On the other hand, you can be lucky like the couple I know and have 2 good embryos to transfer at once and have twins. IVF is a 75% chance of success but PGD for sickle cell disease might reduce the chances

But it's still better than having a sickle.cell baby

Thanks alot.....d explanation is straight forward..... Thank you

Rh+ man can marry Rh- woman. If the woman gets pregnant and the foetus she is carrying is Rh+, all she needs is Rhogam injections after giving birth.

Thank you very much biby

Too bad you meet the perfect partner and something as simple as genotype becomes an obstacle, quite painful...

RHESUS FACTOR INCOMPATIBILITY -- A LEADING CAUSE OF MISCARRIAGE!
(MUST READ)

Rhesus Factor is an antigen that exists on the surface of red blood cells in most people (about 85% of humans). It is also referred to as Rh Factor. People who have the Rh have “positive” (+) blood types, such as A+, O+ or B+ are said to be rhesus Factor positive, while those who have the Rh “negative” (-) blood types, such as A–, O– or AB– are said to be rhesus factor negative . The “+” and “-” in front of the blood group is the Rhesus factor. Generally, we have A+, A–, B+, B–, AB+, AB–, O+ and O–. Rhesus factor is genetic in nature. It is inherited from the parents, emphatically the father.

How does Rhesus Factor cause miscarriage?

If a Rh– woman is impregnated by a man with Rh–, there wouldn’t be any problem. However, if a Rh– woman is impregnated by a man with Rh+, there would be a problem if the baby inherits Rh+ from the father . We have here what is medically called Rhesus Factor Incompatibility. The baby would obviously be Rh+. During child birth, once the baby’s Rh+ comes in contact with the woman Rh- during delivery, the antibodies are immediately activated by the woman’s body’s immune system.

The activated antibodies would see the new Rh+ as foreign body or a threat and consequently they would be at alert to attack and get rid of the foreign body. Unfortunately as such, after this particular child birth, the woman would keep having miscarriages because the activated antibodies would see subsequent Rh+ pregnancies as foreign bodies and would keep fighting and taking them off.

Women with Rh activated antibodies are said to be Rh sensitized and once these antibodies are activated , they can never be deactivated until the woman dies. Rh induced antibodies are activated in a Rh- woman by child birth, abortion, miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy.

If a Rh– woman commits an abortion for a Rh+ man and the antibodies are activated in her system, the woman might end up childless throughout her life except if she later marries another man with with the same Rh–. The possibility of a Rh– woman finding a Rh– man is slim as about 85% of human beings are Rh+. This is a warning to our young girls who commits abortions all in the name of boy/girl relationships.

If you’re a woman with Rh– and your fiance is Rh+, and you haven’t committed abortion for him and you don’t want to leave him, then, you need to take note of the following:

In order to prevent the activation of the antibodies, doctors would give women in this category an injection called Rhogam during and after pregnancy to prevent spontaneous abortion due to Rhesus factor incompatibility. The injection is normally administered 28 weeks into pregnancy, 72 hours after delivery, after ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage or abortion. If the injection is not administered and the antibodies are activated, they would never be deactivated again!

In many African cultures up till today, women who are so unfortunate to find themselves having serial spontaneous abortions due to Rhesus factor incompatibility are considered witches by some of their people. Some of the women would accuse their in-laws of being behind their predicament.

So, if you’re a woman with Rh– , you need to be very careful. It might be difficult for you to get a husband with a Rh– because about 85% of human beings are Rh+. So, in order not to find yourself in the aforementioned problem, put all that have been said at the back of your mind and go for genetic counselling. If you have a daughter or a sister with Rh–, counsel them on Rhesus Factor Incompatibility and the dangers lying therein.

It should also be noted that a Rh– person(man or woman) cannot receive blood donation from a Rh+ person even if they have the same blood group. The consequence of such blood transfusion is fatal. It would lead to death as the blood would clot. This is due to the incompatibility in their Rhesus factor.

Know your Rhesus factor today!

I can relate with this issue. To get a good person is a challenge, To get a compatible partner is a bigger challenge, then the process is truncated suddenly by something that's not within either party's control. Thank God that I eventually met my wife.

I do ask from the onset of the relationship. I have had two ladies I met where by they were AS just like mine. I pick race, as i no fit shout. Meeting a lady for couple of times, I could tell or guess her genotype if she complains of catarrh, malaria etc to often. Who love helps if one fails to do the right thing. The love go clear when the crisis set in.

My wedding was cancelled 5 weeks to the day because of genotype. It wasn't easy to accept it but still I moved on
==========
I did genotype about 9yrs ago, I was given AA result. Based on that, I got engaged to my intending partner who's AS. It was even mere coincidence that made me did it again and discovered I was AS. I did it again 5 times in 5 different places but still AS, meaning the first result was wrong. We had to call off the wedding despite the insistence of my in-laws and my fiancé on going ahead. We told them we believe in destiny and fate but we can't go ahead with the marriage. They were angry but later reasoned with us
Exactly my experience .
Checked mine in 2011 and the practitioner there told me is AA , only to discover two months ago that am AS after I rechecked it cause I needed to keep the result as an evidence since I don't have it with me.

Don’t blame them. Getting a good partner is hard, now adding another variable (genotype) makes it harder. I understand you though. The way they quickly ask could be “scary”.
When I was dating one of my ex that was so desperate to marry me, we had issues, he got angry and said the reason why he is tolerating me is because I am AA, that he has met very classy and rich babes that want him to marry them but they are AS, that alone was a red flag for me, I left him happily.

Please i need help on this when i was born in port-harcourt one doctor told my mum that she's really lucky we are all AA,me being the last born.

Then when i was 21 years old i tried it again at one teaching hospital in kano state and i came out AS......

Now the question here is it that genotype changes with time or an error.

Yeah and I never stopped regretting it. We both are AS, we agreed to get married after my graduation. I came back from NYSC while he insist on coming for my introduction not withstanding my health situation at that time. It was then I realized that we both are AS, I refused to marry him. This guy practically worshipped the ground I stepped on. He refused to understand, I already have such a case, one of my aunt married AS, her kids are all sicklers. I can't punish my kids like that. Long story cut short, he is married now with 2kids, I am still here waiting and looking up to God. Though we are still friends, but I lost a good man and I doubt if I will ever fine a man that will love me like him.
u should have married that man...there would always be a way out...

A B O - the three major blood alleles we have
rhesus refers to the negative or positive signs attached to the blood groups. so, there are eight blood groups namely
A-, B-, AB-, O-, A+, B+, AB+, O+.

O- blood group is a universal donor. It contains antibodies and no antigen. It can only receive blood from O- only. Agglutination or death may occur if otherwise.

O- blood group is said to be traced to the blood line of Jesus.
luckily, most people who recovered from covid-19 are O pos or neg... that's BTW

when an O- woman mates an O+ man, there is a high chance that her baby might be O+. if she's oblivious of this rhesus ''fact'' and she gives birth, and there is a blood mix, she may become sensitized ( this means, her body's antibodies will see a zygote as a ''virus'' or an intrusion, and will destroy any other zygote) if she didn't take the Rhogam shot possibly at the first trimester and 72hours after delivery. Rhogam should be around 18k per shot, and, you're going to need (possibly ) more than three shots.
I hope this helps u. sorry for any error

I'm B RhD+ve with AA genotype.

Wifey is O RhD-ve with AS genotype.

We had our daughter in 2018 and I paid and booked for the Rhogam Anti-D injection two months to the DD cos it must be given not later than 72 hours after delivery.

It cost 35k as at then.

UPDATE:

We took our daughter for genotype and blood group test today.

Her genotype is AA and blood group is O+ve.

The result is a huge relief to us cos we don't want any incompatibility issues for her.
