So it depends on your role though.
Some contract staffs earn more than some staffs of the banks.

Some are direct contract, especially if you are skillful. You can arrange a direct contract if your boss likes you.

But if you are teller at the bank, you might want to save enough to leave.

Hardly a career prospect.

P.S:
I am currently on a direct contract with a bank. I use to work with a firm but i got in direct because i have skills that my boss likes... By the way, i am in tech. and i earn more than a lot of full time staffs

Good Evening bro... Please, what are the relevant skills you gained that made you stand out.

I anticipate your reply. Thanks.

Hmmmm

It's a good thing u are'nt satisfied being a contract staff.
Even better u have an online biz as backup.

I don't know if u are the career type of person
OR
A business oriented person.

If u are business oriented person ask urself questions like :
1. Where do u see ur online business in 2-5yrs time
2. Are u ready to stick by the business no matter the challenge u face during the teething period?

If u aren't strong emotionally, going fully into ur business might bring regrets. And once u regret starting a business, it means u are left with zero zeal.

I personally chose business and investment over paid employment cos of my old age.
I will rather keep making money myself than waiting for stipends(pension).

But before u resign from ur job, kindly make sure ur online business is grounded and yielding exellent returns.
Online job with someone that is already working for over 12 hours daily?
Ogar bank work no be government work please ask bankers they will tell you more.

What is the online biz? I hope it's not Yahoo.

If your online biz is legitimate and can sustain you, why are you wasting your days building someone else's business?

Resign yesterday and put the work hours in your own business and grow it to the point where you become an employer of labour.

Leave immediately. Was once a contract staff with Oceanic then to Ecobank, speaking from experience. Imagine meeting 20people daily say from 8am- 4pm and selling your online business to them and compare it against working as a teller in the bank and counting people's money from 8am - 4pm on a regular. Brother, I tell u the truth, u would have made 300 calls by day 15 and prospectively converted some to sales that can pay u more than that 60k. I left d bank in 2015 and have not worked for any man save God, myself and my clients. I did a turnover of 21million in 2019 with 300% profit margin compare to the previous year. God punish corona virus in 2020 if not.

From the experience I have had in dealing with contract staff in the bank, I know they start out as very enthusiastic people but quickly get disgruntled when
1. They realise how much core staff are earning
2. They realise they do not have a clear cut career plan.

If you are taking up a contract job in a bank, don't stop your job hunt!
Use the opportunity to network with your customers.
Look at value chains within your customer base and position yourself to explore them.
If possible, work on additional qualification

@OP, no job is bad. Your job isn't slavery. You knew your salary and JD before you took the job. It is what it is.

If you see it as slavery, then that negative thought will lead to negative actions which will produce negative results for you.
Grow your online business and network with your customers.

I wish you the very best

From my experience; Better you quite at early stage before they stole your future from you. I worked Monday to friday in Victoria island as a contract staff earning below 60k. As ND holder I tried as much as possible to start my Degree in computer science which I finally graduated some years back. But during the period while I was working I can hardly thought of any other things to do with my life, because the work is overwhelming infact I go to office Saturday's if need be.. Please, I can never allow my enemy to work as a contract staff in banking industry. No benefit when you are leaving, your pension may be is 2k monthly multiply it by 10years self.. I have quite while am doing some professional courses now in IT to boost my career. Use your time wisely..
Have you obtained your University degree now?

Contract Staff in a bank is corporate slavery, i don’t know why our Legislators aren’t doing anything about contract job across various industries. If you are lucky to be in a bank that has transparent conversion process for contract staff and you fall within the required age limit according to their policy, then you may be among the lucky ones to be converted to core banking staff.
There is nothing the legislatures can do.
They will only make things worse.

But why are you laughing at another person’s mystery? For him to summon the courage to come public for advise, you can guess the kind of pain he’s going through in secret. Pls even if we can’t help people let our actions show that care about them. I am not picking a fight with you pls, just a note of correction. You might have to correct me tomorrow also.

I posted the that question because I know working for a bank has a prestige and may be one of the reasons the guy isn't decided yet.

The smiley is not to mock him. When you want to soften your hard advice, doing it with a smile takes away the sting of it while the point is driven in..

And if you cared to go through my post, my advice is stated plainly enough. So in fact I tried to care and help not ridicule him. grin

Do one year, learn financial mgt and networking then vamoose. Don't get caught in that trap of thinking they'll convert you to permanent staff.

Who's feeding you people with this tale ?
Ask any Uber /taxify driver paying weekly remittance if they're making 20k for themselves after all expenses. There are so many risk driving round Lagos not to talk of the daily struggle with LASTMA, VIO AND CBD BOYS.

Keep applying for other jobs. Do not settle in a job that makes you feel unfulfilled. Keep pushing while trusting God for the best. I taught in a school for 9yrs before I had my breakthrough, I'm much happier now even though I'm still pushing for more because I believe I deserve the best.

You have something doing and you are complaining. Do you know the respect that society gives you for having a verifiable job you do? And there is no way you can be a banker and have anytime for online business unless you are into bet9ja, Bitcoin etc which are not even reliable sources of income.

I know someone who was earning 30k a month in a microfinance bank and he got married with that salary and you are here talking nonsense as if you were forced to take the job.

Lazy and greedy youths of these days.

1. How old are u? Does your bank convert, and at what age?
2. Transfer to a cheaper state? Will your business model work outside lagos?
3. Tried using your work experience to apply for full staff in other banks?
4. Tried applying for other jobs in Lagos?

If you work in a bank, your biggest advantage is mixing with successful business folks. Adk questions. Find how you can do same business even on a smaller scale

dats not really easy as u say, I have gone into transportation business while working in an mfb though not full time but going to n fro work.

harassment from lasma paid 40k to bail my car once

police harassment at law school dat one I had to tell dem, if dey want me to go n steal or dey allow me do my hustle since it's not full time n dey can have my CV so dey get me a job n last last those guys were nice.

den agbero harassment

fixing of d car n maintenance is not really easy coupled with traffic.

I may not have done Uber but I drive a Sienna n I was forced to abandon d idea of transportation biz, it is a good business when there is no traffic n u can pick passengers frequently but with traffic it's a no go area
