It's time we begin the search for a real captain. Aubameyang for me is a designer captain, someone fashionable, like some celebrity kind of wife- what we need is a real housewife someone who can wash and cook. A captain that embodies the club in both soul and spirit. A Tony Adams. I don't mind if he is 17years old, as long as he is a true Gunner. Incidentally, Adams was a teenager when he began to lead during his time. |

Spy360: It is a disgusting mentality that is reflected on the pitch! There is absolutely no accountability or consequences and that is why players can give flimsy excuses after consecutive shows of shame, take pictures during training and then improve on the show of shame in the next game. It is like we are competing against ourselves on how worse we can perform in a loss. I hoped to see more accountability and discipline after Arteta took over especially since he was under Pep who is a renowned disciplinarian but it is just not showing! |

Roland17: Arsenak needs to be a home rather than a stopover park/busstop!!! See TAA, he will stay and retire at Liverpool. We can't even say same for our Youth...... Oh Iwobi was sent out cos twas juicy cash sef!!! See!! And so the club culture and unity that supposed to make warmth amd cohesion keeps getting low heat and coldfeet cos no one is there to tell the story See Jenkinson... Last of the 2013set. Sold off.... So an era just faded into oblivion... No continuity. If Saka see better club and better pay, we know say hin go japa. |

Nobody with such Away Form can/should play in Europe. See the Home and Away Table of the EPL at current standings Arsenal cannot even afford 2goals/game averagely at the Emirates this season A meagre 26goals in 15matches... Right at the Emirates. One wonders if the attack is so stunted to have such return. Oh and they conceeded 20goals at the Emirates. Okay.... Now see Away wins A Meagre 3 wins. If the road is an achilles heel, at least preserve the home pride like Man U is doing!!

Roland17:I will take it for granted that Arteta learnt discipline from Pep. His efforts alone will not be enough. Those giving out contract extensions to people like Luiz hours after a clownish performance are the ones spoiling things up. I don't care what it will cost, if by now Ozil can't get a first team shirt, he should be standing outside the gate not even upbthe corridors. If teenagers like Saka and Nketiah are fighting their lives out just to make an appearance, Ozil no matter how talented should be sacked immediately. In all, our board needs to take strong measures to drive a point. We need a captain that can demand strong reactions every time they step out into the pitch. These petting should stop. |

daveP:The bolded is so apt. When no senior player have any connection with the club, how can you convince the young ones to stay, or any new signing coming into the club that they should see that club as their home and not a stepping stone. No matter how Chelsea or Madrid are buying players anyhow, they still have Terrys/Lampards and Casillas/Ramos that have been in the club for a very long time. We, who do we have. Looking at things, it's like ozil is the oldest, and he's not even up to 8 yrs. And we even know who this ozil is in terms of attitude sef. 1 Like |

daveP: I don’t think keeping the core of your youth/ academy players is what sets you up for winning. While it is an efficient model that encourages identity, it does not necessarily guarantee success. More so, the culture of winning or accountability/ identity are not restricted to only young players from our academy because they can be transferred. Take Liverpool for instance, outside of TAA, mention another core player that was from their academy? They went out and got players that fit Klopp’s system and can imbibe the Liverpool culture and identity and today they are champions. The same can be said of our most successful teams. Keeping academy players who have stunted or not showing any promise is risky for both club and the player, I would rather send the player on loan to a team where he can get consistent minutes and that will help us in making decisions. Sometimes the patience is rewarded, other times it’s a waste of resources. 1 Like |

Spy360: And it has nothing to do with long term players, it’s more of experienced/ successful players who are committed to Arsenal. There are questions about Auba’s future and that even makes it worse. Take United for instance, getting Bruno was also intended to show Pogba that they plan to be competitive. Pogba is definitely enticed by Bruno’s signing and the possibilities of that combination if he stays and the results are evident on the pitch over the last 2 games. Pogba could care less about Rashford/ Martial/Shaw or any other long serving player, it’s about the quality and experience of the player who can influence his decision to stay, after all he was also an academy products before his move to Juventus. |

Roland17:But longevity is also an enviable quality. Players who stayed can encourage the younger ones to consider their future in the club. Losing Ramsey, Walcott, Iwobi and Giroud within a short space of time must have weakened the mindset of younger generations who looked up to them. I have noticed especially outside England that top teams keep a set of players long term without compromising their quality. Good signings yes, but a core needs to remain intact. Wenger once said adding more than 5 players to a squad no matter the quality can disrupt team bonding and rhythm. The club must ensure a core of Saka, Nketiah, Willock, AMN, Holding, Nelson, etc. Players who were brought up within the system are kept for a reasonable length of time. By the way, where is Wilshere? 1 Like |

Spy360: I don't think it is a problem of being able to transition to the first team from the academy because I think that is a huge part of our culture as a club. It is more so, developing to a level where you make/ complement the team enough to make us competitive to attract quality players. You already know how I feel about Saka and I agree with you about Holding and Nketiah. I personally think Nelson needs more game time for us to make a long term decision about him because I believe he has the skills, maybe not the dedication and attitude. AMN was dealt a bad hand with how we mismanaged his progression and Willock is one I struggle with and primarily because I think he is being played out of position. I agree, keeping the core of young players is important but I can not overemphasize the importance of getting good/ quality signings that can immediately impact the team. We desperately need to add the right players. I was disgusted with the extension for Luiz because there is absolutely nothing to learn from him, speaking from Saliba and Holding's standpoint! Ramsey, Walcott, and Iwobi had significant first-team exposure. Walcott spent 12 years with us, declined significantly in his last 3-4 years, and is still declining at Everton, in fact, before we knew what was going on, the man was going to hit 30. Ramsey spent 11 years with us, stagnated, and continues to stagnate at Juventus as he has not been able to get game time. Iwobi is a very difficult one for me and I am okay with him being sold only because he would have left for free and declined as he wanted to play from the middle. I think that shows that our players have been transitioning from the academy and we have had that consistency. Baba, no important player will make a decision to play for Arsenal because of Walcott, Ramsey, or Iwobi! You need to combine quality players, don't get me wrong, I am not saying get "breaking banks" type of players, a good talent that works hard, and has the quality to improve the team is what we need. I am happy you mentioned Wilshere, we spent a lot of time and resources in developing him but the man was too glass footed and immature to focus on his skills. The last time I checked he was languishing on WestHam's bench, other times he did not even make the team, and most times, he was out injured. 1 Like 2 Shares |

Spy360:I like what Arteta is doing of recent as regards discipline. Guen and Ozil get the axe. He needs to show these guys its business. But im against selling Guen. He can and will improve. As for Saka, the already acts like a 26years old player. Lol. Truly, no one can pause any decision to leave if he triggers it. |

Jodera:Ozil doesnt even command th3 dressing room or authority anywhere. Asides his introverted attitude. Now imagine the young ones actually look up to him. Theyll see nothing noteworthy to emulate. Kos fitted that role, but see how he slipped away. He left angry and with what he's done for Arsenal, i don't blame him. 10 of these youngsters, 8will depart before next presidential election. |
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by Spy360(m): 11:40am On Jun 27, 2020 |
daveP:Yes I believe Arteta is establishing a disciplinary culture. He must have gotten that trait from his mentor. I also know that as a player he was not joking with undisciplined individuals hence his choice as captain then. Keeping Saka for me is the most important business we must do this summer. Such talent cannot be affordable elsewhere. A player who can play comfortably accross the attacking third, plus he is so tactically adaptable. Imagine him playing AM Vs Brighton, off position yet he was our best attacking threat. The most unimaginable is that he is still in his learning phase. In two years time he would be worth more than Ozil was when he joined us. 1 Like |

Roland17:You've just broken every thing into pieces. I buy every bit of it. Wilshere is a bad example for keeping academy graduates, same as Walcott and co. But don't you think besides buying top quality we need to have a core intact? At least players who have spent not less than 6years together? The idea is to maintain certain team rhythm and connection. The successful Man Utd used to have the Nevilles, Ferdinand, Giggs, Rooney, Achilles etc. These never changed until that era phased out. Barcelona had Xavi, Iniesta, Busquet, Puyol, Pique, Alves, and Messi plus they kept Valdes who for me was average. I understand these player were quality, but they kept the sigma bonding of the team. Which for me is more important than mere individual quality. |

Spy360:Nwanne’m Xavi, Iniesta, Busquet, Puyol, Pique, Alves and Messi transitioned through the La Masia and became tremendous quality every team wanted. They were not mere/ ordinary players and that was why they became core pieces of Barcelona and Spain. Don’t forget Pique was sent out to Manchester United for a period to gain some valuable experience and that convinced Barcelona he was one for the long term. Since that core group, Barcelona have been unable to replicate that level of talent transition into their first team. Heralded talents like D. Suarez were sent to Arsenal, today he is at Celta Vigo, same for H. Bellerin, now I hear Arthur is being exchanged for Pjanic. Today, only Pique, Messi and maybe Fati are the academy players in the regular 11 and don’t forget Pique and Messi are both playing their last legs. If these guys, including the ones above did not have the quality to make immediate impact and make the team competitive, Barcelona would have not have kept them and made them core pieces all in the name of culture. I had been watching Saka for a year at the academy before he joined the first team, my receipts are littered in my previous posts. Like you said, we have to do everything we can to ensure he stays and part of that is surrounding him with quality players that can make an impact. Saka’s decision to stay will not be because of Nketiah/ Willock/ Nelson or any academy prospect that transitioned with him. He already knows this and that is why he is taking his time to make a decision. The other kids in the academy can see through the history of the club that there is an immense opportunity at Arsenal to transition into the first team if they work hard and retain their place can improve on their quality like Saka has done. I am all for keeping these kids but not just because they are Arsenal products and can continue the culture but because they will make us competitive against any team and will command a first team shirt if they leave for another team. It’s time for us to be pragmatic and stop being emotional about our young players. We have to patient but realistic about them also. |

BlueRayDick:I think that look means he wants to kick ball again. Perhaps he just realizes no ub is coming for him and he misses being at the centre doing better things. Once again, Arteta and the disciplinarian approach. Seems to be working. Oh, Son Hairstyle was called to a hearing, and he apologized for what he did at Brighton. Says he will love to stay at the club and win trophies. The axe is getting results. Thanks to Pep approach. I hope it brings results. |
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by daveP(m): 8:28pm On Jun 27, 2020 |
Roland17:Very valid. Academy boys get games as much as 60 in 2years is a bad sign for any club. Esp if they arent performing like TAA, Haaland, or others in their age bracket that approach the game with a lethal, mature mindset. The youngsters in the setup are too comfortable and then, not enough senior players to watch and pattern their mentality to. |
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by daveP(m): 8:33pm On Jun 27, 2020 |
Roland17:This barca example get as e be. They patterned their game mindset in the taka way and doing that together for years in such a way that these guys understood each other at a young age and with such a lethal tactic again. I watch and notice that Xavi doesn't look at where he passes many times yet he knows just who is there and when to pass. Arsenal are tryna do something of sort with Willock, Nelson and Smith.... I hope they stay together cos i dont have such great hope on the trio. By now, you'd have expected someone like Nelson or Willock to know how to blemd with Martinelli. But that doesnt seem to be the case. Hmmm |
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by daveP(m): 8:37pm On Jun 27, 2020 |
Spy360:Definitely. Besides Saka seems to understand Auba and Martinelli. This boy is really serious with his developmental abilities. The others.... Cant say same. Nice one from Arteta. I hope that middle gets quality that would power the club straight back to the UCL directly, not through any Europa. They can botch Continental showpiece and just focus on the EPL and domestic cups. That would be a phase that would help alot. |
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by Roland17(m): 11:02pm On Jun 27, 2020 |
daveP: My point exactly! Saka is investing a lot of work in the development of his talent, ensuring he is an impact player and the evidence is on the pitch for everyone to see. As for others, na touch and go.. you are not sure of what to see from Nelson, Nketiah, ANM or Willock on match day. |
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by Roland17(m): 11:04pm On Jun 27, 2020 |
daveP: Baba they did not sacrifice their ability to remain competitive for any of those players. Those guys earned their right to be core players because of the level of quality and impact they brought. Assimilating a system for such a long period is not easy and it only supports my thoughts about their level of intelligence and maturity. 1 Like |
