An explorer has unearthed an incredible set of photos he took of a meeting he had with an isolated tribe deep in the Ecuadorian rainforest the event being the first time they had made contact with the outside world.

The pictures belong to Dr Jack Wheeler, 76, who is originally from Southern California.

He told MailOnline Travel that he discovered the images on film slides while sifting through belongings in his loft during the lockdown and decided to get them digitalised.

The photographs, taken in 1972, show Dr Wheeler's 'truly extraordinary' meeting with a family within the 'Naked Auca' tribe after he touched down in dense Amazonian jungle in a small helicopter.

The Auca settlement as it appeared from Dr Wheeler's helicopter, with trees cleared around the main hut.

The tribe waves as they approach their settlement in their helicopter.

A grandmother was captured clinging to a magazine Dr Wheeler gave her.

The tribe had never seen paper before.

A local woman carrying her baby in a sling.

Dr Wheeler said: 'They showed not the slightest fear of or animosity towards us'
The tribes people looked at us and our helicopter like 'aliens coming from outer space'.

The tribes people had stretched ears with wooden discs in their lobes 'as a sign of beauty'

Dr Wheeler said the tribe were friendly and welcoming but he had been warned how dangerous they could be.

Dr Wheeler (left) with helicopter pilot Tony Stuart.

Tony revealed that he'd seen an isolated tribal hut after poor weather forced him off-course.

The pair then decided to investigate and land.

how could they procreate if the tribe was strictly women tribe?

The thought of a man walking in the midst of naked women is absurd.

The wooden stuff(disc as Explorer called it) is in their ear lobes and no they couldn't have fitted such large disc once.
Since the human ear(as well as the nose) continues to grow and never stops, what they'd do is gradually add different sizes of discs from young age, maybe a tiny one when the person isa toddler as the person grows more they remove that disc and insert a slightly bigger one, they'll continue that way till they get to that size you see in the pictures.

My only confusion is, since they've had no connections with the outside world before, how are/were they able to produce fabrics that they use? At least I can see some.

Definitely they don't have the technical know how as making fabrics isn't the same as making food and building shelter which are a lot easier

I envy these people. No problems that modern man has,
They eat Food that is for free no chemical preservatives, No Christianity to trouble them with one 'Guilt of sin's as Christians say. No Muslims also. No bad leaders. And
These tribes are protected than the citizens. Go to brazil. They are well catered for.
These people don't feel the pains of living modernized. They don't have to deal with Nepa power outages...

I don't blame the Sentinelese tribe. Right now with Covid-19 plaguing almost the entire world, the Sentinelese will not have to worry about getting infected. They will not have to worry about experiencing racism ever. They are living their lives jeje.

If Africa had not been infiltrated by Europeans, the quality of our lives would have been better today even if we may not have access to electronic devices. Just saying. See how happy the people in those pictures are. Their skin looks so smooth. No craw-craw.

You're right, their skin looks so good even though they are so unexposed, without any expensive cream. They also welcomed them warmly the same way every colonized nation welcomed the whites. Luckily for them, no more colonization.

I also say the same thing that we would have been better without the white man because you can't miss what you never had.
