CTV is in the south South with a subscription of #3000 flat for complete channels. Premiership, Spanish league etc. That equals to #20,000 plus sub on DStv yet DStv is busy employing thugs to destroy their facilities at midnight.

Let government deregulate Cable network in the country.

TSTV killed themselves. Government was ready to back them, even to the point of offering tax break for 5 years,

1.TSTV went and pirated BeIN signals.....nearly getting BeIN into serious legal and financial trobule.

2.TSTV came with promises they could not keep (like offering data with their decoder, like that' was going to happen. Not even DSTV offers data with decoder)

3.TSTV had weak offerings, apart from football. Nigerians don't get cable only for football.

Federal government gave them nothing...
1. They might have legal case with BeIN but wouldn't stop them from continuing their business.... I have done a similar business in electricity generation and am telling you from experience that Nigeria as a government hates innovation.... It scares them into thinking they won't be in control of the masses

This is not the first time we are hearing this and honestly we don't care. I'm sure nothing will be done by the time the DSTV drop some millions. To put an end to this monopoly, I believe we the subscribers have a lot to do. We could stop subscribing for a month to protest our displeasure to this endless increase in tariff. DSTV is so useless that even during the lockdown when service provider like MTN are giving 10 free SMS per day, DSTV can't even leave the basic Nigerian station like Channel and TVC when subscription expires. I believe we the subscribers are the only one who can break their monopoly and bend them to stop taken us for a ride. If we wait for the government that song will change when they are bribed, then we are in for long thing

Pay per view is what applies in most societies including in South Africa so why should it be different here?
That was how MTN said per second billing was not possible in Nigeria until Glo came out with same pay per second.

OK..here is what they were doing with BeIN...they were taking Bein signals and rebroadcasting them in Nigeria re Premier league and Champions league. Without paying for them...and because Bein was not authorised to broadcast premiership in Nigeria, or Africa , they were in trobule with the Premier league rights issuers.

Once upon a time , the cable sattelite company ABG was broadcasting premier league in Northern Nigeria until 2003, when DSTV took over. They had to stop.It angered a lot of people up Nwth, but that's just business.

I had no problem with the increased fee when I saw additional new channels but was disappointed when on 1st of July was told those addition channels were pop up channels and has been discontinued.

They were offer due to Corona pandemic, just like free SMS from Telcos.

Long overdue.

Pay per view can't work in a country that can't boast of at least 10 hours steady light a day. I wonder how our so called leaders think , if I was to be in their shoes I will move rather for a reduction in subscription fees to a reasonable price ,DSTV sub fee na big ripoff that way the investors and customers are both happy.

Don't say what you don't know oga. Hitv overpaid for epl and subscriber numbers could not make up the numbers. Suicide to try that especially when dealing with our high interest rate environment. Hitv should have done better strategic planning.

While football is important to me, that's not all I watch on dstv. Hitv had little else for most people.
