kikero: Federal government gave them nothing... 1. They might have legal case with BeIN but wouldn't stop them from continuing their business.... I have done a similar business in electricity generation and am telling you from experience that Nigeria as a government hates innovation.... It scares them into thinking they won't be in control of the masses 2 and 3 wasn't even the case because people was actually hoping on that promises.... So they haven't even started for you to prove they could not deliver to their promises 1 Like |

sexylassie2:So DStv should continue with the monopoly and effect changes as they wish? Pay per view is what applies in most societies including in South Africa so why should it be different here? That was how MTN said per second billing was not possible in Nigeria until Glo came out with same pay per second. Saying DStv sub in Nigeria is the cheapest in Africa is a big lie, i challenge you to provide proof to this. |

bigerboy200: You are right Sir. But, I think if care is not taken a different cable TV company will soon take over the Nigeria Tv rights. Nigeria is strong enough to invite the most strongest cable TV from, UAE (E-Vision), UK (Virgin Media) Germany (Bosch Telekom), Spain (Movistar+), USA (Optimum Cable Tv) etc If the govt listen to the pleas of Nigerians, then it could be a bye bye to the multi choice. 5 Likes |

jornwhite: LOL.. If government started paying for HiTV's Premier League bidding, when was it going to stop paying? Billions of dollars to HiTV so that less than 20% of the population can watch some English football on Saturday? In a country with a large population of poor people. Could GT bank have kept waiting for centruies for its loans to be paid? Shey you know why we had failed banks in the 1990's...because people did not pay back their loans to said banks. And they collapsed. And GT bank was one of the banks that survived that era where many of its contemporaries failed.... HiTV failed because they had poor content apart from football. Comapred to DSTV, their offerings were weak. As a result, not enough subscribers, and thus they fell down drastically. If you are doing business, by the time government comes to be bailing you out, wahala dey...both for you and government. Obama that bailed out car companies in the US, up till today people are still blasting him for it. 1 Like |

Fidelcashboy: Its about being objective and reasoning with a sound mind and applying basic economic and commercial principles. Not sentiment. People just can't reason here! Amazing how after we bash NASS for their corruption, you actually now think NASS has the masses at heart. Of all the issues we have DSTV is now the most important abi. So if DSTV paid $100m for license 3years ago when $1 was 360 and we are charged on that basis, can the price remain the same if $ is now 460?? Only an idiot won't appreciate that licenses are paid to Premier League in USD, not Naira. Its just basic sense guys! I keep saying that the problem with dstv, petrol, electricity, etc is because of our poor salaries ,not the pricing of these things. Because Nigerians are docile and won't stand up to the government to address the real issues, they fight tooth and nail for prices of everything to remain stupidly and unreasonably low. Face your government!!! 8 Likes 3 Shares |

Aduraworks: 9gerian: Baawahala: You guys need proper business education, DSTV is not a monopoly. You or your government are free to set up a new cable TV as a competitor but I guess you won't. You want someone else to risk their capital to invest and at the same time force them to lower prices for you. You can't eat your cake and have it. Friendly advice, if you don't like the price, stop using DSTV, it is not food or air. 6 Likes 3 Shares |

ezenwajosh: OK..here is what they were doing with BeIN...they were taking Bein signals and rebroadcasting them in Nigeria re Premier league and Champions league. Without paying for them...and because Bein was not authorised to broadcast premiership in Nigeria, or Africa , they were in trobule with the Premier league rights issuers. What kind of scamish behavior was that.(even unethical self) Once upon a time , the cable sattelite company ABG was broadcasting premier league in Northern Nigeria until 2003, when DSTV took over. They had to stop.It angered a lot of people up Nwth, but that's just business. 2 and 3 wasn't even the case because people was actually hoping on that promises.... So they haven't even started for you to prove they could not deliver to their promises OK...so how long should we have waited for them? If I was owning a shop and I was saying I am selling Corn flakes...and you come and I tell you 'Sorry, we don't have cornflakes, we will have it soon, and I cannot tell you how soon, but you can take this pack of Ogi/Pap instead...what would you think about my business.? Will you wait for me, or would you go to my competitior who is selling corn flakes ?? TSTV na scam company. 2 Likes |

On the contrary, since the beginning of the year, DSTV and GOtv has been offering Nigeria package upgrade i.e pay for a bouquet and get the next higher bouquet for free, though they just end the offer 30th of June. Dakad: 2 Likes |

Pay per view can't work in a country that can't boast of at least 10 hours steady light a day. I wonder how our so called leaders think , if I was to be in their shoes I will move rather for a reduction in subscription fees to a reasonable price ,DSTV sub fee na big ripoff that way the investors and customers are both happy. |

Ogbuu101: Don't say what you don't know oga. Hitv overpaid for epl and subscriber numbers could not make up the numbers. Suicide to try that especially when dealing with our high interest rate environment. Hitv should have done better strategic planning. While football is important to me, that's not all I watch on dstv. Hitv had little else for most people. 2 Likes |
