jornwhite: OK...let's look at it this way You want governemnt to pay $100million so that less than 4million out of 200million people watch football. Okay......great return on investment (lol). If HiTV had improved its non football content (like Startimes) maybe they would have still been here today. In business, when you compete, you have to offer better products than your competitiors. In South Korea, the government protected their domestic industries well. But in return those industries had to produce quality products. HiTV and TSTV were not producing qulaity, and HiTV after 3 years was still not doing well enough. |

kikero: I have been reading comments here and many of the posts are so annoying. You, just like several others who commented here, has a vested interest in DSTV. It is very apparent because you have strongly supported DSTV and giving all manner of support for them. It is evident that Nigeria is probably the most football (precisely premiership) passionate country in Africa. DSTV even acknowledged that Nigeria is responsible for a good percentage of premiership subscribers in Africa but pays almost the same amount as the rest of Africa combined! DSTV is a Shylock company that has reaped off Nigerians over the years, and they used marchiavelian ways to send competitors out of business. SA does not have a football (premiership) "crazy" population like Nigeria. Even though they have higher GDP per capita, that advantage is definitely outstripped by Nigeria having a population that is about 4 times higher and a more passionate football following. DSTV is so mean as a company that the margin of profit it allows dealers/agents selling their products is so little. Again, ask yourself, why would they increase their price astronomically at a time like this? A company came all the way from SA to fleece us with reckless abandon yet we have Nigerians supporting them!? Many of the comments here supporting DSTV with passion are from their employees, these ones are ready to sell their country just for the peanuts they are earning as salary. SMH! |

kikero: why use foreign paytv as reference, exchange rate even makes it inappropriate. i bought startimes around '10, around 2015 or so they introduced pay as you,and the price was so favourable to the subscribers. as low as #30 per day .. instead of having unnecessary channels adding to your bill you select your favourites channel n even pay less. 2 Likes |

proeast: Explain EXACTLY how we have been ripped off? Population 4times as much doesn't amount to subscribers as you have seen the subscription stats on this thread already. Explain exactly HOW we have been fleeced. Companies operate all over the world. Dstv have no reason why they cannot operate in Nigeria. All sentiments in this post with no objective and transparent analysis. 2 Likes |

kikero: All of these are systemic failures. Nigeria has a larger GDP than South Africa. If Nigeria had great leadership, it's per capita indices will be better corruption has ruined the proper distribution of wealth and industrial development. |

Crispels: South Africa has a lower GDP than Nigeria true but we have a population five times theirs.Tjus they have a higher per capita Also, Nigeria loves price controls, and lower prices which drives away investment in our power and petroleum sector and by extension weakens our industries. |

COMPAQ: Yes, a huge population that is equally passionate about premiership amounts much. Yes, we have been fleeced by a company that wants to monopolize premiership in Nigeria like it's their birthright. Why are they against competition? Why would a company increase its prices at a pandemic period like this? Why are they so mien to their agents/dealers that profit on their products are so little? Since they are claiming that football is so expensive that they can hardly break-even, then why not stop buying the rights and show other programs? |

thinkmoney: While electricity is an essential utility, cable TV isn't one. If you cannot afford cable TV via DSTV, port to another company. It's not by force. Special kudos to Kikero, honestly, you have done well especially as you aren't paid to lecture some humans who lack basic understanding of elementary economics. 2 Likes |

Crispels: This is a lie! For a country of more than 150M people having the highest number of poor people in the world, Nigeria is miserably poor. The country's economic growth rate hasn't surpassed 3% in FIVE YEARS yet population growth rate has increased by more than 3% annually. Compared to other countries of similar population (Brazil and Indonesia), Nigeria and the vast vast majority of her citizens are irredeemably and notoriously poor! 5 Likes |

[quote author=sexylassie2 post=91394659]Anti business Nigerian govt. Dstv subs in Nigeria are the lowest in Africa. So the only reason, they put the law was because of startimes a govt company. They want to collect things for free without paying. Socialist government, that is why this country will be forever poor.[/quote Well u r right tho but do u know the rate of rand to naira... Cheapest dstv service here in SA cost about 160rand, 160x22rand equals 3,648.67.. Now tell me how much is the cheapest dstv bouquet?? Also u need to consider the value of our currency.. There's no way we can be paying the same as South Africa and other countries whose currency by far outmatches ours |

livebullet: You don't understand how pay as you go works. Under pay as you go, you would be paying at least N1000 or more per premier league match you watch. Meaning in one month, you could be paying N8000 for 4 matches. Better read this article What they won't tell you about pay per view, then you will understand. |
