That Southampton game was an epic choke job by most of them and Oga Paulo was probably the biggest culprit.

The build up is slow mainly because of maguire’s slow passing. He always wants to trek with the ball into the midfield, maybe because he is scared of an interception. If you observe well, you’ll see that the speed of our attack increases after he passes the ball.

Sometimes I won’t blame him. Sometimes he’ll be approaching Shaw with the ball and Shaw will have acres of space in front of him and still he will stand where he is.

Maguire is slow, no debate. Just needs a faster CB to cover for him whenever he forays into the opponent’s half.

He needs to improve on his long range passes. Watching VVD, thread passes to Robertson and TAA is a joy to watch. He doesn't even need to step out of defense to do that

I think they do this normally. A local club I trained with back then did this, which is expected. The only issue is if those 2nd choice players can press like opponents would in real matches
