They say old traditions die hard.

One thing many out there don't know is the fact that the Scandinavians- biggest culprits being the Norwegians and to some extent, the Danes[who actually own the Faroe Islands]- are about the biggest whale and dolphin hunters in the world and it did not start today. We are talking about millennia upon millennia of ceaseless marine mammal hunting.

This is something that was handed down to them by their ancestors. It is an age-old tradition and it is so crucial to their diet and economy to the extent that they can't just put a stop to it even if people cry about it.

Like these guys hunt these creatures on an industrial scale. Norway even has a special territory in Antarctica where they do nothing but hunt marine mammals.

So, good luck to the animal rights activists because this is going to be a very long fight. The Faroese are not alone in this.

They will still have to tackle countries and autonomous entities like Iceland, Greenland, Japan, etc. It's big business. Japan kills about 1000 yearly. Norway kills roughly 500+. Which makes that of the Faroe Islands look very insignificant.

As far as I am concerned, the Faroese are in no way the biggest culprits.

Why is the slaughtering of dolphins and whales barbaric and worrisome but beef and chicken consumption is fine.

The reporter should learn to respect other people's cultures.

I thought this happens only in Nigeria shocked shocked...

These set of fishermen are too bloodied, poor dolphins cry cry

This never happens in Nigeria..this is just blood-letting. Nigerians kill to eat not for sport and never at this scale.

The western world we often laud for their conservative efforts and animal rights sensitivity have been the one who made many species go extinct with their wholesale killing sprees just for sport.

Not at all.

There so many barbaric acts being carried out across the globe.

The America is even worse.
Thanks for the enlightenment, that was what we used to tell some Nigerians who thought Nigerians were the most horrible being in the world.

I wonder how those fishes haven't migrated frOm that sea, judging by the fact that, that's how they are hunted and killed every year. So all the tales we used to hear in tthose days that whales are capable of capsizing ships are false. Whales and sharks coukd not attack these killers or capsize their ships I saw something like this last year also. That means no matter how we catch fish in water, they can never finish.

Torshavn.

Nice place, high standard of living only problem is the weather.

Always downcast like it's about to rain which it often does.
