Its not my business to show you what other governors are doing. Im only interested in commenting where I see fit. Udom has done fine by creating jobs for his people. it is commendable and more preferable to big flyovers and building airport lounges. People need to be employed to live their lives. for all her huge allocations I still consider Akwa Ibom a poor state. Poor in the sense of the livability of her citizens that I see in Lagos and PH and Abuja. Alot of them live in batchers and shacks and it speaks alot about life in Akwa Ibom. If citizens of a state should be outside in such numbers and most living in squabble conditions, then the govt isn't getting priorities right.

I didn't quote you to say he didn't do well, but there is nothing Amazing. good job tho. Why are you even Amazed sef..

Yeah your right bro...we will get to that point....that is why am doing all to invite investors like you to come in an invest. All our politicians are criminal but udom is trying atleast interms of industrialization...
Again I understand your point an I stand by it tooo..
Meanwhile delta and Lagos are the first 2 highest earner from Fed allocation

The government shouldn't bother trying to industrialize the state, instead they should focus on socialist policies, to build capacity. That way, development will be private sector led.

Never known any country, city or state to develop through public sector led initiatives. That's why it looks as though the governor isn't do as much as he should, when in reality he is. Akwa Ibom and every other state in Nigeria doesn't make enough money to develop its state using public funds alone. It needs the private sector to lead. And the only way it can do that, is by creating a private sector.

90% of all the development projects in Anambra for example, are private sector projects.

What do you mean by Amazing.. What is Amazing about syringe plant and flour plant and coconut oil plant. Pettiness will not kill us in this country.

True. See shanties everywhere. Government has built the roads but AK people are so poor

With that kind of infrastructure I'm seeing, it is only a matter of time before those shanties turn to mansions and highrises.

I don't think you guys understand how development occurs.

Dubai was a desert with nothing but tents and cattle herders.

Until they started building up the infrastructure.

Go there today. The children of those cattle herders are bosses in big firms.

I should do my research? You brought up commie countries as an example of a public sector led economies. You obviously don't understand what I wrote. So just say that, instead of making a fool of yourself.

Communism is a system of governance were the economy is heavily regulated by the state. The companies, the employers of said economy are private sector owned, they're just heavily stifled by government policy, which seeks to ensure everyone enjoys the same standard of living.

But of course that's not possible, as all businesses and occupations are not created equally. Some are more profitable than others. Communism seeks to address this problem by using wealth generated from more profitable exploits to fund and supplement the wages of less profitable occupations, e.I. Road sweepers, porters etc.

In short, it doesn't work, as it inhibits economic development, which over time leads to more poverty. Nigeria is a capitalist economy, with a largely backward population. But that's the fault of its leaders, who have for so long leveraged off the backwardness of their populace to keep themselves in power.

Last I checked there's no heavily regulation of businesses in Nigeria, nor are there any welfare packages, so you can't call it a socialist economy. You either work or die.

Update: FG Unveils N21bn Medical Facility for South-south
editorJuly 19, 2020 9:00 Am
Okon Bassey in Uyo

The federal government has unveiled the plan to build N21 billion medical infrastructure in the South-south geo-political zone as an intervention to promote public healthcare in the zone.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha disclosed the plan at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Oil and Gas Industry COVID-19 Medical Infrastructure for South-south geo-political zone in Akwa Ibom State.

The medical infrastructure will involve the construction of an Intensive Care Unit at Immanuel General Hospital, Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

The medical infrastructure was sponsored by the NNPC/MPN JV as part of the Oil and Gas industry intervention in the South-South, following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the ground breaking ceremony yesterday, Mustapha explained that the intervention was in alignment with the ongoing federal government effort to curb the pandemic through the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

He noted that the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 covered three key thematic areas including provision of medical consumables, deployment of logistics and in-patient support system and delivery of medical infrastructure.

He said: “The total commitment to this initiative amounts to $58 million (N21 billion), out of which 53 percent of the total sum is earmarked for the construction of permanent medical infrastructure across the geopolitical zones.”

Mustapha who was represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr Timipre Sylva, said the initiative was taken to support the national healthcare delivery facilities and strengthen the collective national resolve in combating COVID-19 pandemic and its dreadful impact.

According to him, in recognition of the ravaging impact of COVID -19 pandemic on the critical sectors of our national economy, the Nigeria Oil & Gas Industry under the leadership of the NNPC embarked on an industry wide collaborative intervention initiative to combat the pandemic and its attendant impact.

He noted that the participating companies would execute the project using their internal established processes in order to ensure transparency and accountability.

He said the commitments under the initiative were collected in kind and a clear and transparent governance framework that had been established for collecting and distributing the commitments across the country, in alignment with the processes and procedures of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

The SGF explained that the ground-breaking had put the nation’s oil and gas industry in a good stead to bequeath a sustainable impact and legacy on the healthcare delivery system in Akwa Ibom.

He noted that NNPC and its partners under the initiative would not rest on their oars in continuing to distribute consignments of medical consumables, equipment and logistics facilities across all the states in the country.

He said work had commenced on the construction of a standard permanent infectious disease hospital in Bayelsa State, Imo State and other locations across the nation’s geopolitical zones.

“All these are over and above the regular social investments through various corporate social responsibility initiatives by NNPC and the participating Companies,” he said.

He congratulated the Akwa Ibom Government and its people for benefiting from this intervention programmes and thanked the NNPC, Exxon Mobil, Nigeria LNG and other oil companies for their thoughtfulness, commitment and support.

Also speaking, Mr Paul McGrath, Managing Director, Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited lamented the devastating state of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria and the entire world.

“In these trying times, the NNPC/MPN JV seeks to re-emphasise the high priority we place on health and safety as the core foundational values of our corporate culture and operations. We like to say we are in the business of managing risks, and there is no risk greater than the risk to health.

“So, we must all work collaboratively with our industry partners and other stakeholders, whom we are convinced share in this belief, in combating and, ultimately, defeating this pandemic. The task at hand calls for the sort of partnership we are witnessing here today, ” McGrath said.

He didn't "said" that to me, and whether or not he wrote that to someone else is irrelevant, because that wasn't my point. My point is, that the government has no business getting into business and/or industries. That's the sole responsibility of the people. The government's job is to create the enablers, so that the populace can have the knowhow and the funding to establish these businesses/industries.

As I've said before, such businesses never last; whether they're in Nigeria, USA or England.

Ibom Air (QI, Uyo) is planning to offer direct flights from Nigeria to Cameroon in the near future according to a report carried by the Vanguard Nigeria daily newspaper.

Talking to the media recently, Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Emmanuel Ekuwem said: “There’s a demand from our neighbouring country, Cameroon, for Cameroonians to be connected directly to Lagos or Abuja instead of flying to Lomé [Togo] before connecting a flight to Abuja or Lagos.”

During his briefing, he revealed that Ibom Air has traffic rights to fly to Cameroon from Uyo, Abuja or Lagos and that the airline was planning to launch flights to Douala initially. According to the ch-aviation schedules module, ASKY Airlines (KP, Lomé) is currently the only carrier operating between Cameroon and Nigeria offering three weekly flights from Lagos to Douala and from Abuja to Yaoundé Nsimalen.

There are currently no details on the new Douala route specifics like the planned start date or weekly frequency, although Ekuwem confirmed that Uyo's international terminal building will be ready to handle flights before the end of 2020.

Ibom Air, which commenced scheduled operations in June last year, presently operates a 17x weekly service from Uyo to Abuja and a similar weekly frequency to Lagos with its fleet of three CRJ900s.
