People that cannot give proper account of the revenues generated in this country yet wants to collect more.

The problem is not more money but proper and efficient management of all the resources we have.... All they want is more and more money to loot nothing more

Nigerians don't want to pay taxes but want to enjoy the basic amenities of life.
Where does that work?

What is the relationship between landlord, tenant and FIRS government particular with the state of Nigeria, Nothing and Nothing?

Landlord and Tenant provide everything by themselves for themselves.
The government has not done anything for the duo above.

Taxing them to me is like Ghana government taxing Nigerian businessman who has no shop in Ghana.

No relationship.
The government has done nothing to benefit it's citizenry. No roads, water, building incentives, no law protecting tenant and land and, at nothing government offering to assist the mass yt you want to tax them especially in his pandemic time where businesses have fallen and recovery is years ahead according to experts.

As a landlord, I would be a fool to impose such on my tenants. In a country where most renters are strugglng to pay rent, this wicked government wants to impose more hardship, it makes no sense and I really don't see how it is enforceable? Wetin you go do, seal every house in 9ja that is a rental? Lol.

I strongly believe it can't be a one-time fee.
I am not sure of tax in this category that is ever once and for all.
Tenement rate and/or property tax and the likes are renewable, so this wouldn't be exceptional.

The change preached has come.
Hmm every renewal. This government should better do a review. How much is stamp self. They should have made it 0.006 which will be 3k on 500k. 3 X 1,000,000 is 3 billion.
Who is thinking for this people. The percent is a plain theft approach

You built a house on your own without govt. loans or assistance. (after settling omo nile plus corrupt govt. Officials for a land you legally bought), you decided to rent it out at a meaningful rate but the govt. Still wants to make huge profit from your own rent again.

Man, this country tire me... after doing all the above without any gov't assistance (including providing water, and often electricity), they want to collect tax from rents. They are already collecting tax in the form of CofO, land use charge (which doubled in 2018), income tax from the rent earned by the landlord, and income tax from the tenant when they earn their salary, so what is this one again?

igboamakaaa:
Clearly, this union isn't working, It is a civic duty for us all to clamour for the dissolution of this contraption, so we can all manage our resources to the best of our abilities as different tribal groups.

Personally, count me in for breaking up the country abeg. Can't wait for Biafra. When I think of the wonderful things happening in Igbo states, I can't help but dream about the great country it can become.

Nonetheless, I can't say I agree the the union is the problem... we still have fundamental issues as a people... it's not like our Senators for Anambra or Imo are saints, or we don't have corruption within the state legislature. Also don't forget that the United Kingdom is made of 4 tribes (English, Welsh, Scots, and Irish), and they seem to have figured out how to make a union work. Same as China, Netherlands, Serbia, Spain and many other countries with multiple large ethnic groups.

Dissolution is a means to an end. Revolution is an offshoot of dissolution.
Some people are actually comfortable with the current state of things while some others are not. The comfortable ones tend to drag the others backwards and scutter any plans for revolution.
With dissolution, any group that wants to kick-start a revolution within its confines can do so without troubling others that may be comfortable with the spate of affairs. Its simply a case of "to your tents oh israel".

nah. For dissolution to happen, there has to be a catalyst. Much likely revolution. But in Nigeria, revolution will not lead to dissolution. Best likely a change in government

It is far easier to address the fundamental human issues as a people from a single lineage with one voice than addressing these same issues as a forced union of different individuals with diverse interests, different voices and different political inclinations. One voice maybe clamouring for something but the other voices may not be in support, as such there may not be any significant development nor would any voice be heard.

Dissolution of the country is a means to an end. After we can do that, we then know that we solely are in charge of holding our various leaders to account without infractions from other tribes who may not see things from your view point. Every tribe would learn to manage his people and society in the way he/she deems fit for their cultural background.

It is easier for a nuclear family to manage its affairs but when it becomes a polygamous extended family which is not united by blood, conflicts must be abound.

The catalyst is there already, its the chemicals in the solution that are slowing down the speed of the catalyst's reaction.

In a normal society with normal people, all these anomalies besieging the nation are enough to spark a riot. But Nigeria is a very peculiar case study, in the sense that we all habour all these thoughts in our minds but when someone rises up to the occasion, Nigerians shut him/her down due to tribal differences or for the fact that a relation is benefitting peanuts from the evil in the land.

Until we are fully ready to be autonomous, we may continue to suffer for generations to come.

Some countries are advicing landlords to reduce or even forgo some months house rent in order to reduce the effect of Corvid 19 epidemic on the masses.

But the government in this part of the world keeps burdening and taxing her citizen on all fronts.

This 'next level' no be here o.

How can a Nigerian Govt that knows nothing about how its citizens survive or how a Landlord suffered to build his House, 'advice" such landlord to reduce Rent? Where was the Govt when Landlord was buying Cement, Sand, gravel, Blocks, Cables, Iron, etc, at astronomical Prices? Where was the Nigerian Govt when the Landlord has to pay for his own Borehole, do drainage Gutter, do the road to his house, buy Nepa Pole and Cable, etc..... things that Govt provides in other foreign countries!

Did Govt advice Market Women to reduce the price ofgroceries that has TRIPPLED between March and today, during this Covid-19 Pandemic?
Has the Govt adviced Transporters to reduce the astronomical increase in transport fare, during this Covid-19?
Ordinary 'NEPA' (the DIscos) that promised that it would not disconnect consumers during Covid-19 has not only started carrying diconnection Ladder all over the place but it has sort to even increase, the Tarrif, never mind that it did not give us the free electricity it promised.

So, the Nigerian Govt is a failed Govt. Buhari has failed miserably.
The Leaders in those countries that are advicing Landlords to reduce or forgo Rents have ensured that they give free food, a basic amount fo weekly income and so many other incentives for such citizens and Landlord such that the Landlord will find it "reasonable" to follow such directive.

How can a Landlord buy a Bag of Rice for #16,000 in January and then buy the same thing for #26,000 in June, and you want to advice him to reduce or forgo his Rent, will he not ask you whether you will pay for the Rice he bought at an extra #10,,000 increase or is it not from what someone is 'selling' that they buy other things and feed themselves from?

Nigeria has become a "Dog-Eat-Dog Country", a totally failed system, especially under this useless Jihadist in Aso Rock.

Lol and how will they enforce this one

Read the Post properly, the Landlord is to be held responsible for remittance, if he does not enforce and collect it from his Tenants.
Do you think a Landlord will want to go to jail, for a tenant who refuses to pay the Tax?
He will just throw you out and if you go to Court or Police, he has a valid reason: You refused to comply with Govt directive and put his own liberty/freedom in jeopardy.

What we should focus on is how to unite to frustrate the criminality of the Buhari Govt, by banding together to disobey the law, not turn on ourselves or the Landlord, who was not responsible for such stupid law.

It affects you the Landlord even worse, than the tenant. grin grin
According to him, the burden of payment of the six per cent “lies on the beneficiary of the tenancy or lease agreement, whom the Stamp Duty Act identified as the tenant or renter.”

He added that “the responsibility of collection and remittance fall on the landlord or agent in charge of the property for lease or rent. The party making the payment shall have the obligation to account for the applicable stamp duties.”

You are theone the Govt is holding liable for the Collection and Remittance of the Tax.
You are the one Govt will jail, if they dont get their Money, not your Tenant
.

But you have the liberty to dispose of that Tenant that wants to put you in such situation, by breaking the Stamp Duty Tax Law.
Govt does not care how you collect it, as long as you collect and remit to them, otherwise, Tax defaulters (The Landlord) are easily sent to Jail grin grin

Some people who are Landlords do not even know how to open their mouths to ask tenants for rent this 2020 Covid 19 era as most tenants travelled to their villages since lockdown started in April.

We have very fantastically Corrupt people in governments in Africa.

USA that rent is even a reasonable percentage of house valuation does not collect Kobo from tenancy agreements.

So they mean that every annual rent paid by all Nigerian tenants that FG, or APC will collect 6% ?

Ok, whenever a landlord wants to build house, FG should bring their counterpart funding.

Is it not this Nigeria that government could not share palliatives for Covid 19 ?

Some lawmakers said they would alleviate Nigerians of 2 months NEPA bills, from their salaries ? How far ?

Anyway that is for people whose power transformers are functional.

Bros i'm doing pretty well for myself, i'm not dependent on govt money nor did i think buhari's govt will favour me in anyway. Though i'm not as rich as the elites that own multiple plots in banana island, I've been able to help a lot of people here on Nairaland with cash transfers during the time of lockdown. I can just sit down, live my private life and not speak out, but ive always chosen to speak against ills in the society.

Now to your post; Did you see me antagonize sowore when he wanted to organise the protest? In-fact, it was YOUR OWN PEOPLE that mostly snitched on him. Ive always been an ardent critic of the Buhari maladministration, i had warned of the impending doom to come but people didnt listen. Check through my posts and see me campaigning for youths to read their history, so as not to make mistakes of old.

You're obviously quoting the wrong guy in all ramifications.

If i would follow your thought pattern, i should be the one blaming the southwesterners for vilifying MNK, celebrating his incarceration and the murder of his followers when he kick-started the campaign for Nigeria's dissolution. But that is a very childish way of handling the issues at hand. There is no need crying over spilt milk, now isn't a time for trading blames, all regions of this contraption have faulted one way or the other and have contributed to this mess.

Now is the time to right wrongs and move to do the right thing and secure the future of our generations to come. The dissolution of the contraption is the path that leads to the solution for our age-long problem. It is a collective responsibility for us all to champion this cause to its success.
