The important thing is that the person did not stay inside the house or online all shouting government this, government that, they took action one step at a time.
Life will reward those who take action rather than those who wait for handouts.

Exactly!

Nigeria bad , Nigeria bad, we all know that

The question then become
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO BETTER YOUR SITUATION?
If you are just sitting at home with hands on his waist doing nothing but complain

And you dont go out there to at least hustle in one (legal) way or the other
Then laziness is the person's problem

And even if the person goes abroad
The person will still not make much headway

The way OPEC is making new policies for future oil productions are mind boggling, Nigeria should just forget about oil price going up in the next months or years to come. This pandemic has really changed our world forever. China and US aren't helping matters either.. Now we know why EU and US have been developing technologies and economies that doesn't depend on oil or gas to survive. Every state in Nigeria should get ready to face the hard music, FG allocation to states will be reduced drastically in months to come.

Those who intend to invest in Oyo state prosperity bond at 14% for 12yrs should open their eyes wide... With the continued fall in oil price and reduction of FG allocation to states, we don't need a prophet to tell us that some states will certainly go bankrupt as from 2021 upwards.

Okonjo Iweala warned us to diversify our economy and prepare for hard times like this, but we ignored all her warnings, afterall, she is a woman, why would a woman tell a man what to do in Africa. Now the die is cast.

Reason why they are introducing new taxes.

If it fits into your investment strategy you can buy the bond

SEC will secure your Investment, when Osun State went broke bond Investors got their coupons.

It was what they had left that the state spent.

Your coupon and sinking fund for the repayment of the bond are given priority.

You are right Sir, but that was before the pandemic and oil price was still stable. Things are just too shaky globally right now and no sign things will abate anytime soon.

If it won't fly the professional advisers and SEC won't approve the bond.

Assuming the budget of Oyo state is N100 billion and they need a N50 billion bond for 10 years bond at 14%.

About N4 billion from the state allocation from Abuja will be kept in a sinking fund every year for about 8 years. This would have grown to N50 billion by the 10 year

About N7 billion will also be used for coupon payments.

Total deduction per annum from the states account will be about N11 billion per annum or about N900 million per month

The corporate lawyers to the bond would have gotten an irrevocable guarantee from the attorney general and accountant general of the federation on what to paid to the bond from Oyo state monthly federal allocation

It's very unfortunate really.
How we opened our eyes and let this man do this wreckage to our country

Now many investment platforms returns have gone sideways, as a direct result of his misgovernance

And to think many still try to defend him and his incompetent government is still mind boggling

Many of those who voted him are worse off today than they were five years ago

I see them begging upandan, looking for school fees money for their kids or even money to eat because they have been retrenched and find it difficult to get jobs
Call me a wicked person or wizard, I dont care grin cheesy

But I'm happy this is happening to them and I only wish for their suffering to increase

So that by the time 2023 comes
With eight years of excruciating suffering

They will open their eyes and vote better next time.

Anyways
Let's just leave the matter as e be...

And let's continue to talk investment cheesy

We all have our opinions but please do not destroy this thread with politics and governance issues. The thread may have withstood and still withstanding other investment discussions but politics is too volatile and laced with so much sentiments over here.

Once again, I beg you to please stop discussing issues of politics here so that we can continue to enjoy this thread in peace.

Thank you.

It's going to really be a bumpy ride going forward

Most oil producing countries in Africa squandered the opportunity we had with the oil windfall undecided

Now it's time to face the music
And with a government that clearly does not have a grip on things, the outlook is even grimmer undecided

God dey sha

That's also fine

Everyone has their goals in life
And we are all working assiduously towards it.
But the common goal here for everyone of us
Is for our unearned income to get to a level where it can cover most if not all our expenses.

That should be the base for every one here
Like the "worst comes to worst " level

At some point
Typical African parents have to realise that the kids have their own lives to live, and decisions to make
Its happens, but is not very common to see kids born abroad who would see Nigeria as home, and a place they want to stay long term.

For some who do, just one traumatic/unsavory experience is enough to change their minds

Guys check out this:

Akanbi kicks over Oyo proposed N100bn bond

By Paul Ukpabio
An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Senator Adesoji Akanbi has raised the alarm over approval of N100 billion prosperity bond by the Oyo Executive Council to facilitate execution of priority projects for economic development in the state.
He described the decision as ill-informed and undesirable.
Akanbi, in a statement, said: “A bond, simply put, is a fiscal income made by an investor to a borrower.
“Given that there is no state that will not need borrowing to get solvent, the pertinent question remains that, at what volume can the Oyo state government afford to borrow?
“Can we as a state continue to borrow money when the economy is depleting? This causes for a disquiet concern for all and sundry.”
He added: “It is a swings and roundabouts thing. If we are to service the bond to 20 – 25% of our hard-earned IGR, it behooves us to boost our IGR significantly.
“Can the state earning below N100 billion take the said amount as a loan at this crucial moment?
“We are quick to draw comparison between Oyo state and other states without stating the realities of our IGR status.
“Lagos has about N399 billion in internally generated revenue, followed closely by Ogun state, which has recently grown its IGR by 14.1% totaling up to N70.9 billion.
“These two states are home and dry for any loan. Government needs to be more open and transparent in its deeds.
“Bond is good for developmental purpose if the terms and conditions attached are to be adequately met without shifting the burden on the hapless masses.”
He said rather than take bond, the state should increase its IGR.
“I worked with the late Lam Adesina as an economic advisor during his administration.
“We were just three then and we bought large quantities of shares to boost our IGR, which of course was frittered away by successive administrations.
