As there was no complete number of votes for any one of them to take over the PrimeMinistership post except through alliance. And for the party alliance system, Chief Obafemi Awolowo went to meet Zik for alliance between N C N C and Action Group, with Zik being the Prime Minister and he Awolowo being a Minister, at most for finance. But Zik rejected the offer even with the intervention of the then Ghanaian Prime Minister Dr. Kwame Nkrumah a good friend of Zik then. Nkrumah said Zik should go by Awolowo's proposal for effective development of the country Nigeria.
But Zik said No. as he was prepared to go by I B O/ Hausa_ Fulani alliance. As he was prepared to serve under N P C _ NCNC alliance with Tafawa Balewa as Prime Minister and he Zik as Governor General under Balewa.
His major reason for him Zik was over political appointments sharing with the well educated Yoruba groups. Especially Ministerial and government institution appointments.
And through to form came 1960 ministerial political appointments and government institutional office holders. The only two ministerial appointments to the Yoruba members of the N C N C were Information( T O S Benson) and Post and Telegraph ( name forgotten) as Information Minister you only speak for government and as P & T Minister how many post offices and Telephone service operations were available then. But see I Before Others - IBOs, and Ministerial occupation : Finance ( Okotieboh Mid West Ibo ) External Affairs, Education, for Aviation remember (MAN OF TIMBER AND CALIBER) ,Health, Transportation, and many others were all from the Eastern Region. The only 2 major ministerial occupation by the N P C control government were : Defence __ Ibrahim Waziri and Mines and Power __ Bamanga Tukur.
Then as for government owned establishments they were mainly occupied by the I Before Others : A good example was the Transport ministry. The Transport Minister, the The Nigeria Railway Corporation, The G M, The Accountant General, ( Remember I love cars ) when 7 cars were recovered from the residence of the Railway A G after 1st coup. So for the I Before Others to now say except they take over come 2023 they may consider other issues.This is after 60 years of their neglect.

The fact is presidency is never gotten on a platter of gold. If they feel they deserve it they should fight for. They need to first convince the west on why they should consider dropping their ambition after sowing so much on APC just like the east have the same rigth to demand for the ticket in 2023 on the platdorm oMind you they had the same opportunity of doing the same. Another simple alternative which they know would fail is them demanding that PDP should give them the ticket to square against a candidate from the west on the platform APC .the result would still be failure. They decided by shooting them selves in the foot. You can't be threatening secession and asking for the precidency .others are not stupid. However I think the east needs to rethink it's relationship with every other constituent part especially the west and south south. .the north is smart and knows that once there is no agreement between them they would surely have their way.
