Besides, Foodco is headquartered in Ibadan. Show me any supermarket chain outside Nairobi as big as that.

Store chains do not have to have 60 outlets to outperform foreign stores. What the country needs are many small players. Some with less than 6 outlets. That's the secret. Retail income in Nigeria is still far larger than in Kenya.

I used to think that minerals were a curse on African countries until I discovered a shithole by the name Venezuela. From a country which was at one time the richest on earth to what it is now is quite shocking. I also see South Africa heading in the same direction.

When it come to formal shopping - we are 2nd to South Africa in SSA. We are probably going 35% formal retail - while Nigeria is not even at 5%.
