KolaShangOne: I respectfully disagree on the bolded. Nigerians are not the poorest people in the world.. The issue is cost of doing business is high, very high. Lots of uncertainties. Try opening a factory, the community will give you list of demands, this is after you pay for the land.. Then if you import materials, the non straightforward process to clear the goods and lots of unnecessary charges you have to pay.. then if you get too big, your rival could conive with a politician or someone with connections to frustrate your life.. But Nigerians are not poor.. Regardless, how many people have mortgage in Nigeria as compared to U.S? 7 Likes |

Badgers14: I bought an Okada and Marwa that I use to roam around my neighborhoods. On one of my roams I discovered that I can get to Omi Adio from Elebu through a forest near Idi Ayunre. But I digress. The point I want to make is to support your Nigeria is NOT poor point. I run across some fantastic mansions around me here that puts my American funded house to shame. Not all but some I discovered are owned by locals, not returnees. Basically Alhadji yen ni shob ni Gbagi types or Alhadji to nta plastic ni Alesinloye. Nigerians are rich. It's just that the poor are bottom barrel poor. But we are mostly rich mfers. All those Camry, Accord, Corrola, etc start from N2.1M plus and we know that there is no credit facility that is easily accessible in Nigeria. A lot of shopping complexes abound on Akala Express and you know it's all cash based. There are levels to these things. 10 Likes |

I laff in ijebu language. I only replied you cos you've been quite helpful and it appears your project is in that axis. There are always china truck plying the lekki-epe express fully loaded with plaster sand, wave/flash one of them down and make direct inquiries from them. That's how i sourced and I have bought over 5 trips of 30T so far and will still be needing more soon. You may get it 5k-10k less (or more) but forget about those rates you're looking for. Infact run if anyone offers you at such rate. davodyguy: 1 Like |

Absolutely! I know the breakdown of the cost. Where is the primary location of your truck? I know you're active around our project locations, so are you open to 3rd party use within reasonable distance and with gentleman agreement in place? n3xt: 1 Like 1 Share |

megacontrol: No sir. I sold it off already. Looking at buying a new one. The few times I tried this my driver brought me “gbese” The first one was at monastery road where he knock off a streetlight. We spent over 700k to fix the truck and sort out police. The second one was in Ikota Villa, he brought down electricity pole and we had to pay to reinstall the poles. Unless one is that crude Ijebu man who have “gbetu gbetu” in his pocket, running truck business ain’t for faint-hearted. The guys will do deals overnight when you give them the chance. 1 Like |

I feel you but this is no different from other businesses in the country with their associated risks. You have to de-risk somehow, if that involves "gbetu-gbetu" then so be it ... literarily! -Did you purchase a new, imported toks or locally fairly used truck? -Was the truck exclusive for your jobs (and those you accept from reliable 3rd party) only or outsourced to general public? -Was the driver on call-out basis only for your jobs or he had delivery targets to meet? -I'm sure you would have made a business decision on doing comprehensive insurance or not after careful analysis, hence the reason you had to cough out dough to fix the pole and streetlight damages from those incidents. You know that even your regular private car driver could run into those same or similar accidents? Even the e-hailing biz isn't free from those sorry tales but some have manged to run a profitable biz from it. Point is, while i recognize the peculiarities of, and intricacies involved, in the 9ja biz operating environment, and accept haulage in particular is not for the faint-hearted, there are always mitigation to bring the risks to a reasonably practicable level. If the model is right and you apply learnings from your first venture, there's something in there with the combined volume between your jobs and those of your like-minded colleagues/client/associates. You're a smart dude, and there's a reason you're looking to buy another one despite your previous experience. What's different? abi you don sign up for your own "gbetu-gbetu" now? Keep it up, and like you mentioned...ignore the naysayers! n3xt: 3 Likes |

There is a building along chevron, between two building, the space is not up to 800mm! Intact not building almost touches each other at the roof level(they both have to use water collector for the roof, or else rain water will just be going into other compound. I wonder how they got approval kopell: |

KolaShangOne:Sir you need to retrieved that comments of Nigeria being the poorest people in the world. You don’t want to see poverty of other nation where people line up for food daily, imagine calling us poorest people. I may agree with you if you say we have leadership problem. Thank God somebody as make comparison with other rich nation. Go and do your research on how US government create wealth for their citizens in 1800 through homes ownership. Imagine government building thousand of homes at average cost of $10,000 then selling them at subsidized price of $5,000 according to people incomes on mortgage to engage their citizens to work till retirement age. That is how it all started okay my man. 2 Likes |

Abolarin91: I moved back home 18 months ago and its been wonderful. I wasn’t an economic or socially oppressed migrant when I left Nigeria in 1986. That Nigeria was wonderful even though we still complained. I’m back now but blessed that I can mitigate some of the current issue. So on the surface it’s shocking that I could love Nigeria this much. Thanks. 2 Likes |

Oliran: That client location of property was Ibeju Lekki. I had another client whose own is New Oko Oba Agege LGA. Duplex with flat too. He was asked to pay #750K even after submitting his tax clearance from abroad. I really don't know why LIRS is behaving the way there. We just held on for now at that level. But other things like development levy, building assessments and other related bills has been paid and receipts issued. Its just the tax thing that almost everyone dey hold on. If anyone has a better link or advise that will be appreciated 1 Like |

EgunMogaji2:Hummmm. Intresting Alhamdulilah X 1000 for you that you can go back and have same love for the country as you left them. Many people are still living in delusion that every one will and can make it outside Nigeria shore. Many of them after wasting their youthful life, then realize it could be better if they stay on and work hard. It’s long story with different experience especially without papers, that alone could waste 10 years of one youthful live. Welcome back ooo 6 Likes |

megacontrol: -Did you purchase a new, imported toks or locally fairly used truck? Imported Toks -Was the truck exclusive for your jobs (and those you accept from reliable 3rd party) only or outsourced to general public? Tried the 3 but using it exclusively for NextHome projects yielded highest ROI. I was able to recoup my investment within 11 months. -Was the driver on call-out basis only for your jobs or he had delivery targets to meet? First driver placed on salary; 2nd driver on delivery target; 3rd driver on call-out basis. -I'm sure you would have made a business decision on doing comprehensive insurance or not after careful analysis, hence the reason you had to cough out dough to fix the pole and streetlight damages from those incidents. Not sure I did comprehensive insurance. I did it the typical naija man way “All will be well” You know that even your regular private car driver could run into those same or similar accidents? Even the e-hailing biz isn't free from those sorry tales but some have manged to run a profitable biz from it. Point is, while i recognize the peculiarities of, and intricacies involved, in the 9ja biz operating environment, and accept haulage in particular is not for the faint-hearted, there are always mitigation to bring the risks to a reasonably practicable level. This informed my decision to buy new truck(s) If the model is right and you apply learnings from your first venture, there's something in there with the combined volume between your jobs and those of your like-minded colleagues/client/associates. The confidence I had when I have my truck while bidding for job is bigger than that of Daniel in the lion’s den. You can imagine the huge savings made playing the role of a skipper and the umpire. The contractor selling sand and blocks on the project. On a single project I did over 120 trips of sand with almost over 50% profit. You're a smart dude, and there's a reason you're looking to buy another one despite your previous experience. What's different? abi you don sign up for your own "gbetu-gbetu" now? I’m exploring possibilities in other interesting areas so there might not be any need for a gbetu-gbetu. I’ll just have the drivers on call. Keep it up, and like you mentioned...ignore the naysayers! I wish I can! They inspire me to do better. One would imagine I’m here to look for jobs instead I’m busy setting up construction-as-a-service (CAAS) The future of construction is around the corner. Today, most people don’t buy cars anymore. We look at a car as a service with a pay-per-use or monthly rental cost and when autonomous driverless cars become reality soon, we will simply pay for a service like we do with taxis. So if we don’t adapt our business strategy, we are not going to be in a position to take advantage of this new world. 5 Likes |
