Meaningless response. The Benin oba has spoken. And proper Benin people have spoken.

Both the Ooni of Ife and the Alaafin of Oyo were originally from Benin and definitely not greater than the Benin oba.

I haven't sent in my reply. Once I do, you will be in no doubt as to who the Portuguese explorers were referring to.

Oba Benin will never challenge Eze NRI, as he properly told us how the OONI came to be.

Please still wait for my reply to TAO11. I want to lecture you guys, so you will stop spilling trash all around

You are saying rubbish and the video you posted was baseless in the first place.

What are you trying to prove with the video? It is just one uninformed narrator claiming Oba of Benin is greater in rank than Ooni without any fact and he was clearly roasted in the comment section.

I was expecting to see evidence to show Oba of Benin was greater but the video turned out to be the usual nonsense from uninformed people without any proof or reference to how he came about his claim.

All I just showed you was the hierarchy in place in the picture of 1937. You can clearly see that the Oni was in the middle as the highest in rank among the Yoruba Obas and the Oba of Benin was equally seated in the picture. At least they never used rope to drag Oba of Benin to be part of the sitting and he clearly understood what the gathering was all about.

I showed you pictures to back the claim while you showed the video of a narrator saying rubbish.

I don't understand u but are u then claiming the Ooni was bigger than the white man..

If no, then pictures don't prove anything

The white man is just the Governor of Nigeria. You can clearly see that the Yoruba Obas were only taking pictures with the Governor normally and the highest in rank is the Oni of Ife based on the seating arrangement.

The Oba of Benin sat willingly on his own and I don't see where they put rope around his neck to be part of the Yoruba Obas.

The video is just nonsense. The second video showed the narrator is just one uninformed propagandist saying rubbish.

You can check the comment section of the video, he was roasted on the comment section.

The below is 1937 showing the pictures of all Yoruba Obas with the governor of Nigeria. Oba of Benin was also included in the Yoruba Obas and you can see him seated.

At the centre is Ooni Aderemi, to his left is Oba Akenzua of Benin and Alake of Egbaland Oba Ademola. To Ooni’s right, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Oladigbolu and Oba Adesanya Gbelegbuwa the Awujale of Ijebu Ode. The white man in the picture is the Governor of Nigeria.

What are we supposed to learn from this picture?

He claimed the video he uploaded is about how the Obaship are ranked. Then I just showed him a picture of the sitting arangement and rank of what is clearly called (The Yoruba Obas).

The Oba of Benin wa sclearly seated and you can see he was lower in ranking when compared to the Ooni.

Now the wuestion should be, why did Ofoigbo uploaded the video in the first place? What is he trying to make us learn from the video?

It is not a photoshoot and sitting arrangement in an official picture like that always tells a lot in diplomatic terms.

Except if you are a kindergarten who need to be spoon fed on everything, you should know the sitting arrangement in that picture is of high importance and it depicted hierarchy.

Bros where was it stated that this picture was taken according to any rank?....Atleast you can deduce something from what the people in those videos are saying, whether true or false is a matter of opinion.

You on the other hand just uploaded a picture and declared they were seated in ranks grin grin

Insecure bush-children will not kill me. LegendHero, is this what you’ve been tolerating from bush-children?? shocked

(1) One of them still insisted that Awolowo (born 1919) was the one responsible for the documented statements of the 1850s and 1901. Interesting. I finally brought out the Nri-ness (i.e. dumbness) in these children. grin

(2) I also see the bush-child trying to bring up the archaeology of Ife as the reason for Ife’s primacy among the Yorubas (perhaps after realizing how his AwOlOwO straw exposes his dumbness further).

Can someone please inform the bush-child that the first archaeological excavation of Ife was in the year 1910 by Leo Frobenius, and as such post-dates the 1850s and 1901 documented statements about Ife’s primacy which I shared?? grin

(3) Bush children, as expected, couldn’t possibly grasp the nuance of the statements from where the Johnson brothers tried to shift Yoruba’s capital to Oyo.

The bush-child confused himself between cradle and capital. To educate the low-life bush-child as always, Oyo never at anytime claimed to be the cradle of the Yoruba people. cheesy

(4) Regarding the YouTube videos, an independent, neutral and academic source (such as the British Museum documentary) which states very clearly that the Oba of Benin pays homage to Ife is obviously an authentic source of valid historical information than whatever defensive and insecure beer parlor tales emanate from Benin which is itself is the embarrassed party in this scenario.

In case of doubt, see the documentary again one more time. Remember to go specifically to the time-stamp 48:22 — 48:38

Go and understand official protocol involved in seating arrangement.

Check Buhari well, have you ever seen him seat at the far corner in any official picture in Nigeria? (Note the keyword, official pictures)

Check Trump well, in any official picture, have you ever seen him seat at the far corner?

@LegendHero:

In relation to the picture you shared, the actual title of the meeting (facilitated by the colonial governor) is “Conference of Yoruba Chiefs” — with the Oba of Benin as member.

The report of the first one of these conferences held at Oyo on 31 March and 1 April 1937, notes in its introduction as follows:

"The chiefs were seated in horse-shoe formation with the Oni of Ife, as head of the town from which all Yoruba have traditionally sprung, at the centre, and the Alafin of Oyo at the western and the Oba of Benin at the eastern end, an arrangement which gave general satisfaction."

Refer to: "Conference of Yoruba Chiefs, Oyo, 31 March to 1 April 1937", mimeographed, p.1.

During the second of this conference held at Ife on 16 and 17 March 1 1938, the question of permanent membership was raised, and after deliberation a list of permanent members was announced with the name of the Oba of Benin in third place after those of the Ooni of Ife and the Alaafin of Oyo.

Before the end of the conference, a proposal was made to extend the membership scope to include others from the Western Yoruba provinces. This proposal drew comment from the Ooni of Ife to the effect that this would create certain problems, including that of language. Then he said, 'We understand the Oba of Benin: he is one of us, and today we come together as the children of Odudua'"

--- Refer to: "Conference of Yoruba Chiefs, Ife, 16 and 17 March 1938", mimeographed, p. 44.

All your arguements on this Thread Tao11 has based major on excuses:

Excuses of why Ile Ife is the last and most recent out of seven

Excuses of why I should discard the fact that the Awujale of Ijebu land said they don't have any Ife connection

It was just a picture of those that addressed themselves as Obas (which btw, is originally an NRI title) in the western region.
The oba Benin has spoken. True Benin people have spoken in both videos. The Ooni was a Benin prince that was sentenced to death. Alaafin was also a Benin man.

This was majorly why the Benin oba was at the forefront of seeking the establishment of a Midwestern state, because Yorubas sought to dominate everything because of their population.

I can guarantee that the Benin oba had no hand in branding himself a Yoruba. The Willink commission report properly detailed the Yoruba treatment of the western minorities.

So I am not surprised that the Yoruba Obas who were many, ensured that the Benin oba was buried in a sea of Yoruba rulers.

The Benin people properly spoke their mind, by leaving the western region and asserting their true identity.

No Benin oba has ever told us he's under the OONI, who's even of Benin ancestry

No Benin oba has ever told us he's under the OONI, who's even of Benin ancestry

So the Yoruba Obas put rope on the neck of the Oba of Benin and dragged him to Oyo to identify as a Yoruba in the conference of Yoruba Obas?

You are boring me with all these nonsense of yours. what is my own with Willinks? How does that correlate with this? What should we do with it?

Benin people themselves are not useful to me, infact I am not interested in Benin or what they represent. That was why I initially told you on the early page of this thread that both Igbo, and Benin history or culture is none of my concern. So don't think Benin is that useful to me!

However since you initially dubiously uploaded a video saying it showed hierarchy, i had to include the image of the Oba to counter your ridiculous claim to put you in the place you deserve.

Great respect for the Ooni for having the boldness to come out publicly and state this Truth

Nice video.

Ooni said "The Igbo people descended from the Yoruba people of Ife."

Do you agree with Ooni?

Yes or No?

This was majorly why the Benin oba was at the forefront of seeking the establishment of a Midwestern state because Yorubas sought to dominate everything because of their population.

Excuses! Excuses!! and more Excuses!!!

Mid-western state or what did I just hear you bush-child say?? (Please bear in mind that Wester Region itself was founded in 1939)

The attachment below shows a quotation of the account collected by Captain Ernest Roupell from the Benin palace in the year 1897.

As it is shown clearly, the Binis themselves (without any Yoruba pointing a gun at their head) informed the British captain that their first King (Eweka1) was a Yoruba man from Ife.

— Captain Roupll’s Officials quoted in H. Ling Roth (1903), p.7.

The specific details they narrated to the British by themselves (as at that year 1897) is quite different from how the Yoruba traditions put it.

But at least they were honest enough to admit early to the Oyinbo man that their first king was a Yoruba man from Ife.
