The disrespect to VICMO is quite astonishing on this platform.
Giving some folks praise mediocre players like Nwakali, Iheanacho, Iwobi to high heaven on this same platform. Wow!

At Afcon 2013, we were absolutely abysmal in our first two games which we drew.
Our last game against Ethiopia was a must-win but again we were shambolic until Vicmo came into the game after overcoming the injury that sidelined him from the first 2 matches and took the game by the scruff of the neck causing and scoring two penalties to win the game for us.

Without VICMO's contribution, we would have been out in the first round.Against Ivory Coast, we were camped in our half until VICMO took the game to the Ivorians cutting in from the left and unleashing a ferocious shot that Bari managed to save. He kept marauding the Ivorians defense thereby boosting the confidence of the other players.

Against Mali, what more can I say? A career-ending superb dribbling to set up Echiejele for the first goal. He was the Malians tormentor in Chief. In the final, it was his movement, dribbling, and shot that led to Mba's goal that won us the cup. Put respect on VICMO. He also single-handedly took us to the 2018 world cup. Against Algeria and Cameroon, he was unplayable. Our single win against Iceland started with that sumptuous pass from VICMO to Ahmed Musa.

Give a fucking respect to the legend, VICMO!
With VICMO we would have won the last Cup of Nations.

Victor Moses is not a legend !

He will not be the focal point of the team and with a ball played into space and or over the top of defenders for him to run onto as the main strategy will simply not work in Seria A. This league is well know for defending and closing spaces.

This is a test that Ighalo has already passed with flying colours, PROVEN, TESTED and CONFIRMED.

If we bring Vic Moses into the equation none of them has played at his level and or exceeded his ability.
this your thinking and resolve is parochial.

You still haven't learn.... hope you know that the league Oshimen played has 2 teams in the semi final of UCL and one of them trashed your over hyped man city

And for Ighalo at oshimen's age he was nowhere to be found...so please don't put both in the same sentence.

Wish you could use this same energy to canvas for vardy recall in the English National Team...doubt you can say that

Nigeria 2-1 Cote D'Ivoire
MOTM: Sunday Mba

Nigeria 4-1 Mali
MOTM: Emmanuel Emenike

Nigeria 1-0 Burkina Faso
MOTM: John Mikel Obi

Victor Moses did play a major role for us but I hope this also explains to you that he didn't act alone.

The truth is everyone in that afcon winning team did well even Omeruo was a revelation in that tourney, Ideye played well too...so it will be out of place to say a player single handedly won us the afcon

Well that was in 2013 and now we're in 2020.... I don't see the senses over the call for Moses and Ighalo recall it's lik saying England should recall Vardy which is not going to work....

For now I believe we have got great players that will perfectly fit in as we progress and moreover we still have some FB littered all over Europe we still need to cap.

Honestly, in a country that most of its players are at lower clubs, its a no Brainer that its 2 players at the Biggest clubs are still needed assuming they show interest. A player like Victor Moses (5 assists) so far will walk into Nigeria 11. He has proven himself Domestically against the best in Africa and we would had defeated Algeria in ANC with Moses on the field. We should remember that some players perform better for their country side than their club side and moses is one of them. As for Ighalo, personally I won't bench osimehn for him but he will make our Bench. A good bench is equally as vicious as the first 11. However, I won't suggest that SE in any form of way beg those 2 to return. Se is bigger than any individual and if they choose to return back to us, theyre welcomed

Moses was the reason we won??

If victor Moses was that important why was Mikel nominated for African player of the year for that year and Moses was overlooked (despite the fact that they both won the Afcon and Europa league that year)

Mikel was crucial to Chelsea winning the Europa and he was part of the AFCON winning team.

Anyway, from my own perspective, I think Victor Moses was the reason we won that cup. That's my own opinion.

Just had to share one of my favorite Mikel Obi Afcon 2013 post.

Why John Obi Mikel Should Have Been Named AFCON MVP by JERRAD PETERS

Jonathan Pitroipa’s MVP gong from the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations will be little consolation for the Rennes winger, whose Burkina Faso side was defeated 1-0 by Nigeria in Sunday’s final. But even it should have found itself in the grasp of a Super Eagle, and there were two or three who would have been more worthy recipients than Pitroipa.

This is not to take anything away from the 26-year-old, whose heroics in the quarterfinals against Togo helped ensure the Stallions would continue galloping toward their first ever major final. Pitroipa was one of the best players in South Africa the past three weeks, but in no way was he the best.

That honor falls to Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel, and he should have been given the official recognition to confirm what everyone already knows. He should have been crowned Player of the Tournament.

Mikel’s importance to Nigeria became evident as soon as manager Stephen Keshi named his roster for the competition. Keshi bravely omitted several establishment players from the 23-man squad he took to the Cup of Nations, including Yakubu, Peter Odemwingie, Obafemi Martins, Dickson Etuhu, Taye Taiwo and Danny Shittu. Instead, the team he selected was comprised of five domestic-based players and only two—goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and captain Joseph Yobo (who wasn’t a starting player)—with more than 50 caps to their names.

Mikel, at 25, was immediately the elder statesman of the midfield, and he vindicated Keshi’s daring by playing some of the best football of his life.

With Ogenyi Onazi and Sunday Mba alongside in the centre of the park, Mikel marshalled what proved to be the tightest, most organized midfield in South Africa—something that was never expected, given the disorderly nature of Nigeria sides past. He also led by example instead of letting his notoriously erratic behavior get the better of him, and if anything his soft-spoken approach made him a model for his younger teammates.

So often a lightning rod of controversy in the Premier League, he was nothing of the sort at the Cup of Nations. While barely three months before he had been handed a three-match suspension for bursting into referee Mark Clattenburg’s changing room with allegations of racial abuse that were later proved unfounded, at this tournament he played with his mouth closed, his brain operational and his maturity blossoming.

As a result, we saw a player we’ve only seen in patches during his time at Chelsea. Robust in a defensive role in front of the back four and imperious on the ball and in his movement, Mikel was the best midfielder on the park in every match he played. That Nigeria so fully deserved their quarterfinal win over Ivory Coast was largely down to him; that the Nigerian attackers had a platform from which to demolish Mali was largely down to him.

That the centre of the park was shut to Burkina Faso’s passing was largely down to him, and Nigeria won the tournament’s showcase match because of it.

There was an array of stars at the 2013 Cup of Nations, and Pitroipa was certainly among them. But Mikel was a supernova. And when he shone, the stars disappeared.

Below is Bleacher report's expert opinion on why Mikel should have been named the Afcon 2013 player of the tournament. Even before the final, they wrote a few articles stating Mikel's importance and predicting he will come big in the final. Well, they got it right. Mikel was the Final MVP.

What injustice against Jonathan Pitroipa?

Oliseh called it the worst refereeing decision in the history of football.
As far as i was concerned, it was match fixing to get Ghana to the finals gond wrong. Pitroipa was unfairly sent off but Burkina Faso still scaled through.

CAf president Issa Hayatou said.

"Everyone realised that this referee did not officiate well," Hayatou announced on Friday.

"They've told me the referee has sent a letter saying he got it wrong."

slight adjustment

2) Iheanacho - Proven SE player. Above average in EPL
7) Musa - Proven SE player performed at highest international level
10) Umar - showed promise in Seria A and Dutch Eredivise. Doing well in Serbia. Did well at Rio. untested and unproven in international soccer
11) Nwaemeke - tested in SE yet to prove quality
13) Iwobi - Struggling in EPL but proven in SE
14) Kayode - Laliga flop. tested in SE yet to prove quality

Based on SE performances yes Ighalo was outstanding but based strictly on club football at the highest level (not championship) sorry he leaves a lot to be desired. between Seria A, La Liga and EPL Odion has only scored more than 10 goals once. please that is not something to advertise as outstanding
