This is stamped concrete, me I prefer it over interlock. Weed can not grow on this floor and it is aesthetically pleasing compare to interlock that you will be seeing weed growing at each joint. Recently, I tried to convince someone to use stamp concrete but he said what if there is blockage in waste pipe underground, how will they rectify it(which I don't really know how to convince him). Dennis3D: Ahn ahn nah.. why you go compare stamped concrete with interlock Stamped concrete sure is way better than interlock. I think the only deciding factor there is price.. Do you happen to have a rough estimate on how much a typical interlock costs vs stamped concrete for a project like the one in this 3D.? 1 Like |

[quote author=Ibibioson post=93048207] We can now conclude the man is a fraud. How can he be kidnapped while he visits this forum almost daily between 3 and 5am reading all comments and reports about him without any response. Imagine his excuses, dad died, in COVID isolation center, in hospital, and now Kidnapped. He is such a wicked mind. Playing dangerous poker with the mind of a guy that choose to patronize his service. A professional service man should have the audacity to come out clean to say to the service user, 'I ran into trouble, I miss used the money you advanced me but am working harder to make that up...your project as scheduled would be delayed and to reassure you, I would be on your site daily with my workers , please bear with me....bla blabla. Then work to organise workers to keep the work going. Much better than kept the owner hanging. The person would be rattled, unsettled but at least realised that he contracted a rogue contractor, then ready to do the needful. Only 'rogue contractors' would be foolish enough to invest mobilisation cash in 'get rich quick scheme' as this Broker did then get burned and go about telling bullsheeeet. Real contractors may fell into temptation, ran into trouble but continue to work even much harder to cover up his fork up and avoid being discovered. He has shame that rogue contractors don't have. "Shame is integrity". Be careful who and how you engage contractors here. Stay with established names. Establish physical link directly or through a proxy, insist the person create a thread on the project to report progress with a link here for others to follow. Where possible at onset avoid advancing huge sums as mobilisation. Always be attentive to briefing from the contractor. They may give off clues of seeming desperation, or arrogance. Desperation may be sign of financial difficulty, while arrogance is a subtle sign of unprofessional conduct. In the presence of any, pull the trigger; that is stop to evaluate your relationship on the project with the contractor to see if it is necessary for him to continue or you call it quits. Do not allow any contractor to rush you into making decision or advancing huge money in the guise to save 'any' cost. The good contractors we have here are more than the few bad eggs. Just be careful who you engage to avoid stories that touch negatively. 5 Likes |

Thank you so much for your response. My concern is that the water piping for the ground floor has not been done. The plumber is saying the pipes supplying water on the floor will be laid when the tiling is about to be done so that it doesn't get exposed for so long and get broken from legwork. Regarding the windows, main entrance and exit doors, I understand those will have to be installed just about when the plastering is taking place. Would that be correct? topsy23: |

Dennis3D: In my last build I used interlocking, but knowing what I know now I would have used stamped concrete. But the stamped concrete should be a good standard concrete, well stamped and colored. Even the, Spyder advised me to use stamped concrete, I should have listened. But future problem about plumbing or underground repairs in the yard is why I chose interlocking. But both have pros and cons. Thanks. Hajji M. 3 Likes |

True, I'm fairly new here. But I wonder why he was allowed to continue to scam people using this forum. Anyway, he was arrested yesterday. He admitted that he used my money to take care of his father's burial. There's nothing in his account now, per his bank statement we obtained. I'll make sure he coughs the money. sinorte: The water supply both first and ground floor must be done before plastering since you are not running surface pipe. All pipes must be concealed in the wall before plastering. Doors and windows can be installed during plastering . |

Dennis3D: If my guess is right, that concept of flooring is decorative stamped concrete and for now it's the best option for outdoor flooring. Just avoid cheap and ogbonge installer/contractor and you won't regret. You can count on me, because I am a decorative stamped concrete specialist. Or check my signature. Thanks. 4 Likes

mufutau55: My issue is when everyone has 'concreted' their entire compounds and no way for water to saturate naturally, we end up with more floods as a society. There should be a law against this IMO. 6 Likes |

Ibibioson: So he was not kidnapped and was not in an isolation center, but his father died? How are we sure that was even the case But anyways, I keep saying it here time after time.. communication communication communication, why all the lies ?? Why not straight up tell the client, Oga mi, your job will be delayed for x amount of time.. there is a tragedy in the family and I am running around to tidy things.. everyone will understand ( for the most part).. Speaking of using a client's money for burial, I am not saying don't bury the dead.. but this was his responsibility... what if the client is trying to get this project done because his landlord pursued him from his house and he has no where to take his family for shelter? What if the client's parent's are in dire need of a shelter and the client robbed Peter to pay Paul or took a high interest loan to tidy up few things in the house so his family could have shelter and this HSLbroker guy as a "good son" uses this client money to bury his father?? I had a guy one time that told me ehn ehn.. he used my money to take care of the wife's hospital bills etc ( she just put to bed).. I was like, didn't you know your wife was pregnant I had to dig deep where I don't like to cough out the money and you are telling me you used it to take care of the wife's hospital bills Please let's be considerate when we make these decisions, the other party have needs and problems they need to take care of too!!! 7 Likes |

Abolarin91: Your second point is exactly is why I settled for interlocking. If there is a plumbing problem, it will be big wahala to fix o, you have to break everything and re-concrete again. That is why there are lots of pros and cons using both method. But eventhough we laid plastic before the interlocking, few months after we still have the weed problem. But we bought a good weed killer that we periodically sprayed on the joints, so far so good now. So, you just have to weigh your options which you prefer. Hajji M. 3 Likes |

Hello all. Seeing the debate about interlocking and stamped concrete, I'm curious why most people don't go for landscaping and concrete for the walkway only. What are the advantages of common practices against landscaping and concrete? Water sprinklers are very cheap and DIY friendly. Looks like a no brainer to me but I'm sure I'm missing something. Examples in the pictures below. 4 Likes

qdlvy: Looks beautiful but ehn to have a manicured lawn like this requires lots of elbow work I might be wrong but for an average Nigerian we might not be there yet. Figure lots of people build houses and they don't live there full time. Etc. Different circumstances. The few people I know that have this in their build are not average Nigerians and they pay people to take care of their lawn for them. 3 Likes |

Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by qdlvy: 4:53pm On Aug 22, 2020 |
Badgers14: I see. That makes sense. I still believe it's cheaper in the long run and it's worth the effort for the green space it provides and the aesthetics. Lawnmower and sprinkler system shouldn't cost more than $350. Mowing lawns can be done once monthly by the homeowner themselves. I think the biggest problem will be growing the grasses in the first place. Maintenance isn't that difficult. People just tend to do what they see others doing. 3 Likes |

Badgers14: Good points. The rainy season, yes, mowing will need to be done much more frequently - 2x to 3x monthly. But shouldn't be more than an hour's work unless it's a big yard. Surely, most Naija people have more than one hour to spare every two weeks, even Lagosians. I still think the pros outweigh the cons relative to the alternatives. 3 Likes |
