In as much as there are loads of advantages of using sack, You are more likely to get bitter cucumbers from the sack method than ground if you can't water properly and daily

correct, sack is best watered twice daily during dry season, morning and evening, seems your sacks are too close together,it tends to cause problems with ventilation vand DM,even our own sack we spaced 1 feet apart is giving us headache, spacing is a critical factor in sack farming because the crops will come up too healthy and sound that you will be the victim of your own success.

watering once a day is quite challenging not to talk of twice angry shocked shocked I pity those planning one acre with sacks o....btw, has anyone cultivated cucumber/any other vegetable close to a river that has a sandy soil? What were the challenges you faced, and did manure help improve the soil quality? I am asking cos I have access to land there but the entire terrain leading to the river looks sandy, the swamp nearby is a total no-go area

for your no 1 question it's better to check your market and see the type they prefer, maybe take a photo or two,so we can diagnosis the variety or you can divide the land and plant half of each and see the outcome.(2)from the practical experiments conducted in sacks, there's no possible way a cucumber planted on the soil direct will outperform those planted in sacks, because whatever nutrients that is applied in sack remains there, but nutrients applied on soil can easily leech into the soil after a heavy rain and go far down the root zone were it will be useless for the crops but the only drawback in sacks is the back bending, bone wrenching work of filling the sacks with soil.our cucumbers planted in sack are light years ahead of those planted on soil

Good Morning Everyone, l was able to get some cucumbers from the markets in my area and will like you guys to help me analyse what type it is and whether it is good cultivar to plant or recommended similar but Better cultivars

my former farm manager has used just bucket and cup to irrigate 2000 cucumber crops from a nearby stream during the peak harmattan period,it is those who have not experienced it can tell the limit of human endurance, that Sandy soil by the river are hundreds of years of accumulated silt,it may look Sandy to you but it is fertile, during rainy season every trash, rubbish and shit will be carried by water down to the lowest point in the valley, just add chicken manure and you will be surprised, even in some places that Sandy top soil will only be a few inches deep,if you till it black heavy soil will pop up.

the pics of those cukes has shown how serious this August break has been, lack of rainfall caused very high percentage of misshapen fruits, moreover I can easily identify at least 3 different varieties in that tray,a drought affected cu 999,Murano and market more with spines, this your market is truly an open market.

original Honda pumps will be expensive due to the parent company has spent many millions if not billions on research and development, adverts, ,also paid better wages, better insurance and healthcare, and they also use secret .metal mix in the critical high stress parts of their machine making it last longer than the Chinese clone,we once had a similar dilemma in our farm some years back,do we buy an italian borehole pump of #120k or do we get a Chinese clone of #25k,we finally got two Chinese pump with the believe that one Italian pump cannot possibly Outlast two Chinese pump, after many years the Chinese pumps proved to be well made and lasted even still working till today.

a bag of cucumbers by January cannot be anything less than #5-6k per bag,it is almost impossible to fail with cu 999,it is guaranteed old school variety,Murano with low male flowers and lack of pollinating insects in January harmattan will not be funny, bending Yash cucumbers will plenty for that farm.

I tried it in 2018 December, boss, I became lean and muscular...
I'll never advise anyone to do dry season farming without drip and fertigator.

I don't even answer people who want to use bucket and plate to irrigate. I don't like nor encourage people to suffer

the guy did that as a last desperate measure to pull himself up,now he has two full time workers he pays salary at the end of the month,a house and other goodies in life,if he was sitting down and waiting for pallatives he will still be waiting up till now,a man that is down on the floor doesn't have anywhere again to fall down to,but he has one way to go and that is up,if he has the mental strength and courage.

finding that Murano satchet will be difficult, even the tin type is now mostly out of stock, staking net should be around #4-5k per roll,at abeokuta or ijebu ode.

the land you are referring to is our own farm in the southeast not Southwest, the land has been disvirgined since time I'm memorial,we just levelled the old cassava mounds, set up the drip and dug holes for manure at intervals were the water is dropping, looking for a virgin land in the southeast is like looking for a virgin in the maternity ward, you can only see such things mostly in the west, north,Midwest and parts of cross river.

Lol @looking for a virgin in the maternity ward. Well, you might see Virgin Mary and Jesus in the uterus grin
