Nigeria is a developing nation like 80% of nations on earth.

Get that simple fact into your thick skull.

It is nothing to be ashamed about, or to run down the nation online about.

We have some GOOD universities for a developing nation.

What do you mean ''do you even have a stadium''? Err yes we have loads of stadiums in Nigeria.

And you are LYING when you say we have ''no electricity''.

Having power cuts does not mean you have ''no electricity''.

SO STOP LYING.

Most developing nations experience regular power cuts, especially larger nations like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia etc.

It takes DECADES to build power infrastructure sufficient for 100s of millions of people.

The day you people rid yourselves of inferiority complex will be a great day in heaven.

being a developing nation does not stop you from getting things right Malaysia is a developing nation, same with south Africa even China is not yet classified as a developed nation but the difference between this nations and Nigeria is hugh

@ emboldened Population and Financial strength of a Nation (Nation's wealth) determines economic development in a third world country.

Do not make the mistake of comparing Nigeria with countries that have spent centuries improving the productivity of its nation.

And I don't necessarily know where I suggested that Land area have anything to do with development.

I wish we could be on a better platform to discuss this. Preferably face to face. There is nothing like countries spending centuries developing themselves. I know you will interject that and start pointing me to America and Britain. But like I said here is not a good place. And I don't have the time to even scratch the surface of this. I can give you at least 20 statistics off hand in consonance with this.

I have this argument pertaining to Lagos and Nigeria as a whole everyday with friends. The only reason anyone would be impressed with places like Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki is if they're coming from worse off places and haven't seen better. For thoe of us that have seen better, most places in Nigeria can best be described as GARBAGE especially where the so called affluent people live but i won't call it a slum r ghetto like some people have but it nowhere in comparison to where even the middle class live in other well off countries. Ikoyi is probably the best we have to offer in Lagos but it is what it is, just average. It is also a crime to compare LAGOS to anywhere else in Nigeria except maybe Abuja. So, i don't understand how someone would try to score cheap points by comparing lagos with other mushroom cities we have. Lagos should be comparing itself if not with the best in the world, atleast other major cities in developing countries.

I was shocked when I saw headline and I had to check it out to know if it was indeed true. Alas, it's not. The paltry 26m figure is for three years 2016-18. Nigeria actually produces enough toothpicks. It's our elites and their perchance for anything foreign that import their own toothpicks. Even toothbrushes, are manufactured here not to mention lowly toothpicks.

There are actually very few tooth picks factories in Nigeria and they often struggle to manufacture at the price of the imported tooth picks.

Why should Lagos be the best city in Nigeria

Lagos has ceased to be the federal capital territory since 30 years ago.

What is up with your cities in the East?.

This was at the height of the recession when lies were being peddled left and centre to cover for glaring incompetence.

These overpriced eyesores are a sad and ever-present reminder of Nigeria's iron-clad matrimony with corruption. Ninety-nine percent of these supposedly high value real estate were/are purchased/built with black money....Political/business corruption, drug dealing, grand fraud, and everything in between. That explains the head turning prices you would hear for properties in these awfully overrated locations.

It's not real market forces at play, so you might see crooks like the Elephant of Bourdillon and his many thieving minions building hundreds of "luxury" apartments in these areas with less than 10% occupancy. And they wouldn't flinch because they aren't depending on or even looking forward to rental income to recoup their 'investment'.

You understand the true picture. Genuine premium real estate won't have the low occupancy experienced with Nigeria's real estate. Many of them are money laundering conduits, hence their disproportionate costing.

Why should Lagos be the best state in Nigeria?

Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa ibom all collect more federal allocation than Lagos with much smaller populations to cater for

Abuja have also been the capital of Nigeria for the best part of 30 years and experience two oil booms first in 1991 and 2008.

The moment you start saying what is truly on your mind rather than hide under weight of hypocrisy, Nigeria would be a better country for it.

Seems to me you are living the past ,Are you collecting data from 90s?

I lived in Gurgaon for a year and i can hardly remember a power cut, Over there it depends upon the Regional level governance system that how much Electricity they want to buy from their Grid.

India was power surplus country till December 2019 and this year it is predicted of deficit of 0.5% in peak times.
And when their remaining 4 Nuclear statiosn will go critical in March , they will again get Power Surplus status.

Dont try defend Failure of Buhari
and others.

Ask anybody majority of houses majority of houses in ikoyi re own by yoruba politicians, businessmen, real estate developers.
Tinubu owns the 3 biggest and most expensive houses alone in that bourdilon road followed by Mike adenuga , Aregbeshola, late gov ajumobi, obasanjo, osibanjo, saraki, deizani, muazu.

You're talking about "pencil and toothpick" factory not toothpick only.
Here's an excerpt from the link:

Finally, Bassey confirmed AKEES is indeed the first operational pencil production factory in Nigeria.

“There are toothpick factories scattered all over Nigeria. For pencils, this is the first functional one that also makes toothpicks. I know one factory that was set up but never ran for a single day” he said.

mansions in parkviewcheesy what street in parkviewcheesy cos there is no mansion in parkview it is just an housing estate that have regular houses in fact majority of their rooms re not up to standard, they have bad water, and part of the estate is always flooded during rainy season majority of the Big men have left the estate. It is now left to average rich people.
Have u seen subomi (fcmb owner ) house in ikoyi that is the example of house that can be qualified as mansion not regular houses in parkview estate.
Banana island is dominated by Yoruba's , fashola, Tinubu, mike adenuga, otedola e.t.c

For your information hausa-fulanis have more properties in ikoyi than igbos.
One thing about ikoyi is 80% of houses here re owned by politicians. Majority of northern govs from 1999 to 2015 owns house in ikoyi.
That house in Osborn that 300million dollars was found in a flat is owned by former bauchi state gov adamu muazu.
Is there any popular Yoruba politician or ex gov in southwest that doesnt own house in ikoyi, vi lekki? I dont think they exist. Even ambode that did only one term have more than 2 houses in ikoyicheesy
Ikoyi was shared between Yorubas and northern Elites.thats why you see any northern elite that complete his tenure or retire from politics always end up in lagos ikoyi to be precise.
Even sanusi past emir of kano have retired to his ikoyi house
